It sounds like a bad idea on paper, but it's reusing the best damn wrestling game engine in the history of the planet, and it's so over-the-top that it's hilarious.
My only complaint is that Flava Flav's not in it.
"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?" -----Phillip J. Fry, Futurama
All the kids are gonna love this game. I love this game. My friend and I had to call 6 Blockbusters trying to find one that had a copy. This has franchise written all over it. Don't be suprised either if Raw suddenly adapts a new hip-hop theme next Monday. Personally, I want to see if they make Death Row Vendetta, where you fight Suge Knight at the end.
Some may think HHH is pale imitation of Ric Flair in his heyday. They're wrong, though. After all, HHH is orange.

"Backyard Wrestling" from Eidos will be out later this year. Happy to be of service. And it is applauded because it's a DAMN GOOD GAME. Just because you don't like the rap aspect of it doesn't mean it's not fun, and if you're discriminating against it because of the urban influence, well then it's your loss.
The game is fun, not all because of the great gameplay, but the entertaining storylines as well. I like some rap and all but this game would be great with any sort of theme attached to it. It's all just wrapping around a really fun wrestling game.
There are flaws, of course. It feels like I'm playing the next generation WCW vs. nWo World Tour, and when Def Jam REVENGE comes out it's going to be leaps and bounds ahead of Vendetta. But it's fun to play and the graphics are top-notch and the sounds are sweet.
Give it a try before you dump on it. If you were a fan of the 4 AKI Nintendo 64 wrestling games then you'll definitely like this.

The rap culture is the most laughable thing on this planet. That's why Cena is so entertaining, his character is so absurd that it's funny.
Damn. Did your girlfriend leave you for a homeboy? Were you frightened by an MC Hammer commercial as a child? Did you pay to see "Cool As Ice" in the theater? Did somebody tell you HHH was involved in the game somehow? There's got to be a reason for this level of bitterness...

It's a good game plays well and looks good. Yea I understand there rappers and , but what it's better the Lengends of wrestling and hell alot funner the SDSYM was. I mena I love to make my wreslters and I love to beat the hell out of Rock,HHH,and anyone else.
Then neither of you have seen Arii's back special. He pushes you down, then he laces your arms through your legs. In one motion, he flips you backwards onto your face. If you've seen it, you know why I'm shuddering as I'm typing this.
Okay, now I think I might have to drop the cash for this. My only exposure to the game so far has been the demo from PS magazine. The one move I wanted to see was Nyne's Cali Backflip pedigree thing...and he doesn't have it in the demo!! Crap! Hopefully I can find it used.
By the way, that demo is really annoying. You have to sit through the intro movie every time and you only get a four minute match before the whole thing resets again.
I'm not a big fan of the AKI engine (flame-retardant suit ON!), but I think that's mostly because I never had an N64 and have very little exposure to WM2000/No Mercy.
EDIT: Also, I noticed when Nyne does the Twist of Fate, he does Matt's arm motion before the move. Is this a recycled animation from previous AKI games?
Don't sweat don't being a fan of the engine, there are several out there and none are perfect. AKI is a very good all-around one. I imagine alot of people might be turned off by the FirePro engine, but that's more on the "sim" side of things to me. I love the Giant Gram 2K engine for an arcade style match, but you can't model characters there.
When DJV2 comes out and (I hope) we get the CAW, then we go to school!
As far as finishers go, I haven't seen nearly all of them, but I really like Briggs' rear Blazing (the Steiner Screwdriver variant), and Redman's front Blazing "Balls to the Wall" makes me cringe and my eyes water every time I've used it. Moses's front Blazing where he gives you essentially how I would envision RVD would sell a Razor's Edge (land on the back of his neck and the rest of his body stands straight up), followed by a clubbing shot to the groin is kind of nasty too.
Edit: Regarding the ToF animation, yeah, there are several reused ones that are exactly as before. Briggs lv 3 moves includes unchanged versions of the X-Factor, Rock Bottom (with the looking from side-to-side) and the Pedigree.
