According to the Torch, he and Tyler Reks were "fired" by NXT GM William Regal on this week's episode of NXT, so I assume that's what he's referring to (unless he's also been fired in real life).

Yea, that's how it plays out on the show, this is just an extension of the storyline. They'll probably be finding a way back next week, or are getting moved to one of the other shows.
I think it's the NXT storyline Hawkins/Reks/Regal/Striker are currently involved in. I'm actually starting to like Reks and Hawkins on that show and think they need to move to one of the big shows and eventually a tag title push. They have that skeevy douchebags in shitty bands I expect from groups like Limp Bizkit or Nickelback, which oddly works for them.

Reks and Hawkins, not the shit bands.
No, I've met Fred Durst. He is a skeevy douchebag in a shitty band.
I never watched NXT, but maybe they could retool the show (maybe they've done this already?) to give a spot where the lower midcard guys squeezed out of TV time by the "SuperShow" concept can develop. Last I heard NXT was in week 40-something of a season that had dwindled to about 6 contenders.
With the half dozen or so new faces appearing on the main shows the last couple of weeks, just yesterday I was looking back to page 12 of the Wrestling section archives because I figured it was about time for the annual future endeavoring. Based on last years' thread (The W), which was themed "who do you think is getting the ax this year?", maybe we should all just wait to comment on the actual firings.

3 competitors, but besides that, that's basically what they've done with the show already. The "competition" has become something of a running gag, and they're doing their own NXT-centred storylines with undercard guys who don't normally appear on Raw or Smackdown. Tyson Kidd has turned face and gotten back together with Natalya on NXT, someone kidnapped Matt Striker, the Usos and Reks/Hawkins have feuded, there's been a love triangle with Johnny Curtis, Derrick Bateman and Maxine, and AJ and Hornswoggle were dating before the Daniel Bryan storyline started.
On last week's NXT, Michael McGillicutty broke into the Divas locker room and stole a pair of Natalya's panties, bringing them out onto the stage and sniffing them to upset Tyson Kidd who was in the ring. Only on NXT!

If you're on this show, you're not making Raw or SmackDown and you've clearly pissed someone off. I feel bad for guys like Alex Riley and Tyson Kidd, who deserve better than this drivel. But yes, this show has gone from a competition to wrestling purgatory. The glass ceiling is now spelled "N-X-T."

Coincidentally Titus O'Neil and Darren "Brown Cena" Young received letters to officially join the Smackdown roster. There really is "Redemption" on NXT Redemption after all.

For what it's worth, it's still aired in prime time in Canada on TV, though it's an internet show everywhere else in the world as far as I know!

Haha, yes!
I watched last week and was mesmerized by it. I don't know if it's awful or brilliant, but I love it either way.
I also legitimately think Hawkins is a super talent. Good worker, really good mic skills/facials, and has charisma. All he needs is the right opportunity and I think he'll surprise a lot of people.
