Biggest. Announcement. Ever.: The final edition (yes, ever) of the Daily Quickie will be on Thursday, August 31.

But don't expect some maudlin, "Friends"-style countdown to oblivion. (No, it'll be a maudlin, Quickie-style countdown to oblivion.)

Check back each day between now and 8/31 for a look back at the best (and worst) of the nearly 1,000 editions since it launched in '03.

This is *terrible* news. I LOVE the DQ. I glance at several newspapers online each morning, but they Daily Quickie is the *only* daily must-read for me.

I usually checked out the Daily Quickie when something big related to my favorite teams happened, just to see if they "made it" on the Quickie.

I love reading the Quickie, it is a big part of my daily morning routine. I haven't seen anything about why he is leaving, or where he is going. Anyone know? Maybe he is waiting to announce it later, but I will miss Shanoff's take on daily events, many times he alerted me to some issue I didn't even know about.

It may be a complete concidence, but it looks like put a link for Bill Simmons column only on the main page, and nothing for it on Page 2. Might have nothing to do with the end of the Daily Quickie, but it makes me think they're doing a relaunch of Page 2 or getting rid of it entirely and integrating that content elsewhere. - CMLLBlog

My best friend was 18 when he met his future wife. She was 23 and in her final semester of college. They got engaged in less than a year, and married after two years. They're the happiest couple I know (and had a baby boy about a year ago).
