Granted, NBC is picking and choosing its battles with this (i.e. first-runs vs. reruns), but if it can hold its own against other popular first-run 8 p.m. shows, *maybe* NBC has a good drain stopper for ratings for the time being.

Am I confident about it? Yes. The format is simple, there's no conflict between people involved (you're reaching if you say the "Banker" is a person) and Howie Mandel will hit his stride at the next tapings... PLUS, there's episodic drama with this show (compared to Weakest Link, which was a one-play per episode, and twenty/one, which, well, sucked), which I think helps a game show.

As well, getting calls for when the show is going to be back on doesn't hurt, either.

Here's hoping it works, since even if it stays at its current levels, it will open the door for the genre again hopefully.

"Howie Mandel will hit his stride at the next tapings..."

I'm sensing a major flaw in that premise.

NBC has to be careful not to fall into the trap ABC went into with Millionaire, as they took a sweeps ratings bonanza and drove it right into the ground by overexposing it.

Any complaints about the preceding post can be directed at the time traveling aliens who edited it.

I like "Deal," but I wonder how many people will stick with it, considering it takes no real talent to play the game. I mean, it's just a game of chance. It should be interesting to see if the numbers wane.

The one thing that struck me most about Deal was how absolutely, unbearably horrible the editing was. Every episode had at least four obvious overdubs, and these were caught not just by me (broadcasting major with experience listening to Michael Cole) but by my mother (50-something with one half of one good ear).

This will get added at the end of each post you make, below an horizontal line. This should preferably be kept to a small enough size.

Most of them were things explaining concepts of the game, though, so maybe those will go away in the future.

Seeing where they had to ADR (read: edit) a ton of stuff in as Gugs pointed correctly out, and seeing how nervous he was in the first episode plus hearing from audience warm-up and announcer Randy West on another BBS how much was edited out from what Howie did, I think he will hit his stride.

I'm curious to hear your "flaw."

And by the way, if you're going to have a premise that involves one-sided phone calls, would invoking just a little of the spirit of Bob Newhart be a bad thing?

I enjoyed the movie until we met Sarah Silverman's character. I found her bratty and unsympathetic. Also- product placement. I found it so jarring to see a Subway cup in a Disney animated movie.
