Daniel Bryan just admitted to Coach on ESPN that he has had post concussion seizures that he has hidden ... (and he still tried to get his release to wrestle elsewhere). The last batch of tests apparently showed slowed reflexes and a lesion on his brain that triggers such seizures.

Great segment. Bryan is so well spoken and grounded. I really look forward to see what his future holds, but tonight was also potentially game changing. There was no fingers pointed or blame being laid, but WWE now needs to be very careful.

That is seriously bad. Sad but very glad to see him retired now.

I remember the first time I even saw him wrestle and even heard of him was on the very first Ring of Honor show in a main event Triple Threat versus Christopher Daniels and Low-Ki for the ROH title in front of probably 20 people. I had stopped watching wrestling altogether for a few years. The match was amazing as I had never seen something so fast paced and choreographed so well for guys basically wrestling for peanuts inside a school gymnasium. That was around 2005.

Fast forward ten years and here we are at the retirement of Daniel Bryan. within these ten years I've seen him:

Wrestle thirty minute matches in what looked liked an gas station converted into a wrestling ring in FIP against CM Punk. Turning a tiny neutral crowd that just wanted something to watch into a lively crowd yelling during every near fall.

Have the first ever "Relaxed Rules" match in which he fought evil hippie Necro Butcher and slapped a ref for telling him to break a hold during said Relaxed Rules match.

"Ref I have till 5!"

Wrestle a series of matches in America and Japan against one of my favorite Japanese wrestlers KENTA aka Hideo Itami which may have gotten KENTA a wwe recommendation in the first place.

Finally make it in the WWE, get fired from the WWE, get rehired in the WWE.

Get over during the weekly exposure of being buried and downplayed for how good he was despite being the most experienced of the first NXT roster season. They put Otunga over him for fuck sakes, but you can't stop real talent.

Bryan beating the shit out of Cole in frustration. Seriously go watch that on youtube right now to make your day better!

Bryan coming back as a "pro" in NXT season 3 and coaching a young Derrick Bateman aka EC3 and having some of the funniest goofball moments and backstage segements on WWE tv. Seriously go watch all of that on youtube right now to make your month better!

Bryan and Bateman having a kayfabe double date with The Bellas which probably lead to the real life falling in love with his now actual wife.

"Aj shut up." *crowd loses it*

The surprisingly well done love quadrangle of CM Punk. AJ Lee, Bryan, and Kane which lead to the even better angle of Team Friendship with Kane and the real life romance of Punk and AJ.

Everything about the Team Friendship story. Dr. Fucking Shelby! The Smackdown show where Kane and Bryan took chairs to like 20 heels and beat them senseless for 15 minutes with giant smiles on their faces, then following that up on RAW with the Anger Management graduation ceremony in a group hug. Even fans started hugging! Go watch all of that make your life better!

Getting to see Bryan and Punk wrestle main event matches for the world title against one another knowing a few years ago they had been wrestling gymnasiums and gas stations for almost nothing.

The MASSIVE pop Bryan got when he turned on Bray Wyatt in the cage on RAW.

Fan revolt on anything main event that didn't involve Bryan. People were fully behind Bryan during his main event despite how the company seemed to be fighting against it for a year.

Wrestlemainia 30 basically being saved by Bryan going over.

I'm not at all sad that Bryan is retiring. There is nothing to be sad about. I've celebrated with this man and followed him for too long to have anything but praise for him.

Cole: "Yeah, thanks to Kane. You should buy Kane a Rolex watch for what he did for you."
Rollins: "Oh don't be silly, Kane doesn't wear watches."

WOW. I haven't seen this yet. Are you saying he was aware that he was NOT ok yet wanted to wrestle anyways? Or he had seizures but he didn't realize what caused it?
Aaaanyways...turns out WWE was not the evil company that tried to prevent us from seeing the guy or "it's political because of the Punk lawsuit"
In this case WWE was right all along to stop him from getting in the ring. Damn, now I'm extra glad he retired..

I really want to believe he was selling. But I have a sneaking suspicion that it was legit. Why would a performer with a history of seizures sell a move by having a seizure-like reaction? I wouldn't want to relive those feelings and experiences to entertain people, but I'm probably wired differently than Daniel Bryan. And if that wasn't selling, WWE handled this situation better than any other major sports organization in the history of everything. I love a good conspiracy theory, especially one that makes sense like the Punk-lawsuit theory. But if this was real, and the main reason behind WWE keeping him out, I give them all the credit in the world for looking out for him.

That's said to be selling, not the seizures.

Today's Observer has more details about the last test and the seizures.

Danielson’s test showed a small subacute or chronic lesion in his temporal parietal region of the brain, the area of the brain that causes seizures. Danielson has had post concussion seizures for a long time and nobody could find any evidence as to why.

What is key here is that Danielson made the decision on his own to retire after finding evidence that something was wrong. He was not told after getting the test results that he had to retire, and he will be undergoing more testing, but the damage was still in evidence more than eight months after his most recent concussion.

The test Bryan took appears to be Evoke Neuroscience's eVox. Meltzer brought up the test on a podcast a few weeks ago while seeing it demonstrated at a MMA function in Las Vegas. Meltzer dances it around it for his own reasons, but it appears Bryan heard about that test from that podcast (and maybe contacted Dave for more details), and it's that test that convinced Bryan to retire.

(Went with the smaller version.)
Watching that, I hope it was selling, but I wonder if Barrett saw something when Bryan stood up and was bleeding, then attacked him as a cover for an oncoming seizure. This wasn't, say, D-Von selling things his usual way.
