Next week on Confidential they will show the one defining moment that lead to the dimise of WCW. Which moment do you think they will show. I would pick the Nash/Hogan title match in Dec. 99, but what will THEY show?
"We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell them stories that don't go anywhere. Like that time I took the ferry over to Shelbyville; I needed a new heel for my shoe. So, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickle, and in those days, nickles had pictures of bumblebees on them. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have any white onions, because of the war; the only thing you can get was those big yellow ones..." -Abe Simpson

Just a guess, but I'm thinking they'll show the night Mick Foley won the WWF Title, and Tony Schivone let the WWC viewers know about it in advance so that they could all tune in to watch.
If it were up to me, I'd go with the first on-camera appearance of Vince Russo, but somehow I doubt they'll think of that one....
Can't be giving away Foley's title win. They've already shown that on Heat (and, I assume, on Confidential) as an example of how -- say it with me -- RUTHLESS and AGGRESSIVE Uncle Eric supposedly is.
I think you guys are ALL way off here. Remember, Vince McMahon gets to pick the "defining moment", this isn't a history test with a real life right answer. His ego won't allow him to choose (and brainwash the marks) something that wasn't his idea, like DX 'invading' or Mike Tyson joining.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they say the defining moment was Vince debuting his family to main event storylines.

From what I remember, WCW had split the nWo into two factions, the Red & Black Wolfpac, led by Kevin Nash, and the White and Black nWo Hollywood, led by Hollywood Hogan. I don't remember how it happened, but the two leaders finally clashed on some PPV, and a world title match (Nash was the champion) was scheduled for Nitro the following evening. Hogan and Nash did a great build for the match, and everyone assumed we were going to finally see the nWo-Split storyline come to a climax.
What happened instead : Nash and Hogan got in the ring for the World Title match, circled the ring a few times. Hogan got up in Nash's face, they exchanged a few words... then Hogan poked Nash in the chest, and Nash fell over. Hogan covered him with his foot - 1, 2, 3. New Champ = Hogan. Nash got up, hugged Hogan, and the next version of the nWo was formed by merging the best of the two factions.
That sound about right?

Nash beat Goldberg at Starrcade via Scott Hall's supposedly unwanted interference. Nash promised Goldberg a rematch on the Nitro eight days after Starrcade.
But nWo black-and-white member Elizabeth accused Goldberg of stalking her, and he was placed under arrest. Kevin Nash was highly pissed, and blamed Hogan for what happened. Nash said he would whoop Hogan that night and then beat Goldberg.
It turned out, the charges were false. But Goldberg wasn't able to get into the ring until the title changed hands via the finger poke of doom.
What happened was this-- Hollywood Hogan came out with Scott Steiner, the leader of the nWo black-and-white and the World Television Champion. World Champ Kevin Nash came out next, accompanied by Scott Hall who wore a Wolfpac T-shirt. A big pop for the reunified face Outsiders.
Hogan and Nash looked like they were about to go at it, but instead Hogan delivered a calculated finger poke to Nash's shoulder, knocking him unconscious immediately. [/tongue in cheek] Hogan pinned Nash to win the title.
Goldberg rushed the ring and cleared out the nWo members. Luger entered the ring and told Goldberg to go ahead and raise Hogan up in the Jackhammer. When Goldberg went to do so, Luger attacked him, and an nWo beatdown ensued.
The nWo had been re-unified. Hollywood Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and Lex Luger (and later Buff Bagwell) formed the black-and-red “elite” nWo team, while the other former members of the black-and-white formed the black-and-white.
Sting had not been seen since he was taken out by Bret Hart at Halloween Havoc, and by the time he returned the nWo was already done for. Randy Savage had been on hiatus even longer. Konnan was unceremoniously kicked out of the group when he tried to defend Rey Mysterio Jr. against the nWo.
Curt Hennig was booted out of the black-and-white in short order.

Did they mention it would be a WCW moment? Bischoff sitting in the ring on his bike saying he beat Vince 80+ weeks in a row would be a good one.. As I recall shortly after the streak ended?
Anyways, it might be a WWF moment..I'd pick errrr..some Rock-Austin or Rock-HHH moment.

Nope: The single most defining WCW moment that lead to their demise?
Monday Nitro: July 6, 1998, live from the Georgia Dome. The WCW had red-hot uberface Goldberg in the midst of an impossibly hot winning streak, 106-0 at the time of the broadcast. And the WCW also had nWo leader Hollywood Hulk Hogan as their incalculably over heel World Champion. Their paths were undoubtedly set on colliding at the next WCW pay-per-view. It was a guaranteed big money match. Hell, I'd even order that show!
The stage was set. It was a no-brainer.
So what did they do? Eric Bischoff desperately wanted to beat WWF in the ratings, so they gave away the biggest match in WCW history (to that time) on FREE TELEVISION. WITH NO BUILDUP. AT ALL.
To quoth CRZ: -------- (bill "107-0") GOLDBERG v. YOU KNOW WHO for the WCW World Heavyweight Title - Heenan knocks me out when, discussing Goldberg's record, he says "and they weren't all ham'n'eggers!" Well, what the hell WERE they, then? We follow Goldberg from his long walk from the back, through the curtains - ewww, he did an OKIE BLOW! They have the whole pyro thing set up a second time. Michael Buffer must have had the week off. Let's take an ad break after Goldberg hits the ring (entrance 3:50)
I'm convinced WCW can only afford to play Voodoo Chile once a night, because Hogan comes out to the NWO theme music. "I am gonna kick Goldberg's ... BUTT!" Get down, Hogan, we all know REAL men say "ass." Hogan is out alone, at least, now he is. Hogan's entrance "only" takes two minutes. Now we're at ten to the hour. "Goldberg" chant, real or otherwise, fires up. Lockup, Goldberg with a headlock. Hogan: "No, nonononono..." Goldberg continues to ratchet it in. Hogan with some kidney punches, Hogan tries to power out but meets a shoulderblock. Hogan backs into the corner. Standing up, lockup - Hogan with a side headlock, Goldberg picks up Hogan, and has to put him down. To the corner, clean break. Goldberg is to his eyes. Test of strength, wow! Goldberg wins it and Hogan's on his knees. But he manages to get one foot over the bottom rope to break the knucklelock. Lockup - no, Hogan with a boot, punch to the head, another, another, face rake, rake of the back. Hogan removes his belt and whips Goldberg with it. Goldberg grabs the belt when Hogan poses and - throws it out of the ring. Oh, come on, Bill. Whip him ONCE before you toss it! Lockup, Hogan with a headlock, a chain of wrestling holds? Goldberg reverses to a full nelson - Hogan wisely kicks backward into the lower abdominal region. Uppercut by Hogan, another right. Whip and a lariat by Hogan - Goldberg goes down - Hogan covers, no it's a choke. Hogan with a bodyslam, but he misses an elbow drop. Another attempt, another miss. Goldberg with a pansy lariat but Hogan rolls out to the floor. Hogan walks around the ring, finds his belt, and puts it back on. Now Hogan climbs the steps and walks through the ropes. "Hogan sucks" chant fires up (not canned). Lockup, to the tcorner. Clean break? No, Hogan with repeated knees to the gut. Hogan throws Goldberg through the ropes. And now his head meets the barricade. Hogan's got a chair and isn't afraid to use it. Three chair shots. Goldberg is rolled back in, and Hogan follows. Another bodyslam. LEG DROP OF DOOM! A second one! CURT HENNIG is walking out? KARL MALONE and DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE are behind? Hey, let's watch the damn match, shall we? 1, 2, Goldberg kicks out! Malone has caught up to Hennig, and gives him a Diamond Cutter! Meanwhile, Goldberg is spearing Hogan! Everyone is standing! If something's gonna happen, it'll happen now. Goldberg picks up Hogan for the jackhammer, and hits it! As Schiavone says "Aw hell yeah!" (what the...?) Referee "Blind" Charles Robinson - makes the count...1, 2, 3!!! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. (8:11)
I think Mike Tenay did a good job of capturing the moment when he said, "Thirty-one year old Bill Goldberg, less than ten months in the sport, is on top of the wrestling world."
But what can they possibly do for an encore? ------
Exactly. That simple lack of vision, that short-sightedness led to the demise of the company. Good riddance.

the day they fired ALL the women. only the CW div was keeping any interest in WCW for me by then, and at that point it was a shadow of it's former self.
"My parents said I could be anything, so I became an ASSHOLE!"
I agree, the finger poke is the one thing that killed the company.
Think about it like this, Nash finally beat Goldberg, Goldberg finally had been defeated. You would think Nash would relish the belt like it was some life-giving force. But instead he hands it over to Hogan. Showing that the strap meant nothing to him, showing that defeating Goldberg meant nothing.
From then on, the fans didn't care either. That is my choice. But VKM will probably pick Hogan/Sting because Bret Hart was involved. You can't miss a chance to stick to Bret one more time.
January 4th 1999 - The day WCW injected itself with 10 gallons of Liquid Anthrax...AKA...The day Hogan "Defeated" Nash to win the WCW title in front of 40,000.
What was so bad about Hogan/Sting. I didn't watch WCW at that time and was curious...
An open letter to Andrew Gilkison from me: Sir, I am no longer pleased with your product and thus will not read it. I am the consumer and your product is not living up to my expectations. I could open up an Andrew Gilkison message board and cry about it, but that's a waste of my time. In the meantime, I would suggest you work on improving your product. Thank you.
Watching RAW and Smackdown doesn't cost anymore than your posts do. And so, like a good consumer, I'm tuning you out.
