This may be a really obvious post, but what the hell are WWE thinking? We've just come off two wrestling pay-per- views in a row (Genesis and Survivor Series), and now they are putting on a third one, from their "C" show, and charging 40 bucks for it. Hell, they haven't even announced matches for it yet besides the main event. And I'm sure that, after no one buys it, it will be seen as evidence of why the new ECW is a failed experiment.

Guess in a way this is just a bitching post, but maybe someone can help me out if they see some shred of logic in all of this?

I've wondered the same myself, but didn't know how much they were planning on charging for it.

Hell, with the roster they have, all of their top guys are already in the Chamber, or the main feuds are split up by the Chamber (Knox & Punk, Holly & RVD). The Hardyz reunion tour is supposed to make another stop at the PPV, according to last night on Raw.

I love the Chamber, but am disappointed for a different reason, that it most likely eliminates the chance New Years Revolution uses it again as the main event.

Could someone explain what other feuds are going on in ECW right now? I don't watch the show, but from what I can gather, the current feuds all involve the Chamber match, as stated above. Is Sandman still around? I haven't read anything about guys like Dupree, Balls, or Shannon Moore in a long time. Dupree had a great look two months ago when I came across ECW while channel-surfing.

All viewers I read comments from seem to suggest that Lashley is being positioned to take the title this weekend and that Show is in bad physical shape. What happened to the idea of putting the title back on RVD? Is it still too soon from his drug arrest? So long as Holly and Knox don't win, I'm fine with Punk or RVD as champ. I'd probably watch if Punk was the champion. He's got the level of interest from fans right now that RVD did after first entering WWE.

This is kind of what kills me about the booking of ECW; they actually had a few decent feuds going a couple months ago, and now that they've all been blown off or abandoned, they have a PPV. Sandman was feuding with Matt Striker, but the blowoff to that was a random tag match if i recall; Balls was feuding with Kevin Thorn, but that kind of got abandoned after Thorn was beaten by Tommy Dreamer. Speaking of Dreamer, he was having a feud with Test, but I feel like that just kind of randomly fizzled out. As Packman mentioned, RVD/Holly and Punk/Knox, and I could add Sabu/Big Show to that, are all current feuds that are mixed up in the Chamber clusterfuck.

As far as I know, the only match announced besides the Chamber is Hardys vs MNM, none of whom are ECW wrestlers. Could WWE go that route, maybe, to flesh out the PPV (bring in non-ECW wrestlers)? From reading ECW show recaps, it just doesn't look like the undercard feuds are there to build a PPV around - not in the least. I think we may see a bunch of Raw and SmackDown guys get booked into some other matches for the PPV, because Dreamer vs Striker and Sandman vs Dupree isn't going to cut it.

Who do we think is going to win this?

I'm thinking that it's going to be between Sabu and RVD. I think that Show is going to drop it and disappear off ECW. Most would like to see Punk win it but I think the WWE will hold off putting the belt on him for some time (maybe the next ECW PPV/'Mania?)...

I'll agree that Show loses, but the way they had Sabu job to Umaga two weeks ago on RAW, I don't see him winning the title. I think Punk has a better chance than Sabu.

Before Survivor Series I would've said Lashley in a heartbeat, but right now I think it's a toss-up between Lashley and Punk. If they want to change it up a bit and get good matches on top leading into 'Mania then it'll be Punk or RVD, but then I doubt good matches are high on their priority list seeing as they kept the belt on Show for four months.

RVD, who moves to a feud with a newly heel Sabu. Show and Lashley have their feud, leaving Punk to work against Test.

Agreed. I kept thinking they'd only charge like $25 or something, and I might even be tempted to get it. But not at $40, and because of all the reasons you mentioned.

But as I was typing this out, it occured to me that just because this is their "C" show and they're not doing very much to make me wanna buy it, doesnt make thier PPV costs any lower. Maybe they could afford to put one on for $30 or so, but that probably isnt low enough for me either.

5 consecutive weeks of wrestling PPV's. Has this ever happened before?

This is a one match show. But you know, this is not the first time the WWE has done a one match PPV while building or basically booking virtually nothing else for the show.

Still they screwed themselves in the ass big time here, considering the last 2 ECW PPV's were nice draws and they sacrificed all the promotion of D2D in favor of Survivor Series. And let's face it, there was nothing on Survivor Series worth $40.

Yes. Believe it or not, at one time there were more than two wrestling companies!

Par exemplar:

11/19/2K WWF Survivor Series
11/26 WCW Mayhem
12/03 ECW Massacre on 34th Street
12/10 WWF Armageddon
12/17 WCW Starrcade

It's prolly just that fact why the WWE believes that the wrestling market can support 3 brands and a fuckton of PPVS.

There's a news tidbit floating around some messageboards that in this week's Observer Dave lays out the proposed D2D card, and it's basically five or six Raw/SmackDown Vs. ECW challenge matches, an "Extreme Battle Royale", and the two bouts already booked.

Hey, TNA is at least doing their best to hype up the PPV...

You know Vince a funny thing happened on Monday afternoon on your website when we were watching your little online press conference, BG James said. When the Hardys made the open challenge, I couldnt help but hear the fans chanting VKM. Some other tag team may have accepted it, but its still an open challenge and the Voodoo Kin Mafia want in the match so lets make it a three-way. You have until this Thursday night before iMPACT! goes on the air to give us an answer.

http://www.tnawrestling.com/news/fullnews2.php?all=1032

Y'know, at least Uncle Eric challenged the McMahon to show up at a WCW PPV. It seems counter-intuitive to promote the other guy's company. It'd be like Kurt Angle announcing he's going to WrestleMania to tap out HHH.

Yeah, but what has WCW got to do with this? They're not around anymore. The two companies are WWE and TNA and WWE DID do the same thing with DX invading WCW so I don't see what your point is.

DX never did something as lame as this. "The fans were chanting VKM"? Come on.

And even if DX did do something like this, it's not a comparable situation. WCW and WWF were neck-and-neck in April of 1998, battling for every ratings. WWF versus WCW antagonism was a natural thing. Right now TNA exist below the WWE radar, and they'd do well to stay there whilst they sort out their own problems before they start picking a fight with a company with ten times the resources and twenty times the exposure.

That, and that the open challenge thing just makes no sense. It's already been accepted, the match is booked. And if BG and Kip are talking a shootfight, then they have to be dumber than box of rocks to want to walk into the opposition's arena and fight four against two. The whole thing is just dumb.

They share the same bad promotional habits. Why promote the other guy's PPV? It'd be better off if the James Gang invited the Hardy Boys to show up on Impact. At least that might get viewers.

And to this day, people miss the whole thing about DX "invading" and really that whole time period. DX did the skits after WM 14, when the WWF was well on it's way to turning around its business. DX was hot. The company was hot. WCW was beginning to unravel a bit creatively after a perfect '97. Sean Walman is fired from WCW (and more importantly, the NWO in storyline), comes to WWF, cuts a shoot promo talking about how Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were miserable in WCW and would be right there with him. In fact, right from CRZ's recap:

"And I got something else to say - Kevin Nash and Scott Hall would be standing right here with us....if they weren't bein' held hostage by World Championship Wrestling AND THAT'S A FACT ERIC BISCHOFF so put that in your pipe and smoke it!"

And that was the predicate for the "invasion" skits. The idea of "free our people." This worked on so many levels. It was edgy because it hadn't been done before, it was inside enough b/c "we" knew about the clique and it appealed to the casual base because Hall and Nash were probably still among the cooler wrestlers in the world at that point.

The James Gang thing isn't even copying the premise behind those skits. There is no premise!

Whatever people thought of those DX skits there was a point behind them. It played off real stuff.
