As far as the treasured 18-49 demo goes, Wednesday night on cable is dominated by South Park and two other shows: House of Payne and Meet the Browns. House of Payne was also the highest rated sitcom in cable television HISTORY, but I believe it was knocked off its perch... by Meet the Browns. Are those the "shitcoms" to which you refer?

High ratings != quality show. You probably also think Jay Leno is the best late night host on television today.

I don't think that, and I'm not sure why you'd guess that, but whatever.

Anyway, your original point was that Meet the Browns and House of Payne would not be good lead-ins for Conan. Who better than a couple of the highest rated shows in Conan's target demo?

Perhaps you don't know what a lead-in is? Or maybe you just don't understand why anybody cares about who their lead-in is, or what makes a good lead-in?

Perhaps you're reading too much into my post which are prompting your smarmy replies? Where did I say anything about ratings? Oh wait - I didn't.

Maybe if I said "I don't know what's a worse lead-in as far as quality goes", you probably wouldn't have responded.

I see, thanks for clarifying. If you're comparing two of cable's top-rated shows in the 18-49 demo to the total ratings bust that was The Jay Leno Show and saying you're not sure which would be a worse lead-in, then clearly "I don't understand what makes a good lead-in" is the answer to my question. Got it.

(Don't worry, Z, I'm done here.)

How sick will people be of Conan after he is forced down people's throats in a manner TBS has perfected during the baseball playoffs during EVERY commercial break?

Having a bad day, are we? I thought inhaling a KFC DoubleDown would've put you in a better mood.

Once again, I was not speaking in terms of ratings. That being said, I'll give you that I did not know that those two shows were among the top-rated shows on cable television. So please forgive me for not knowing that.

Maybe this discussion would've turned out different if you had not come across as a smarmy, condescending jackass when replying to me. Food for thought, StingArmy!

People, people.

It's so obvious what's being said - why pussy foot around it?

Only black people watch "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns!"

(I know. Racism is so ugly.)

'Tis true. Or at least I would assume 'tis true, but given how high their numbers are, I feel like 1 of 2 things must be true:

1) ALL black people watch House of Payne and Meet the Browns.

-or-

2) A whole BUNCH of black people watch House of Payne and Meet the Browns, but at least a few smaller bunches of other people also watch.

I know #1 isn't quite true, but with how the shows are marketed, I would be surprised if #2 is true. Maybe it's actually #3: TBS/Nielsen are cooking the books!

Either way, apparently the end result is that Conan stands to gain. This, of course, is assuming casual viewers haven't forgotten about Conan after he's been off TV for over half a year.

The "unprecedented media campaign" will ensure no one forgets about him, but I'd be more concerned about people still liking him.

I was never in the target audience for FrankTV, but TBS's carpet bombing of the show during the MLB playoffs guaranteed I'd stay far away from it. With Conan's new show kicking off in November, TBS will surely plan something on a similar (or larger!) scale for Conan's new show during this year's playoffs. Hopefully they've learned something.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

This is why Lopez is the big winner in this deal, despite his show getting bumped to midnight to accommodate Conan. Everyone's going to know his show exists now.

Thing is, contrary to popular opinion, I don't think Letterman is going to be retiring any time soon. Even though Jay took back the lead - and we still need to see if Jay can hold onto it - Dave's numbers are higher than before this whole NBC debacle started, he's still funny, and he's far more youthful at 63 than Carson was when he retired at 66.

As far as Conan is concerned, at the end of the day, while I still think Fox would have been the better choice for him in the long run, I can understand why he made this choice. There was bigger growth potential in the future under the Fox banner, but TBS gives him greater immediate visibility and creative freedom (which is probably what Conan valued most above all else). You can be damn sure the lawyers will be making sure Conan retains every last character he creates from here on out.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

See, that's where it gets interesting to me. IIRC, the guys that own TBS also own Cartoon Network and in turn, Adult Swim. AS has been one of Coco's biggest supporters. So now if his show goes on like planned, it's going to go right against AS's cash cow- Family Guy episodes. Add to that the possiblity of FG reruns showing on TBS and you could have FG showing on basic cable for 2 or 3 hours straight. That has to wear out even the most dedicated fan. It makes me wonder how the powers-to-be at Cartoon Network are going to adjust to this, considering (I would think) they have to protect AS and its huge (for cable) late night audience.

That said, I really like the move. Conan's going to have less restrictions and while there will be a lot of attention based on the ratings, being on cable, he probably won't need to have as big a number as he would had at FOX to have his show considered a sucess.

The only thing I wonder is if he'll move back to NY for his new show. I would hope so; his brand of humor worked much better on New Yorkers than it did in LA.

I believe it was NBC Nightly News (yes, they covered it) who claimed the show will be produced in Los Angeles.

Between TBS, Adult Swim, syndication and first run on Fox, you can watch about six hours of Family Guy every night.

I can still picture those Frank TV ads as if I just saw them.
I shudder to think what they are going to do to promote Conan O'Brien, short of having him sing the national anthem, selling peanuts and being first base umpire.

Hey Look! It's Enrico Pallazzo!

The oversaturation of FG is making me loathe the DVD's I own of their earlier seasons. Funny enough, I will usually have the TV on [as] when I go to sleep for background noise. Lately I've been switching over to The Daily Show instead 'cause I'm getting tired of hearing the same episodes over & over. I'm thinking I'll have to check out Conan's show this fall.

I'm trying to think what I've watched on TV that caused me to know George Lopez had a late night show.

I'm confused... We're all dreading the TBS ad-blitz, but no one knew George Lopez had a show even though he had access to the same blitz??? I think the problem with the FrankTV ads was that it was just a series of Frank doing his impressions, which is pretty much one note schtick. Conan's more talented, and I'm pretty sure being subjected to his repetitive ads shouldn't be as bad, right?

Same here my sister. It doesn't matter to me if the Lopez show moved to my house; I doubt I would watch it. I doubt I will watch Conan's show either (other than the first episode), as I just don't ever watch anything on TBS (and they don't do HD).

You might not get the channel in HD but it certainly is available that way, especially now that they've stopped stretching programs to fill the screen.

Just for the record, I do get TBS on Bell ExpressVu in Quebec.

It may have some restricted programming - as a not too close an example the NFL Network in Canada is not allowed to play games when they appear on other networks. They end up with a screen of scores and radio reports on game day until Gameday starts playing.
