--Former WWE and Japanese wrestler Corporal Mike Kirchner (aka Thomas Spear), who also wrestled under names like Leatherface and R.T. Reynolds, passed away on Sunday.
I'm assuming this is the dude that wrestled Nikolai Volkoff in the flag match at Wrestlemania 2, right?
Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"
Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"
Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"
Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Yep. I thought it was "Kirchner" but WM2 was a looong time ago. OWW says "Kirschner":
Ah, Corporal Kirschner -- such memories! I'll never forget the time about 10 years ago that a couple of friends and I, longtime wrestling fans all, rented an old WWF tape, fired it up and said to each other: "Corporal Kirschner?! I don't even remember this guy!"
You might think this a disrespectful thought to have about a dead man, but I don't feel at all icky about it. Why, you ask? I don't have to have fond memories of Corporal Kirschner because Leatherface was totally fucking awesome.
If my memory is any good, then the Corporal did play a role in the build-up to Mania III. Andre was supposed to be his partner against Studd/Bundy, but Andre 'no-showed', thus allowing Heenan to demand that President Tunney suspend Andre. This led to Giant Machine and then Andre's eventual return under Heenan leading to Hogan/Andre. As for Kirchner: At least he didn't die in prison.

Um, I hate to say that it isn't, but it was Hillbilly Jim who took the kabosh for Andre not showing up. But as a further positive, it planted the seeds for the squashification of Little Beaver.

I think it was first reported on wwe.com though, which is where the Observer probably got it. So if anything, the egg is on their face. Especially considering this was a guy that actually worked for them. Wonder if they'll post a retraction, as the story has disappeared from the site.
Vikes told Brock that if he did go to NFL Europe there would be a roster spot for him next season. So I see him staying out of WWE for awhile. I mean, the longer he stays out, the more leverage he will have.
