I time-shifted RAW so I wasn't really paying attention and had no idea what Cubs was talking about when he PM'd me, but eventually I figured it out. When Chris Jericho retweeted (@IAmJericho) Cubs' tweet (@thecubsfan) which happened to link to Cubs' post in this week's RAW thread.
That's *629* folks at 00:18:40 Sep 28 2010 CDT - 10 of us, 26 bots and a hell of a lot of referrals (and lurkers who didn't show up as referrals...but probably were).
(users=629,reg=10,search=302,lurk=291,bot=26)
Yikes! I hope we held up.
Although we didn't start tracking this stuff until the very, very end of 2003, I feel confident in saying this is our all-time REAL highest user count for the board.
The RAW thread already has over 1500 referrals as I type this and will easily become the #1 referred thread title for September (sorry, Scott - you WERE on pace for two months in a row).
The users indicator on the index page pegs at 70, so I guess it'll stay all the way red for more than a few hours.
Clearly I naively thought we'd never need integers above 127 (or 255) - and about 100% of the time I was right...
Notable dates in this table:
8/26/06 was a spam attack by somebody who registered a few hundred times so that wasn't really a "real" total
WM XX was 3/14/04 and a good week for us (and WWE)! Also, 3 and 4/04 was probably just before I totally ruined our Google mojo (the first time) by changing the name from wienerboard.com to the-w.com.
6/3/08 was that time Boffo conned Deadspin into linking to one of his TV ratings threads because he talked about Elite XC in it.
Perhaps most importantly, I have to come up with another birthday present for Cubs for NEXT year since he made the cardinal mistake of linking HERE instead of thecubsfan.com.
This was only the second most amusing 'wrestling personality interacts with my tweet' moment of the night, though I did a little better directing this one. I knew I scored a goal when the bot flood light turned red.
Didn't actually watch RAW - was out watching the Bears! - but figured I'd help geemoney out and took five minutes to ffwd and write the list. (It was fun the time: I was there live for the moves list; I wonder if he spent the break insulting the crowd like he did that time.) I did it so long after the show, I assumed someone likely would've have done it already, but put Jericho's name in it just to see. I was pleased it worked, so much so that I had to get away from the internet before I became insufferable.
The best part was Jericho editing out my snarky (smarky?)post link comment. The second best part is Chris Jericho up at 1AM local reading tweets about himself. Maybe he's still suffering from the concussive kick and having trouble sleeping, poor guy.
Although....we didn't make any more or less on ad clicks than we usually do - in fact, Google says we made more on Monday than we did on Tuesday. I couldn't tell you why that is, unless we're attaching some real interesting and expensive ads to the "Simpsons" and fantasy football threads I don't know about.
Thread ahead: Something to fool around with because we're bored Next thread: the-w.com topics of interest: September 2010 Previous thread: Sixty-three million wasted clicks
