It seems that Fox is having a guy write a script for a live-action Bebop movie and Keanu Reeves has been linked with it to play Spike Spiegel: Linkify! (hollywoodreporter.com)
Bebop has a pretty good story so if they stay true to that and utilize music in the movie like the songs from the anime they will be off to a good start. Here's (video.google.com) the opening theme, quite possible one of the hottest jazz songs I've ever heard in my limited experience. (It's loud, so use your headphones and turn it down if you're at work...)
I think that's the most depressing thread title I've ever seen. The link's not working from my job network but I hope they leave the series ending alone. Don't mess with that ending please, it's one of my favorite end battles ever.
'But if one is struck by me only a little, that is far different, the stroke is a sharp thing and suddenly lays him lifeless, and that man's wife goes with cheeks torn in lamentation, and his children are fatherless, while he, staining the soil with his red blood, rots away, and there are more birds than women swarming about him.' Diomedes, The Iliad of Homer
Well, I admit that I pointed out the link between the movie and Keanu Reeves because I knew it would cause some reaction, but the script hasn't even been finished, so it's not exactly cast in stone. I would prefer someone that hasn't starred in a major Hollywood film. Do you guys have someone in mind?
Also, I agree that the ending of the show was on a level of excellence rarely seen and I don't want to see it ruined in a live action adaptation either. Hopefully, the script will utilize one of the other storylines or maybe they could adapt eps. 1-9 into a viable movie, thus leaving the series' epic ending alone. I won't hold my breath though.
He doesn't have the right air of nonchalance and intelligence that Spike has... I'm not sure who I'd want to play him, but Keanu's not it. That said, regardless of the cast, I'll rush out and see this movie.
I know everyone's going to be dying to know who's going to play Faye, but I for one want to know who's going to play Jett.
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...
As much as I agree about Keanu, I am a little biased FOR him because I work at The Today Show and a couple of weeks ago he came by to promote The Day The Earth Stood Still and he was such a decent person. he stayed and signed autographs outside well past his segment and he posed for pictures and autograph swith anyone who worked on the show. I have seen MANY people come in and leave in a rush (Cruise) or act like a b*tch (Tomei) but Reeves was a class act. So if he gets the role, I will not bitch because of how cool he was to EVERYONE he met. A class act.
"Marriage is like that show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, but it’s not funny. All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense. Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever."
I remember watching his first TV performance since coming out of rehab (which, ironically, had a set designed as a mock graveyard) and noticed George looked kind of tired and seemed to have lost his fire.
