Heard reports today that pending everyone passing physicals, the D-Backs get Richie Sexson for Junior Spivey, Lyle Overbay, Craig Counsell, and Chris Capuano. Interesting that none of the guys the D-Backs got from the Red Sox were part of the trade. I am guessing we just gave the Brewers 3/4 of their starting infield (for better or worse) next year.
Pretty good trade as the D-Backs didn't give up anyone they really wanted to keep (other than Overbay, and Sexson replaces him, at least for one year)
This isn't a bad set of deals for the D-Backs. They got Schilling out (with Webb coming up behind him, Schilling became expendable, as we all figured out). From what I read, there actually was a young pitcher (name?) that went from the Red Sox to the D-Backs, then was shipped on.
As it is, I actually expect 'Zona to make a run at keeping Sexson around. He isn't exactly the oldest guy around...
This would be a crappy trade for the Brewers. They're trying to get a "name" player in Counsell (he's from just north of Milwaukee), but he plays a position that the Brewers don't need (and at a salary that they shouldn't pay him).
When Sexson gets traded, he should be dealt for prospects, not current big leaguers (with the possible exception of a first baseman).
I thought that originally Fossum was going to the Brewers as part of this deal; what happened to that?

As for the players... good God, is Sexson really worth SIX players? Smacks a bit of Herschel, if you ask me. Except I don't think Overbay/Spivey/etc. are gonna pan out to be THAT good. Maybe the Happy Fun Bunch of Brewers Farmhands could do it?

No kidding nobody thought of Sexson as a great player...he WAS in Milwaukee, after all. *grumble* But ESPN did say he smacked just as many dingers last year as one Barry Bonds, and he ain't so bad. :-)
That pitcher who was touted as the best prospect in the Red Sox farm system better pan out, or Bud's given us the big beer bottle shoved you-know-where yet again.

True, but he's good enough, right-handed power, hits well in BOB, stuff like that. the strikeout/walk ratio is pretty eh, but that's to be expected. appears to be a great guy so there shouldn't be any chemistry issues, although honestly it probably needed a wakeup.
I know the main beef here is that even if sexson hits 40 homers or so, is that going to off-set the loss of Schilling especially if Randy struggles and batista goes somewhere else?
Fossum can start but he's probably gonna be needed for lefty relief unless Randolph/Oropesa/Orosco somehow works out...
Griffey really changed when he was playing in Seattle. It's hard to pinpoint what did it. He is a very imature person though, but then again he did have to grow up fast. He was VERY sensitive in Seattle, and never took critisim very well.
