it seems like there were a lot of celebrity deaths in 2016, from Pat Harrington back in January to Zsa Zsa Gabor the other day, with lots of bigger and smaller celebrities in between, as well as friends, relatives and even enemies.
I wonder IF it is a big year, death wise, other than as we noticed it? I know that the baby boom generation, which started in 1946, is now 70. I am one of those boomers, as is Dr Dirt. That old man is 60 and I will be next year. I wonder if what we are seeing is the usual deaths of younger folks (due to accidents like Anton Yelchin), but also a lot of people over 60. Boomers. My Generation, as I think the Who put it.
I think we're sadly going to see a lot more of that in the coming years.

I mean, I am sure some people mean a whole lot more to one person than another.
But look at these people: Elton John 69 Mick Jagger & Keith Richards 73 Paul McCartney 74 Ringo Starr 76 all the living beach boys - mid 70s Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon and Dylan are mid 70s Frankie Valli is in his 80s and so is Little Richard Chuck Berry is 90
plus there are plenty of old and well known actors Doris Day, for example is 92 Jerry Lewis is 90 Sidney Poitier is 89
Just to name a few. if we pick working actors Robert Wagner is 86 George Takei is 79 Bill Shatner is 85 Harrison Ford is 74
statistically, we may see a one two punch every year or two. it might not be as big for you, but say Ringo & Jerry Lewis would be huge losses for me

And, really, Muhammad Ali was a more famous and iconic figure than either. His death didn't hit as hard because his career was clearly over, and he had been visibly very ill for a long time, so there wasn't the shock factor. But a quick look at the lists of notable deaths for the preceding couple of years doesn't compare in terms of the biggest names.
But, StaggerLee, don't invoke. AWA points out some big names, and I could mention others but I don't want to tempt fate.
I feel it's not gonna get better as so many 50/6's legends are getting up there in age. But it's people like Prince, Michael or even Rickman who are younger that threw ne off. Ugh..
You're right - but we always get a young and famous one most years. No doubt Prince hit a lot of people. To me he wasn't really anything to speak of. Scott weiland last year was a different story for me. I didn't miss the STPs at any time.
Statistically those will happen - sometimes, maybe usually - they are due to lifestyle choices.
Rickman was 69. Statistically close to life expectancy - and he had already had Heath issues.
You are right it's good inv to get worse.
