This leads me to believe that you...missed it.

Duel 1 saw Jimmie staying out on old tires after everyone else except Max Papis pitted with four laps to go, then he held on to beat Kevin Harvick (trying to copy his '07 Daytona 500 winning pass on the outside) by .006 seconds, while Michael Waltrip went from being in a transferring position to crashed out with nine laps to go.

Duel 2 saw Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the Penske Dodges doing really well, along with Montoya and Vickers, before Junior's car was damaged and he ran around the second half of the race in the back. Vickers was leading until he got wicked loose and hit the wall with five to go, then Kasey and Tony went side-by-side for a much more decisive win - Kasey won by .014 seconds. Also, Scott Speed made a four-wide pass with two laps to go (maybe going over the yellow line in the process, ahe definitely had two wheels on it) and qualified for the 500 via transferring from the Duels. That meant Michael Waltrip got to qualify for the 500 based on his qualifying time.

If the 500 is half as good as the Duels were, it's going to be a pretty great race.

No, I did not miss it. I guess I should have mentioned that Mikey Waltrip almost choked it today. You are right though, I'm ready for an awesome race Sunday now that the rules have been relaxed.

I'm really hoping that Kyle Busch finally gets it all together and makes this the start of his best season yet...I think he's going to have something to prove especially after missing the Chase last year.

What, not close enough for you?

Gilliland and Larry the Cable Guy broke my heart, but he's in the 38 starting next week, so we'll see how he and Kvapil and them Yates boys handle reuniting. I just wish they didn't ALSO have to team with Mr. Extenze.

None of this helps me pick a winner at Daytona - it probably won't be Kvapil or Richardson, but I really like Mike Bliss as well as TBR's Flickr account (flickr.com).

(But my REAL pick has to be KURT Busch.)

If Said breaks his "I'll never start and park" vow, he's dead to me.

Oh, that reminds me - congratulations to Michael McDowell and Team PRISM on making the Show in the non-Waltrip #55. I eagerly await their transmission problems on lap 8.

Poor Shelmerdine.

I am also picking Happy Harvick. He looks real strong, as do the Usual suspects. (Jimmy, Kyle, Kurt, Jeff, Mark and a few more)

Weak - the usual suspects as well. Dale Earnhardt, who I am starting in the W's Fantasy league (There's still time to join, see the other thread), will likely finish 38th, just ahead of Front Row Start and Park Joe, Boris and a couple others. McDowell, probably.

Though I don't like him at all, I am thinking that Kyle Busch is going to win it but I may flip my fantasy pick to Tony Stewart. Harvick needs a win and probably deserves a win the way he has been running the past week but I see him getting caught up in the BIG ONE that the #88 is bound to trigger on Lap 190.

I wish I was there again this year

Honestly, I can see any of 20 guys win after watching the 150s. My pick is Junior, as long as he stays away from the 83. For a dark-horse pick, I'll take Brad Keselowski. He looked good leading for a while yesterday and all of the Penske Dodges looked really good.

Shill! Shill! Just kidding. We could always use more participants! I know that Team Racer X is dying for some competitions. I just hope that my year runs as well as my NHL fantasy league is doing.

Oh, and a quick heads-up: if you picked your racers already, better double check to see that they're still in the race. I picked my two C level drivers at the very beginning, but neither qualified. Thank goodness I could switch them.

Holy shit, that Napa commerical with Martin Truex Jr. singing is just awful. Anyway, my last minute picks are Mark Martin finally breaking through to win with the Busch bros., Johnson, and Dale Jr. finishing in the top 5.

So I'm pretty sure I hadn't seen a NASCAR race since the one where Dale Earnhardt died (just a coincidence, not some protest or anything, I never watched NASCAR very much before that either). I didn't see much, but I saw everything from about 15 laps left to the end, once I realized it was somehow still on at that point.

That pass by Kevin Harvick before the final caution was impressive, I thought for sure he was going to wreck either with Biffle or whoever was behind him, I can't remember. Clint Bowyer maybe. He deserved to win after that and that caution sucked for him.

Perhaps more impressive was Junior's charge on the final lap. As he is one of three or four NASCAR guys I've even heard of, I was cheering for him to overtake McMurray. From 10th to 2nd in about half a lap is pretty good though.

This is the first time I've seen the green-white-checker rules come into play (I don't even know when that was implemented, probably years ago and I'm way behind the times) and I've got to say it's way, way better than the prospect of a race finishing on yellow. Imagine how pissed people in attendance would have been after sitting through the repeated delays because of a freaking pothole only to see the race end on caution.

The gree white checker thing has been in effect a few years - maybe 4 or 5? But this is the first time they did a green white checker, but repeated it if no one got to the white after taking the green, which is what happened when Harv took the first green, but the accordion effect of his pass crashed guys behind him. They will now do that up to three times, which might be interesting if people are low on gas.

good race, except for the pothole thing. Harv looked strong, but Jamie knows how to drive the plate, it seems. 3 of his 4 wins are in plates, and that first one was a bit of a fluke anyway. 10 years ago, another DEI (yes, I know, they are EGR now) car, Michael Waltrip, won the 500 in front of Junior.

That was a day of big ups and big downs too. 3 forever.

I have to disagree with Jimmie Johnson being one of the best this year. I don't believe the hype, and I don't think he's that good a driver. He's doing well, but I think that may change.
