Community is back and how! Man, I missed this show. The first episode was a lot stronger than the 2nd. Some key jokes I liked was Abed talking about Scrubs and how Zach Braff was only there for 6 episodes on season 9 and Troy getting mad "after all they did for him" (Donald Glover is leaving in 5 episodes). Troy saying "Isn't it weird without..." (looking at the empty seat Pierce is normally at) "Magnitude?" LOL And then to see Hologram Pierce at the end... wasn't expecting that. They called out some weird stuff that happened last season like Chang pretending to be Kevin, tried to blow up the college, and yet still hired back as a teacher. Well anyways, Jeff Winger is back at Greendale as a teacher after failing as a lawyer... the crew didn't make it in the real world (Annie passing out pens for a drug company, Britta is a bartender, Abed is coding the newest social network while Troy is his partner who will sue him once the social network becomes popular, and Shirley putting all her money into her sandwich company and failing) so they re-enrolled.
The second episode had Mike from Breaking Bad acting like Mike from Breaking Bad which was cool. Abed acting like Nicholas Cage. Professor Professorson is also back. After Annie found out that teachers put minus on grades because they didn't like the student, the students rioted which had Magnitude saying "Pop Pop."
I think if you compare these two episodes to the first two episodes of last season, you can really see the differences in Harmon's influence. There were MASSIVE changes to this season (no Chevy, everyone had graduated, etc) in terms of structure, and yet each episode *felt* like an episodes of Community. Last season felt a lot like Community Zero.
All that said, I enjoyed these a lot. I'll likely have to re-watch them again to catch all of the stuff I'm sure I missed the first time, but I'm eagerly optimistic about this season.
Holy hell, I laughed so hard at the 'F' on the table. That and Fat Neil's spilling of the trash can.

Yeah, I have to rewatch it again to see what I missed. Too bad they aren't able to do holiday themed episodes because they didn't know when NBC was going to put them back on the air. Those were always really good.
It's a dang miracle. Stakes! Stakes so high that it felt like this could've been the "and a movie." Serious lighting. They walked back not only the gas leak year but many of the broader excesses of the increasingly bonkers season 3. Characs re-grounded! The Dean is a normal person by his standards, Chang is reigned in and back in his best role, Annie got a bunch of dignity and agency back, even Pierce got a deserved proper sendoff. Jonathan Banks made Robert California look like ... something very bad (owls and analogies and all that).
I'll take the Nicolas Cage breakdown over anything in a Dreamtorium.
Out of nowhere they have now have a foundation and ground beneath their feet when they want to do their next big adventure episode. But in a way it was far more endearing to just have the episode with a plot about two community college classes. A dang miracle.
I missed this show so much. The REAL show. It feels proper Community has been gone for as long as Arrested Development was, to the point that I almost forgot the new season was premiering last night.
Then these two episodes hit and all is right with the world.

As much as I like some of the back half of season 3, I would accept an argument that proper Community had been gone since December 2011, 3x10, and the Glee ep, when the show was pulled off the air and they made the remaining episodes in a vacuum of angst.
Originally posted by WiretapIt was amazing how little I noticed Chevy not being there until his hologram.
Loved the new eps.
I had forgotten all about him until Troy mentioned it.
Two of the biggest badasses on television have been teachers at Greendale, but can we get Mike and Omar in the same episode?
I have no problem relaunching this show under any premise, it's a lot like firing up another season of the Simpsons. You can throwback to old episodes, but they don't all have to connect.
Sadly the ratings were not commensurate with the amount of promotion NBC gave it and the rest of it's Thursday lineup in the weeks leading up to their debuts.
However, even at it's lowest number it still did better than Sean Saves the World or the Michael J. Fox Show.
I watched Re-Pilot but then switched over the the Sugar Bowl but am looking forward to watching the 2nd over the weekend.

It was great having this show back. But I can't stop thinking if they are going to be hurt when Troy leaves. Troy and Abed were/are my favorite part of the show. Their interactions were great. I will miss The dynamic they both bring together to the show.
Great to have it back. Will enjoy it while it lasts.
It's weird how there's been no hint of Troy leaving* but also no explanation of how his life has suffered since leaving Greendale. Troy just said Troy things.
The Pierce cameo was great.
* - outside of the ScrubsMed reference, jokes for me and five people are cool, let's explore the continuity problem of Jo being Abed's secret service girlfriend for an episode

We've already had Community reference Cougar Town which has referenced Community, if you didn't want to include the six-degrees of separation of Courtney Cox having been on Scrubs which also links her to Jo, so this isn't a new thing. By this logic, Abed should have pointed out John Goodman ran the air conditioning school (except I don't think he met him) and Sawyer was the hired paintball assassin. The problem with getting too meta is that when you've broken down all four walls, there's nothing holding the roof up. Thinking about the many lives of Eliza Coupe does that here.
However, to really go into the rabbit hole, what show has been the fourth network comedy on NBC in the Community-verse for the last five years? Abed would know this.
I was super excited when Zach Braff started narrating, until I realized it was just Abed screening Scrubs and not a real Braff cameo to pay off the references.
I was surprised by the Pierce cameo as well. I did not expect Chevy to be involved at all.
A little disappointed that everyone else graduated off screen. Just how long was supposed to have passed between Jeff's graduation and the reunion?

HitFX says it was actually a new Braff voice over. (And apparently meant to be a year between seasons.)
