Here's the current cast for BATMAN BEGINS
Christian Bale [Bruce Wayne/Batman]
Ken Watanabe [Ra's Al Ghul]
Liam Neeson [Henri Ducard]
Gary Oldman [Sgt. James Gordon]
Katie Holmes [Rachel Dodson]
Sir Michael Caine [Alfred Pennyworth]
Morgan Freeman [Lucius Fox]
(NEW) Tom Wilkinson [Falcone]
Cillian Murphy [Dr. Jonathan Crane]
(NEW) Rutger Hauer [Earle]
Also, Oscar nominated editor Lee Smith is handling film editing.

Also, Spider-Man II is hitting theatres on June 30th instead of July 2nd. Sony figures they can make more money opening on a Wednesday and having another two days to get folks in to see things.

Well I guess most of that casting is ok. However, its pretty hard for me to picture Tom Wilkinson as the Roman. I'm still not totally keen on Watanabe playing Ra's Al Ghul because from the rumors online, it sounds like he is NOT playing Ra's Al Ghul so much that they might as well call him Sin Tzu (from a batman video game).

Rutger Hauer had a short run on Smallville not that long ago as Morgan Edge. He's also in the upcoming 'Salem's Lot miniseries.

By "short run" you mean he was in the two-part season premiere, then his part was cleverly recast with Patrick Bergen in his role as Hauer was "unavailable".

I think the cast to the Batman movie is stellar. Hell, anything's better than Ah-nuld as Mr. Freeze ...

Here's the new logo ...

I like the new logo. Very retro. Very golden age. No yellow oval, like 1940s Batman. Very cool.

I can't get into that logo... it looks like it's made out of rusty sheet metal. Did this get turned into some kind of Elseworlds-y post-apocalypse story instead of a Year One kind of theme?

I still prefer the yellow oval logo. This "Begins" logo and the current comic logo remind me too much of the "Evil Horde" villains from He-Man. Either that, or Baron Blood from Invaders.

Personally, I've never been too fond of "Batman vs. gangster" stories. I like the goofy villains... although not the way they were handled in the movies. Ra's al Ghul would count as a goofy villain, but I have a hunch he won't be the main bad guy. I haven't been following this movie's development, so feel free to correct me.

Ra's is the main villain, but there's going be an opening-sequence punch-up with The Scarecrow to introduce the new Batman.

Also, Rutger Hauer was fucking AWESOME in Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind. The man's still got it, folks.

*Shakes head*

Bruce Wayne's parents were killed by Joe Chill, a random thug working for some random mobsters. He murdered a random couple and stole their money. Think about how twisted that is, and how much it must've warped Bruce. He was seven years old, and his folks are dead. He's alone, and knows it could happen to anybody at anytime, because it's completely random. Goofy villains and rogues came afterwards, after Batman became little more than a whisper in Gotham.

Whether or not you're a fan of the mobsters, they're THE integral part of Batman's origin...and I'm glad Nolan & Goyer care enough about the character to put them into the film.

Er... Zero Hour proved Joe Chill was innocent...

I can't wait for Batman Begins. I've been watching the HELL out of Equilibrium. People, Bateman will be the scariest fucking Batman ever. Ever.

I only wish the Scarecrow would have a major role, and that the casting of someone like Christopher Lloyd or Ed Norton had gone through for him.

This has little to do with anything, but Jim Carey would've been the PERFECT Joker.

Now I'm reading that Steve Buscemi is in the movie (Batman Begins) as a character called Swol B'elab. When are the announcements that Sean Penn, Bill Murray, Alec Baldwin, and Kevin Spacey are all in Batman now? Since Laurence Fishburne isn't playing Lucius Fox, maybe he can play another character like Victor Fries. I think this cast is getting a little TOO stacked up. If you look at your film history, that's not always a good thing.

I think they're wasting Scarecrow. He has too much potential as a character to be used up in a ten-minute opening fight scene. Save that for one of the real B-listers like Lockup or somebody.

You make an interesting point...

I've been thinking about this since about 3 or 4 A-List casting decisions ago, but didn't really want to say anything since so many people are so excited about the film, but now that you've brought it up...

I remember the last time I was getting psyched for a Batman film because it had so many actors I liked crammed into it. It was called Batman Forever....

I don't think it would be as bad as Batman Forever...It's just the problem I have with this kind of jam packed casting is that it could overshadow the movie and make it come off as bloated. Like I don't think you need to cast every bit character in this film with an A-list actor or movie star.

I mean this is BATMAN. That's all you really need to sell the movie. I mean I think the casting of the lord of the rings, x-men, and spider-man films are great examples of casting the right talent instead over RECOGNIZABLE names so to speak. I feel the casting of Bale as Batman was a step in the right direction, but it just seems there are too many stars in this film and I hope it doesn't weigh it down. Currently, it looks like Nolan is taking a Terrence Malick approach to the casting of this film.

Except there's not really too many stars in the film. Bale's unproven, Watanabe's got one major Western film to his name, Wilkinson and Hauer are strictly cult faves, the closest Neeson's ever been to stardom is Schindler's List, anybody who hasn't seen 28 Days Later... won't have a clue who Murphy is, Holmes is still only really known for Dawson's Creek, and Caine hasn't been a box office player since the sixties. The only two you could really argue are balance-toppling stars are Freeman and Oldman, and even then that's debatable.

Christian Bale is best known for American Psycho. Katie Holmes is known for Dawson's Creek and going naked in The Gift. Ken Watanabe is known for The Last Samurai. Tom Wilkinson is known as a good character actor. Rutger Hauer is another character actor. Morgan Freeman is another character actor, albeit a great one. Michael Caine is ANOTHER great character actor. Gary Oldman...same story. Cillian Murphy is a British guy. Liam Neeson...another great character actor.

The great thing is that almost all of these actors have the ability to fade into their roles for the sake of the story. If they had gone to find a big name actor to sell the film (or worse, several of them), the story would have suffered.

Besides, it's up to the director to keep the film from becoming bloated regardless of who's playing who in the film. That's his job. Let's just say I think Nolan will be a little better at it than Schumacher was.
