I like Craig Kilborn, always have early on. I think it's because his show was different than the other late night shows. First off he never had a band, and his show just had a different feel to it. The whole show seems a lot more of a relax feel to it which I like.
I know a lot of people don't like him as they find him smug & egotistical and usually that would be a turn off for me, but I always felt like he was winking at the camera while doing it. Which I think plays perfectly to my favorite alter-ego of his Sebastian the Asexual icon
I think he has the best "Desk piece" in network late night shows with "In the News" which I always think was consistent funny. I Also like To ____ With Love. "What Up" is pretty good too... His guest quality isn't great but again he tries to be somewhat unique with 5 Questions or Yambo.
I'm going to miss Kilby. Out of the 5 network late night hosts, it's close but I think Kilborn is my favorite. Letterman, I still like him but he's kinda showing his age these days. O'Brian is good, but at times too goofy for my taste. Leno, his headlines are good but I can't watch any other part of his show. I can't even remember the name of the guy on ABC (does quick search, Kimmel), I still don't know how ABC is keeping that show on the air & Kimmel is as unfunny as he was in the Man Show... Which leaves Kilborn on top for me, he's got charisma and confidence that really makes me want to watch him.
Oh well, It's Friday (if you are late reading this)... and all I want to do is dance, dance, dance!

What intices me, though, is that Amy Sedaris of Stangers with Candy, and sister of David Sedaris, is being rumored to be his replacment. Now, *that* would be an interesting show. If that happens I'll be looking forward to checking it out- too bad it will be on opposite of Conan.

(Logically, he's probably first in line for Leno's spot as well, but he plans on being unfunny for a great many years still, whereas I'd be shocked if Dave is still on the air five years from now.)
EDIT: Oh, and even with Jimmy Kimmell, Jay Leno and I'll even count Colin Quinn out there, Craig Kilborn was *still* undeniably the worst late night host on television. His show was a testament to the talents of The Daily Show's writing team.

It'd be interesting if Amy Sedaris ended up being his replacement. Has a woman ever hosted the Late Show (or Late Late Show, or Late Night, or Tonight, or whatever the fuck this one is)?

The only female late night talk show host I can remember was Joan Rivers in the 80s. And that only sticks out 'cause she had Pee Wee Herman guest host for her a couple times.

He just one-upped at Comedy Central through 2008, though of course Viacom owns both CC and CBS, so who knows what corporate shuffling could take place.
The irony of that, of course, is that Stewart was Tom Snyder's regular guest host, and when the old man stepped down from the Late Late Show he should have gotten the regular hosting gig. Instead, CBS stole the host of the Daily Show, and Stewart got that job instead. We know how that turned out.

Oddly enough, I also liked Jon Stewart best of the three as the host in the 12:30 slot on CBS (back when he used to pinch hit for Tom Snyder before he took over TDS).
Although really, Conan lapped Kilbourn some time ago as being the better show of the two...so the fact that he's leaving is almost like a tree falling in the forest.

Ugh. I dunno, but when that happened I was pretty broken up over it. I can't imagine what anyone would find funny.

Didn't Whoopi have a late night show? It was like Arsenio, in that it was syndicated, and, at least around here, it was on late night.

Whoopi's was more like Costas in that there was no studio audience, IIRC. I remember watching her show in my freshman year of college. She had some cool guests on there. I don't think I've ever seen Stephen King interviewed on a talk show before. | Mayhem

I totally agree, man ... I've hated that sumbitch ever since the extremely tacky and tasteless Blue Blazer comment right after Owen's passing ...

I don't know what his quote is at but I'm pretty sure that he would be taking a paycut to take that slot.
Letterman has control over the slot and he notoriously hasn't wanted to put someone on who would upstage him. (Snyder? Kilborn? Come on.) Plus Conan just signed a new deal with NBC not that long ago.
The Amy Sedaris rumor seems plausible because Letterman is a huge fan of hers.
Kilborn being a douchebag is his on-camera persona, though, that's his style of humour and it always has been.

I was actually upset though that I missed Kilby doing Sportscenter Old School on ESPN. Craig was pretty decent as a SC host (the only thing he's good at apparently).
