From the CBS Orchestra bassist - well, who else would break this news?

We'll probably hear something from Dave on tonight's or tomorrow's show.

Hey, never to early to start handicapping "Late Show" replacements!

I predict Ferguson will be offered the job, but he will turn it down, so it'll go to...and I hate to say it...Jon Stewart.

Stewart's name has been rumoured for years, but would he really make the jump? Why would he leave the Daily Show, where he has carte blanche to do the type of show that he wants to do, and one that will allow him to (for instance) take the summer off to film a movie? If he does leave, that's a double hit for the Daily Show, since their natural replacement (John Oliver) now has his own show on HBO.

I agree that it probably won't be Ferguson...he's so perfect in his 12:30 niche that moving him up an hour could ruin his schtick. This is a big longshot, but what are the odds of CBS making a play for Conan? Or, dare I say it, Jay Leno?

I thought Ferguson already said he had no desire to move up an hour? I am sad to see Dave go, but I've missed NBC Larry "Bud" Melman/Man Under The Stairs/Dave brings flowers to GE HQ Dave.

Yes, but that doesn't mean the offer still wouldn't happen. Worldwide Pants synergy and all that. Plus, it's nice to make the offer, so why not make/keep Craig happy? He deserves it!

This would definitely be my preference (as opposed to what I think will happen).

Dark horse candidate is probably Chelsea Handler, who's winding down of HER show now seems to have interesting timing...although it would be so out of character for CBS, it almost seems impossible.

To fill that spot, you have to bring in someone established as a host, right? You can't put a new person against Jimmy Squared. The recent folks include Arsenio and George Lopez, and neither sound like a host CBS likes.

Why not try a female host at that time? Chelsea can't be the only one in the genre. Aisha Tyler has a regular talk show and a podcast and she hosts the new Whose Line and shes on Archer, and she's quick on her feet. She knows pop culture and comedy.

Agreed on Stewart. He just fits too well in his current job. Ditto for Colbert, who's also been a rumored name in the past.

Conan's probably not as outlandish a pick as you'd think. His current contract runs through November 2015, so it won't take as much in the $ department to pry him away from TBS. No way Leno happens.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

What SHOULD happen?

Tina Fey or Amy Poehler because late night has been a boys club for far too long.

What probably will happen?

CBS and ABC back the dump trucks of money up to Jimmy Kimmel's house and see who backs down first (which is unfortunate because Jimmy Kimmel is absolute rubbish).

Hire Conan's warm-up guy Jimmy Pardo for an all-Jimmy late night lineup.

Kimmel's going nowhere. ABC will have the Brinks trucks at his front door before CBS even considers it.

Conan is a great pick. But he's been good for TBS and TBS has been good to him, and he seems like a "loyalist" guy, so I dont think he'd leave them, even if CBS does have more money and exposure to offer him.

I hope it doesn't end up being Chelsey. I heard on the radio, Colbert is going to have a shot at it, but it was probably more fantasy than reality. John Stewart and even Colbert is going to be too controversial. I say they go with Conan or someone out of left field. TBS has been good to Conan, but its still TBS.

Chelsea Handler?

Chelsea Handler?

Wouldn't you want somebody, oh I don't know, slightly humorous to take the job?

Aiesha Taylor is a great pick, but she's more of a pipe dream. She is hilarious and great to hear, but lets face it, most of America probably isn't ready for a female late night host, let alone an African American Woman host.

If he didn't already have his syndicated (or is it officially on Fox) show, Arsenio would have been a great candidate. He would bring a new element to the table, people know him, he gets some great musical guests, etc.

As for Colbert and Stewart, I just don't care for either of them. Colbert especially. I just hate the gimmick.

In a perfect (and just)world, Conan gets the spot, and absolutely buries Jimmy Fallon.

He does seem like that kind of guy, but this is the one scenario I think he won't pass up. It just fits too perfectly: On broadcast TV opposite NBC and their new golden boy. Back home in NYC where he belongs. And there's not much better matches out there in terms of sense of humor than Dave and Conan. (And since Dave owns his program, it's guaranteed he's going to have a lot of input on who replaces him.) There was a reason Conan chose TBS over Fox in 2010, and I think it's because he had his eye on this opportunity even then. Jumping broadcast channels would be a hard sell... jumping from cable, MUCH less so.

Will Lee is the CBS orchestra bassist. Period.

Been watching Dave since I first saw him on the Mary Tyler Moore variety show. Watched the daytime show when he was on that, I was working a crap midnight job not long after I got out of the army. I have seen him most weeks since then. I was on viewer mail on the Late Show in the first year.

Who replaced him? I think there are some choices that would be good. I doubt Stewart or Conan. One has his audience and one is loyal, I think. Craig's not moving up, I don't believe.

Here are the people I would like to see considered:
Aziz Ansari
Jim Gaffigan
Kevin Hart

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Glad to see so many people mentioning female and/or minority candidates. Aisha Tyler is a really interesting choice--she's funny, she's pretty, she's a familiar face to a lot of people. The first name that came to my mind was Steve Harvey, just because Family Feud had its ratings go way up when he took over, but I'm not a fan of his, and he's a bit old for a job that's designed to be held for decades. I'd be much more interested in Tyler. I'd love to see Alonzo Bodden (a Last Comic Standing winner) get it, but I don't think he's well-known enough...MAYBE if Craig moves up I could see trying him at 12:30, but even then it seems like a longshot.

Two amazing choices, although Gaffigan has some "baggage" in the sense he's a practicing Catholic, so some of his beliefs probably won't go over well.

I think Conan would make sense as well, in a way he'd be following Dave's footsteps even more (NBC to CBS).

If George Stromboulopolous hadn't just taken the HNIC job, he'd be the ideal candidate (if America could take a Canadian in the role).

It'd be nice to see someone new step up in the slot.

Chelsea Handler. *snicker* If they offered her the job, Dave would either shoot her or himself. Or both.

Here's a dark horse: Tracy Morgan.

I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.
