Proof was the guy (besides Bizarre) who always stood out int tracks with his distinct gravel voice. And unlike Bizarre (who gets by more on personality) Proof was an amazing lyricist.
Don't know if we'll ever see the third album they were supposed to record either.
Just makes the "Like Toy Soldiers" video really, REALLY eerie to watch.
I cannot even pretend anymore to comprehend what goes through the minds of members of the hip-hop community that continue to find themselves in these situations. I mean, it's stupid enough when anyone else does it, but you'd think that someone with that level of notoriety and presumably that much money, would have someone starting shit with them at a bar at a low priority. I fully understand that there's a lot of emphasis put on credibility in the genre, but what do you really have to prove by opening fire on someone you're in an argument with?
Perhaps what it comes down to is that in hip-hop the egos get so huge that they can lose any and all awareness of their own mortality. The shame is that a death like this really won't raise the awareness that music journalists and some recording artists would like to think it does, since it keeps happening (and the shooting deaths of Shakur and Biggie Smalls should've already done that).

This incident and others like it have less to do with hip hop & more to do with where & how these guys were raised. Most of the time, they still would have found themselves in these situations even if they werent rap stars or in the music industry at all.
If *I* were them, once I "made it" I would run as far from that lifestyle as possible, but it seems that most of them have a hard time letting go of that "gangsta" life even after they've become successful.
I mean, the whole point of wanting to make it big as a rapper & make all that money is so you dont have to live that gangster life in the ghetto anymore, right?
Still though, it seems very strange that Proof would react in such a way. While he did get into it pretty deep with Royce5'9 a while back, he never seemed like the type that was violent or even that hot-headed. This account of his behavior seems pretty irrational. He left behind 6 kids IIRC.
One rap shooting death suspect down, 500 to go. As sad as that record is, at least Proof's family has a shot at seeing the man responsible pay.
Also weird hearing this part of the song "Good Die Young" They say it's never too late, to have an early childhood If I could, turn back the hands of time, God should Forgive what i did as a kid to run blocks Now my dreams are just dream cops and gun shots The fun stops when your homies up in a box My dudey bole, rest his soul, snuffed by the cops I use to question a lot, if theres a god why don't he say somethin If you love us so much why didn't you gave nothin When he took my homie, snuck was only in 11th grade Now I hope to see his face at the heaven gates It aint never late in the game, satan remains With a grudge to see slugs straight through my frame My heart aches with the pain, the life in his breath We gotta have fun now, theres only minutes left In the depth, distressed youngins get sucked in To get tats of my fallen homies, I aint got enough skin
It's just unfreakinbelievable but I doubt we've heard the last rap from D12 about gunplay and I'm not sure how these guys keep talking about it in their work.
Oh and Deputy Marshall, Bizarre was rumoured to have been involved but he quickly proved that untrue. How? He was home in Georgia. Some of them DO aim to get out of the hood I guess.

I guess you don't watch Celebrity Fit Club. He has a nice big house in the burbs.

About a year ago, I caught them playing "Rock Star" on Letterman. It was pretty kickass- lots of big guitars and rock. Lately, I've tried to download the song at Kazaa, but it seems different- the guitars are replaced by beats.
