Washington tends to have one good year every decade and then be either crap or 7-4 the rest of the time. More 7-4 than crap though. Sure they've been great in the past, but so has Notre Dame. It's not as easy at some schools as it used to be. I do think they can get good again, but I think it's more likely that UT and Clemson can reach that upper teir. Plus the SEC and ACC tend to get more exposure.

Washington was better for longer than you probably think, though it is understandable due to their recent EPIC SUCK. From '74 to '04 they were the winningest team in the Pac-10 - NO losing seasons for 28 years. Several Rose Bowls. Certainly NOT "either crap or 7-4 the rest of the time. More 7-4 than crap though."
If that's your opinion of what Washington used to be - that explains your position vis-a-vis UW vs. UT vs. Clemson.
Now, if you excuse me, I'll be running my knuckles over a cheese-grater.

So you say this crap about Washington, which is wrong to begin with, and ignore the fact they're usually better than Clemson every year?

I looked at their history to refresh my memory before I posted that using my handy ESPN Encyclopedia of College Football. I see a whole lot of 7-4, 6-6, 8-4 seasons with a few 11-1 or 10-2 mixed in. Of course they had their great years in 91 and 2000, but I think I was pretty accurate overall.
Maybe not "crap" but I wouldn't say they were "elite" for more than a couple of years either.

I believe the longest streak is now FSU, though they still need a seventh win this year to keep theirs going.
Originally posted by TheBucsFanIt only takes six to be bowl eligible. Is there some reason why FSU would need a seventh?
EDIT: Oh, I guess it's because two of their six wins were against FCS schools, and only one of those can count toward bowl eligibility.

Plus the ACC is going to have about 10 bowl eligible teams, possibly 11, and only 8 slots maximum.
If a bowl has to pick one team out of FSU, Virginia, North Carolina, etc., FSU can pretty much count on getting the nod unless they tank the rest of this year.
That's not to say those other teams are bad, they're obviously having good seasons so far. I just think only a couple teams in the ACC can compete with Florida State as a drawing power.

It doesn't matter in Boise, though. And like you said, they need one more win just to even talk about it. All of their games are winnable and loseable (yes, I think they can beat the Gators). It's that kind of year for the ACC.
Plus now we may not have Rolle for the Maryland game, since he has his Rhodes interview that afternoon. They are trying to get the game to be scheduled at night so he has a chance to get there. Already got approval from the NCAA to fly him via private jet if that happens.
I even read that a Maryland fan started a petition to get the late start time on his behalf. Classy move.
