According to SI Former Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips pawned his Big 12 championship ring for 20 bucks (sportsillustrated.cnn.com)
Originally posted by SI NEBRASKA: Former Huskers and NFL running back Lawrence Phillips reportedly hocked his Big 12 Championship ring for $20 last month at a Las Vegas pawn shop. The owner of the pawn shop placed the ring on eBay and netted $1,680 on his investment. While Phillips has been awash in a sea of troubles for most of his adult life, I'm more concerned about the guy who would drop almost $1,700 on a Big 12 Championship ring.

Phillips was a real asshole. The Montreal Alouettes let go CFL's all time best running back (Mike Pringle) for this guy. Of course, Phillips flaked out and was soon arrested for violent behavior towards his girlfriend.
In defense of Leaf (can't believe I said that), he'd be more of a bust because coming out of college he seemed promising. There was a big debate over "who would you take? Ryan Leaf or Peyton Manning"?
Phillips had already run into trouble while in college (He climbed up to the second story of a dorm room to attack a former girlfriend or something). He was suspended for a few weeks, but allowed to play in Nebraska's bowl game. Alot of NFL teams viewed him as a longshot or "project", but the Rams and Dick Vermeil took a chance on him. There wasn't a debate over "who would you take? Lawrence Phillips or Eddie George"?
I said in a previous thread that Antwaan Randle El would be huge, and watching the Steelers preseason game, I just saw him put on one of the most ridiculous speed burts I've ever seen to score on a reverse.
