Day late and a peso short - but I wanted to comment on this and see what your thoughts are

I miss Grimis in these moments

I thought that it was an interesting timing to fire Comey but on the other hand I had been expecting it - Trump said he would "Drain the Swamp" and Comey, a guy who basically got him elected with his reveal of Clinton's emails and public airing of that investigation, was always a target. While he (of course) praised the Director and the FBI for the Clinton email investigation during the campaign he also criticized them for leaks. That continued.

Yep. The FBI was investigating the Russia thing. But they also had many other investigations on. The most surprising thing in all this is the memo from Rosenstein who everyone on both sides seems to respect - and the focus on the Clinton investigation, which I hope we can agree was screwed up. I mean, we don't hear from the FBI director about other ongoing investigations.

I guess for me the only question is: was a motivation for firing comey rooted in these botched investigations and leaks on the fact that there is an ongoing investigation into Trump/Russia times (which I assume will continue with Comey gone). Personally, in my opinion, I am glad he is gone and I hope and quality law enforcement officially or quality prosecutor gets the job. we need to be able to depend on the FBI for quality investigations not photo ops.

I have never seen a more guilty move other then the end of a Perry Mason TV Movie where a killer went straight at a victim with a knife. Its is obvious that when Comey asked for more resources for the Russian investigation that he was going to get fired. He did fuck up the Clinton email thing, but that story was going to get out, because the FBI has always been full of leaks. It always will be and will always will be, because everyone is motivated by something. When you have a badge, you get access to the press. If he said nothing about the email, some GOP FBI agent would have leaked it. He was in a no win situation there thanks to Weiner's investigation. He didn't get fired for leaks, he got fired for going after Trump's friends like Roger Stone who advised Trump to fire him.

The people who are going to replace him are either part of the investigation into Russia like Rudy or is a moron like Christie. All of his picks are some of the worst human beings in the world. A Climate Change denier as the head of the EPA. A woman who wants to profit from public education all the while can't spell historical figures' names correctly on their website. Comey was part of the swamp, but he wasn't as bad as the people Trump has in place.

I also hate this Fox News argument that Comey was a spotlight hog when Trump is President. Every day we are losing members of our institutions that make them neutral from parties. The FBI will now be another strong arm to the Trump administration that will start arresting people for no good reason other than they voted Democrat. The ICE is already there.

Whether or not there are actually treasonous ties to Russia within the Trump administration, firing Comey now makes it look like there are, and that this is an attempt at a cover-up. It's the Saturday Night Massacre all over again.

I seriously don't understand how the administration can be so tone-deaf on how it's going to look. Appearance isn't everything, but it's a lot of things. That's something that Barack Obama understood, it's something that George W. Bush understood, it's something that Bill Clinton understood. Obama carried himself with class, Bush was personally charming and likeable, Clinton was "one of the guys". And now we have this.

Aren't there supposed to be advisors and consultants to prevent this sort of thing from happening? PR guys? Anyone?

I have known a few self maxes - guys who run businesses but don't answer to stockholders. And they don't care what you think. A guy I know is a self made millionaire in a business where image is just about everything - but he knows what works and he does what he thinks is what he needs to do no matter what anyone else thinks. I think that's president trump too

That might be a fine way to run a non-public business, but the President does answer to stockholders, those being the citizens who voted for him (or against him), and will do so again in four years.

Given how thin-skinned Trump is being about things like Saturday Night Live, one would think that he'd take the time to ask "How are people going to react to this". Or alternately, you'd think one of his advisors would tell him "Hey, people aren't going to react well to this". What kind of conclusions can we draw from this? That Trump just acts without thinking about public perception, we can guess that. But what about his staff? Are they all incompetent, and unable to guess how things might turn out? Or are they all scared to death that if they try to go against the President that they'll be fired too?

It really isn't a good situation, no matter which situation it is. Trump has just strengthened the Russia story with his actions, and his aides are either incapable of helping him, or too frightened to try to help him. How can this get better over the next three and a half years?

Self made millionaires also tend to be self made homeless people too. Especially with the attitude that Trump has which he is untouchable. No one is untouchable. He outright said he fired Comey, because of Russia. That is obstruction of justice. We impeached Clinton over a BJ, this at least warrants the same.

The GOP has decided to die on the Trump wall due to thinking they have Gerrymandered their districts enough for 2018. They might be right, but right now 2017 has at least one swing state GOP senator up for re-election in Nevada which Hillary won. There as special House elections which use to be solid red now leaning blue or toss ups like Georgia. There is also the fact that the summer is a dead zone for the bread and circus of society. The Tea Party was pretty much made in the summers of 2009 and 2010. If he keeps pulling these tricks, you are going to see the same if its not here already.

I don't doubt it will swing democratic. In fact, it's usual after a presidential win that the other party has a win.

2010 - the republicans gained 63 seats
2002 - the republicans gained but just 8 seats - but I think we could attribute that to 9/11
1994 - the republicans gained 54 seats
1990 - The democrats gained 7 seats
1982 - the democrates gained 26 seats

so in the last 5 presidential elections (only the first election for 2 termers), except in the post 9/11 election, the other party won pretty significantly.
