| #2 Posted on 17.2.05 2200.06 | Instant Rating: 7.31 | Cartoon Brew has an awesome commentary up today about why animation buffs should show apathy towards this rather than outrage. Their argument basically boils down to, "WB has bastardized the Jones/Clampett/Freling/Avery/McKimson characters so much that this can't do anymore damage, and everytime we show that we care WB gets the idea that these characters matter, so its worth doing something with them...which inevitably sucks hardcore."
Originally posted by Cartoon Brew To display anger over LOONATICS means that Warner Bros. has won yet again. The executives love hearing affirmation that people still care about these characters; when somebody likes the cartoons enough to voice concern, they know their job is safe. It's not like they've created any cartoon characters of their own that audiences actually give a [fark] about. These classic characters are their lifeline to a weekly paycheck. So let me be the first to say to Warner Bros.: take Bugs and [fark] him however many ways you want - make him anime, give him pants and a spongy complexion, pair him up with Snoop Dogg and produce a Broadway rap-musical...I just don't care.
It's about time that we set aside our misguided reverence for Bugs Bunny and redirected that into respect for today's artists and the enormous potential that they hold.
It's a great point: these characters have nothing left to offer us, and their presence perhaps denies us new classic characters.

But yeah, Kids WB has been lacking lately. It seems like all they show are either dumb Japanese anime-type cartoons or superhero shows.

Or does it?
Nothing WB does today will affect the greatness of the original Merry Melodies and Looney Tunes cartoons. Let them produce another shitty series. Do the great minds who brought us "Sister, Sister" really think they would know what to do with a character as enigmatic and subtly subvervise as Bugs Bunny? Or with a character as tragically flawed as Daffy Duck? Maybe they do, but they're likely wrong. No one will watch it. They'll get the message...eventually.
If WB wants to do something worthwhile with these characters, they should edit the originals back into their original formats, the way there were meant to be seen in the first place, without omitted scenes, and run them at night so no one who's been in the habit of writing letters to the FCC will be offended by anything clever.

I think it's important to keep in mind that this cracked-out cartoon isn't supposed to replace the Looney Tunes characters so much as present an alternate version of them. (Not even them, really--the cartoon seems to be about their descendants.) So just as Cartoon Network's Baby Looney Tunes didn't irrevocably transform Bugs Bunny into a toddler, Loonatics won't permanently turn Bugs into something out of an unusually psychadelic episode of Samurai Jack. | The Goon

Amen, fellow cheesehead. Spielberg was about the only thing good about Warner Bros. animation in the 1990s. Right now, all that Kids WB has going for it, IMHO, is !Mucha Lucha! (Warner Bros.)
