And the SEC West has just been turned upside down. I figured Auburn was going to lose at some point, but wasn't it expecting it to be to Arkansas. But now Arkansas has a two game lead on Auburn (one loss, and the head to head) and LSU (2 losses). Arkansas does still have games against Tennessee and LSU but LSU still has Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama and Auburn still has Florida, Georgia and Alabama. I think the only way Arkansas losses the division is if Arkansas losses to LSU and Tennessee and LSU wins out. I don't think Auburn makes it through the season without losing again and that would put them three games behind Arkansas.

USC wins another close one, it will be interesting to see if Florida moves all the way up to #2. Although the Arkansas win over Auburn also makes the USC's blowout look better.

I'm not even a fan of the program, but the Gophers got ROBBED. That pass interference call in OT was just bullshit. Forget the "Just let them play" angle ESPN was selling after the game, that wasn't even close to being interference, Banks was playing the ball the whole way.

Then again, any team whose kicker decides to shank two extra points including missing one in OT? Probably deserves to lose.

Wow, another terrible day for officials. Gophers did indeed get jobbed. Horrible call.

And USC...maybe they would have won still but boy did Washington get screwed. That guy was done on the ground, whistle had blown and I saw six seconds on the clock. They let it run down to two, then stop Washington from hiking the ball. Refs talk forever about the time on the clock I guess, Washington players step back and are like, whaaa. Refs out of nowhere jump back, blow the whistle to start the clock and the final two seconds are gone. Bullshit.

You said back in week 3 that it didn't matter that Oklahoma got screwed because they aren't going to contend for the title anyway, so who cares if Washington and Minnesota got screwed too.

Who kidnapped Georgia and replaced them with Michigan State after they took a 24-7 lead at home?
I was wrong about Florida.
I was very wrong about Auburn. Anyone who had Arkansas outright over Auburn at Auburn really knew something.
Washington did get screwed on the clock, but, it was one of the few times in my life where I was rooting for USC, so it wasn't that bad. USC will get picked off.
Oklahoma getting robbed at Oregon loses national title significance with Oklahoma getting blasted by Texas and Oregon getting destroyed by Cal. To be fair to Oregon, the turnovers had to be expected with Cal wearing uniforms that out-uglied the Oregon home jerseys. Oregon players have to be trained to throw the ball to the ugliest jersey, thus it was a natural reaction.
The real Wake Forest returned in the 4th quarter against Clemson.
Do we need to start paying a slight bit of attention to Missouri?
As for Auburn being 3 back in the West if they lose again, I'm not sure. If LSU were to win out, Arkansas loses twice and Auburn loses once, you would have a 3-way tie with all 3 teams going 1-1 against each other. It's early October, so I'm not going to guess who wins a 3 way tie in those circumstances, particularly if the 1 loss not to each other for all 3 teams comes from outside the Western Division.

Man, Tennessee's offense looks freakin' phenomenal. It's good to have David Cutcliffe back calling the shots & boy, does it show ...

Answer me this ... Erik Ainge is completing 69% of his passes, 14 TDs, etc ... if he continues this pace, why shouldn't he be mentioned in the same breath as all of the other Heisman candidates?

Well you have to remember that losses to your team always hurts your Heisman chances and they lost to Florida very early in the season and that kind of erased the big numbers he put up against nobodies to start the season. If he does the same thing against LSU, Arkansas, and Alabama and they win all those games I'm sure he'll get into the race.

Of course, this also shows us how good Florida's defense is. Ainge is averaging nearly 300 yards per game in the non-Florida games but only had 183 against Florida.

Speaking of Florida, where is the Heisman talk for Leak who has almost as good as number as Ainge while not playing every play and beating more good teams than anyone so far? ESPN's panel of "experts" still has him behind Brady Quinn and Calvin Johnson, he should be fourth at the very worst but should probably actually be 2nd. Hell, if he beats Auburn I don't see why he shouldn't be ahead of Troy Smith too.

Hey, something we agree on! I was listening to the radio at work and the play-by-play went "Schackelford down at the 15 with five seconds...four...three...two...and now they stop the clock." They were sure they were going to reset it at four or five but didn't. Dammit.

Mizzou looks really good so far, they've quietly become 6-0. They play Oklahoma and at Nebraska still, then, if they somehow manage that, will play Texas in the Big XII title game. If they do run the table, and I don't think it's out of the question, I'll be interested in seeing where they finish.

Also, I don't know what to think of Arkansas. Are they a legit contender in the SEC, or did Auburn just not show up? I guess we'll see how the Razorbacks do against Tennessee and LSU later this year. If Arkansas can win one of those games and also beat Ole Miss, Miss St. and S. Carolina, they will go to the title game, most likely to face Florida unless the Gators lose to Georgia (or I guess UF losing to Auburn and S. Carolina is also a possibility).

I can't recall if I've said this before on this forum but I've been saying it in real life all season and I'll say it again now:

Georgia. Is not. Good.

For the love of God, take them out of the Top 25 immediately. Please.

But see I wanted OU to lose and I wanted USC to lose so it's different.

Being in Missouri I suppose I should comment on the Tigers. They aren't there yet. Sure they have done a heck of a job and are better than they've been in the past. The defense is definatly for real and the offense is young but solid. That said they don't have the talent overall yet to match up with the top of the Big 12. While I wouldn't be totally shocked to see them take out OU, it would be a bit suprising still. Nebraska they can definatly beat.

Let's remember Tech is the only somewhat ok them they've played and they didn't exactly blow everyone else out. They are a top 25 team which is saying something for Mizzou. Nice to see.

Leak's problem is his own fans don't respect him enough for what he's done. He's a hell of a QB and they could care less. I would definatly have him ahead of Quinn at this point, but I don't get a vote so whatever.

Like most things ESPN is just blowing that out of proportion. They even put up a poll on ESPN.com asking who should start between Leak and Tebow because they thought there was actually a question about it, but the voters replied with 95% in favor for Leak. Yeah there were some morons booing when Tebow came out of the game against Kentucky but everyone made sure to cheer for Leak whenever he came into the LSU game.

Even if it were true that the Gators fans are against him then that's actually another reason FOR him, I mean how many player would succeed with the opposing fans and the home fans cheering against them?

At this point, I'm starting to think Arkansas is a good team. Their QB play is spotty with Mustain, true, but McFadden and Jones are a solid 1-2 combo; USC's blowout was helped by McFadden being injured for the game. That being said, at worst they'll lose twice in-conference for 9-3. By Hog standards, that's a good year - and all their important skill position players (save Marcus Monk) are back next year.

Well I was dead wrong about VaTech.

But a few weeks ago I did warn you guys about Matt Grothe (sports.espn.go.com):

Nobody expected USF quarterback Matt Grothe to emerge as a dynamic two-way threat this soon. The redshirt freshman wasn't even the starter for the opener against McNeese State, but he replaced Pat Julmiste in that game and sparked the first of three straight comeback victories. Grothe ranks ninth in the country in total offense (275.3 yards per game). He has passed for 1,230 yards and eight touchdowns and run for 422 yards and seven touchdowns, accounting for more than 70 percent of the Bulls' offense. USF (4-2, 1-1) is only a few plays away from being unbeaten.

Lookout nation, the Bulls are barnstorming to a town near you! (but only because they can't get anyone to play them in Tampa...)

CBS, FOX and NBC - pay an average of $1.03 billion per year for their packages. ESPN - pays $1.8 billion a year for it's perenially crappy scraps. But they can just charge every cable household an extra $2 per month next year.
