Who is getting or watching the fight? This is the first one in a while that I will be going out of my way to order and pay for by myself even though I'll be watching it at home instead of with a bunch of people. Watching 24/7 makes me giddy with anticipation, and Oscar really looks like he has an eye of the tiger thing going, so I keep increasing in my mind the chances that he could actually pull off the win over Floyd.
Holy fuck shit motherfucker shit. Read comics. Fuck shit shit fuck shit I sold out when I did my job. Fuck fuck fuck shit fuck. Sorry had to do it....

I should've elaborated. By "increasing" I meant from like one-in-a billion to closer to one-in-a thousand. Or, how about "just enough to change my mind from 'foregone conclusion'" to "worth hoping for"?
Have you watched the 24/7 show? I get the same feeling watching it I got from watching the Gabriel Gonzaga interviews and pre-fight features before he fought Cro Cop, in that if Oscar is just going out there to be served up to make Floyd look good, I don't think anyone told HIM that.
Also, Oscar's trainer rolling in on the Segway was pretty damn funny.

I haven't seen all of 24/7 unfortunatly. Need to go back and see it all before the fight.
I know Floyd is a jerk so it's easy for people to dislike him, but personally I could care less when it comes to boxers. For some reason in this sport only I'm willing to totally overlook what a guy is like outside the ring if he's good enough in it. And Floyd is that damn good. Way more talented than Oscar.
That's not to say this is a slam dunk because you never know when a boxer might start buying their own b.s. and not show up ready to fight. But I don't see that happening here.
Though I've never been a huge Oscar fan. I think he's been overrated and was appalled at the ESPN article this week calling him the best of this generation. I think my dislike of him goes back to how much I was in awe of Pernell Whitaker back when they fought. That cat was the fastest damn boxer I've ever seen in my life. It was freakish. He beat Oscar in my view and I've kinda held it against Oscar that he won on the scorecards I guess.
Normally I would say this is a slam dunk, especially after watching Oscar morph into Rocky Balboa from the third movie right before Clubber Lang kills him.
But I worry about just how much of a distraction the Mayweather family is going to become for Floyd Jr. Floyd is a better boxer than Oscar. But with the move in weight and the fact that DLH is still a damn good boxer, if Floyd comes in just a little underprepared or distracted by this circus around him, it could open the window for Oscar.

Pernell Whitaker was one of the fighters that got me interested in boxing. By the time he fought Oscar, however, I felt he'd lost a step and was probably already into the coke. While he frustrated Oscar's offense in that fight, I agreed with the judges that he didn't mount enough of his own offense to hold on to his title. Pernell was a beautiful fighter to watch from a pure boxing standpoint; he was textbook in every way and faster than snot.
I don't much like Mayweather or de la Hoya, but I expect a great fight out of them. I don't think Mayweather can knock Oscar out, but I also don't expect Oscar can outpoint Mayweather. I just hope it's as entertaining a fight as everyone's hoping for; it may well be, as Bill Simmons contends, the last Great Fight for boxing as we know it today.

Boy, that's an expensive proposition! Solo PPV buy!
CRZ had to edit my profile and close my table for me. I am a bad man.

Compared to a tank of gas or going to a bar and having a couple of drinks plus the cover it's actually a wash!

This fight has worked out really well for me. I could go see it on Sunday afternoon and have a few beers because we have a public holiday on Monday. I couldn't predict who will win, but I'd favour Pretty Boy. Pretty Boy Vs Golden Boy sounds more like gay porn than boxing though..........
Someone did something right. For all the talk that "Oscar ain't got a chance", the betting line is around (suspiciously and horribly) 2-1. Given the fight, boxing isn't worried to much about the betting crowd, I guess. This fight will make money and allegedly "save" boxing, but what's next? The only follow-up draw I can see is a rematch

Demonstrations are a drag. Besides, we're much too high

DING! We've got a winner. The only follow-up IS a rematch. And after Floyd shows how this isn't anywhere close to being even or competitive, there won't be any appeal in a rematch.
good fight, but not the classic they were looking for (need?). It's easy to see why people like heavyweights more - 150 pound guys stalling looks ridiculous.
De La Hoya should book all of his fights for 8 rounds. They sure seemed to try to badmouth MMA at the end, except Kellerman, who always lobbies for the next job. If this is Merchant's last big fight, good. He won't be missed by me

Agreed. I dont know how anyone would say Oscar won seven rounds. I had it even after eight rounds and 7-5 Floyd. I predicted Friday in Dan Rafael's ESPN.com chat (although it wasn't posted) 116-112, 115-113 for Floyd (which happened) and a draw on the third card, so I was prety close.
I thought it was aa really good fight, but I'd liken it to a 2-1 baseball game or 1-0 soccer or hockey game, where I can see how a casual fan would say it was kind of boring. I thought both Floyd and Oscar were exceptional defensively, and I really question the punchstat numbers that gave Floyd such a high percentage because Oscar blocked a lot of Floyd's shots.

I could have seen the fight as a draw. I thought there were four rounds clearly won by Oscar, five clearly won by Mayweather, and three that were very close. Personally I scored it 114-114.
Either way, it was just kind of there. There was never any sort of sense of urgency or danger in the fight, and it felt like a glorified sparring session at times. It was obvious early on that Mayweather couldn't hurt De La Hoya at all, and that Oscar wasn't likely going to catch Mayweather to hurt him. After that it just became a question of who could win enough rounds. When you can see a fight is headed to a decision after three rounds some of the excitement kind of gets sapped from it.
Wade, you be smoking the doob. I bet my brother $10 Mayweather would win, but he CLEARLY lost that fight. Even though I had money on Mayweather I had Oscar up by 3 rounds. 1 judge got it right. The other 2 were on crack. The only way Floyd won that fight was if you got points for taking shots on the arms. Otherwise, he didn't have anywhere near enough offense to get points in half the rounds he allegedly won.

And while this happens from time to time in MMA, this is ultimately one of the biggest reasons why boxing is dying. So many rounds and not enough exciting action spread amongst them to keep the casual fan from getting bored.
Chill, tell me you're not talking about this fight? The worst fight of the three on the PPV card was the middle one, but the first and last fights were amazing.

Hahahaha, funny joke. Seriously, no. He didn't throw a lot early, but everything he did was hitting in those early round and even later when both got defensive he was still actually landing way more than Oscar. You would be the kind of judge I hate who gives credit for throwing crappy punches that are blocked, whereas I give Mayweather credit for being deadly accurate with what he did throw and blocking everything thrown at him. This should have been unanimous for Mayweather, no question.
If you pay attention before the fight they lay out the rules for judging. These rules clearly include a defensive componant. They are supposed to give credit to someone for blocking shots, and two of them correctly did that.
BTW, can we all agree to never let anyone interview Mayweather's father again? Jesus that was painful.
