Originally posted by SI NEBRASKA: Former Huskers and NFL running back Lawrence Phillips reportedly hocked his Big 12 Championship ring for $20 last month at a Las Vegas pawn shop. The owner of the pawn shop placed the ring on eBay and netted $1,680 on his investment. While Phillips has been awash in a sea of troubles for most of his adult life, I'm more concerned about the guy who would drop almost $1,700 on a Big 12 Championship ring.

Phillips had already run into trouble while in college (He climbed up to the second story of a dorm room to attack a former girlfriend or something). He was suspended for a few weeks, but allowed to play in Nebraska's bowl game. Alot of NFL teams viewed him as a longshot or "project", but the Rams and Dick Vermeil took a chance on him. There wasn't a debate over "who would you take? Lawrence Phillips or Eddie George"?

Well, they won the Grey Cup that year anyway.
