Heard reports today that pending everyone passing physicals, the D-Backs get Richie Sexson for Junior Spivey, Lyle Overbay, Craig Counsell, and Chris Capuano. Interesting that none of the guys the D-Backs got from the Red Sox were part of the trade. I am guessing we just gave the Brewers 3/4 of their starting infield (for better or worse) next year.

Pretty good trade as the D-Backs didn't give up anyone they really wanted to keep (other than Overbay, and Sexson replaces him, at least for one year)

overbay's stock really dropped last year, and with sexson he's moot. spivey and couns dropped (and craig did say he wouldn't mind being closer to home), plus capuano is moot compared to Fossum.

so infield will be Sexson, Kata, Cintron, Hillenbrand...

This isn't a bad set of deals for the D-Backs. They got Schilling out (with Webb coming up behind him, Schilling became expendable, as we all figured out). From what I read, there actually was a young pitcher (name?) that went from the Red Sox to the D-Backs, then was shipped on.

As it is, I actually expect 'Zona to make a run at keeping Sexson around. He isn't exactly the oldest guy around...

Yes, it looks like the final deal is Overbay, Counsell and de La Rosa (whom they got from the Red Sox)

It ain't so, sez the Brewers' official site.

Of course, an AP article on ESPN.com says it's near completion.

Richie, we hardly knew ye. Think I'll go comfort myself with a few of Milwaukee's finest barley pops, stick Selig's mug up on a dartboard, and go hope for some Paul Molitor votes on this year's Cooperstown ballot.

This would be a crappy trade for the Brewers. They're trying to get a "name" player in Counsell (he's from just north of Milwaukee), but he plays a position that the Brewers don't need (and at a salary that they shouldn't pay him).

When Sexson gets traded, he should be dealt for prospects, not current big leaguers (with the possible exception of a first baseman).

I thought that originally Fossum was going to the Brewers as part of this deal; what happened to that?

How to Make the Wienerboard a Better Place, Chapter 1: Just because you can't spell "Heidenreich", doesn't make you clever.
Grimis: I guess they realized he isn't THAT reliable? (shrug)

As for the players... good God, is Sexson really worth SIX players? Smacks a bit of Herschel, if you ask me. Except I don't think Overbay/Spivey/etc. are gonna pan out to be THAT good. Maybe the Happy Fun Bunch of Brewers Farmhands could do it?

Sexson is one of those guys I never really think of a Great player. But he does put up good powernumbers more times then not.

No kidding nobody thought of Sexson as a great player...he WAS in Milwaukee, after all. *grumble* But ESPN did say he smacked just as many dingers last year as one Barry Bonds, and he ain't so bad. :-)

That pitcher who was touted as the best prospect in the Red Sox farm system better pan out, or Bud's given us the big beer bottle shoved you-know-where yet again.

True, but he's good enough, right-handed power, hits well in BOB, stuff like that. the strikeout/walk ratio is pretty eh, but that's to be expected. appears to be a great guy so there shouldn't be any chemistry issues, although honestly it probably needed a wakeup.

I know the main beef here is that even if sexson hits 40 homers or so, is that going to off-set the loss of Schilling especially if Randy struggles and batista goes somewhere else?

Fossum can start but he's probably gonna be needed for lefty relief unless Randolph/Oropesa/Orosco somehow works out...

Paid suspension, and if he makes the All Star Game, his contract states that he gets a bonus, which I'm sure would pay for his fine. So all that really happens is that the Rangers are penalized by not having him for 4 starts or so.
