See, this "news" story broke yesterday and I had to wonder why this is "news"? I mean, Max isn't coming back. That's news. It was always kind of a given Andy was on board with the TBS show.
But yes indeed, this is great "news".

He's been off the air for some time now, so maybe to build hype/get exposure?

I haven't been following this close enough to catch this. That's really unfortunate. In a lot of ways, Max was a bigger part of the show than Andy was. Do we know who's going to be the band on the new show? | Moss

It's part of the (worked) ad campaign. Personally I'm a fan of a publicity strategy that's a bit more subtle than "WATCH THIS SHOW! [/ Ollie Williams (spike.com) ]".
