How was it a bush league timeout? I like how USC fans (not saying you, I don't know what team you are) are defending Pete yet when someone 'runs it up' on them the sky is falling. UCLA had 3 timeouts and were down 14. They were theoretically still in the game. It's bush league to do it two weeks after you whine that someone did it to you, especially using the same exact line the previous coach used in the post game interview!
Maryland finishes the season 2-10. What a disaster of a season.
- South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida all easily defeat their ACC rivals (although GTech made it a game in the end). Dammit.
- That's about it really, except for the fact I'd have to think Boise is making a BCS game now after Oklahoma State loses to OU 27-0. The only other contenders are Iowa and PSU (not bad for a down year in the B10!) and only 2 teams can come from a conference. Assuming a Boise win next week, they're almost assured of a BCS slot now.
Last defensive play call by Charlie Weis is for his defense to lay down. Fitting. And yes, it was the right call, but still fitting. Chaos seemed like it had some life in the Texas and Alabama games. If A@M could have only stopped them once when it was a 3 point game, pandoras box may have opened. Thought Florida State would at least show up against Florida. Sad way to see Bowden go out.
After reviewing the situation, I don't have a problem with either on-field decision.
UCLA had 3 timeouts remaining going into that drive. They could have conceivably forced a 3 and out and gotten the ball back with maybe 40 seconds left. Down 14 is obviously a long shot, but it's not impossible.
From USC's perspective, if the other team hasn't given up (as shown by the timeout), then they shouldn't give up either. The play call was actually a little risky, as an interception or a sack and fumble on the QB would have put UCLA in a better position than they were in previously. A run or a short pass that could net you a first down was the safer call, but whatever.
What looked like the USC coaches directing their players to celebrate it up was the part that went past the line.

Had Ponder been healthy, I have no doubt they would have. Oh well, we'll find out if Bowden is staying this week i've heard.
Yeah, I kinda hated to see the jump ball fail for once...even though Hernandez was tackled. ...(kidding, I can't really complain about that game at all).
As a college football fan, I hate to see someone like Bowden go out like he is, but as a Florida fan, I like that he is leaving sub .500 in the series.
Charlie's demise is mostly self-inflicted due to hiring and recruit people for the defense. I still don't know how you can score almost 25-38 points in a college game and go .500. I don't see ND taking a bowl and if they do it will be another Christmas Eve game. We can finally play the Florida/Bama game and get it over with, so the loser can embarass themselves against TCU or Boise St. Texas will breeze by Nebraska after almost shitting the bed this week. The Pittsburgh radio station the last two weeks were singing Pitt's praises now if they go for lose two straight to miss the BCS, I doubt we will keep hearing those praises. Iowa had better get the BCS or the system is more flawed then any of us thought if PSU gets that spot.
It really depends on whether any upsets happen in the conference championship games. I know you've said Texas will breeze by Nebraska, but no game is a guarantee. If they lose, does the national championship become SEC champ vs. TCU? The Rose Bowl will be Ohio State vs. Pac-10 champ, but is that Oregon or Oregon State? Oregon State is out of the BCS unless they win the Pac-10, but Oregon probably makes it in as an at-large if they lose.
What are people hearing about Boise State? Assuming they don't somehow leapfrog TCU, then they have to rely on a bowl selecting them to an at-large spot. What are the odds that a BCS bowl would take Boise State over any other available school from a major conference?
We have 16 teams with a shot at making a BCS bowl, the top 14 in the rankings as well as Oregon State and Clemson.
If I were a voter, if Oregon beats Oregon St. then Boise St. should move up. They put a conference champ and beat them bad. TCU has really nothing to hang their hats as far as that goes. TCU is Cinderalla this year even, because they are shiny and new. If anyone has a real tough case to make its going to be Cincy. Pitt losing means if they win which I don't think they will, its a devalued win when they needed to beat a top ten team to move up in the BCS before the bowl selection. This year maybe the year where the non-BCS bowls are more intriguing then the BCS games. I do think the winner of Florida/Alabama vs. Texas if they win will pop a huge rating.

No, Oregon is barely in top 14 now and a loss would surely knock them out as a 3-loss team.
There are no schools from major conferences that can leapfrog Boise now. Boise is in assuming Nebraska does not beat Texas. That's the only way Boise won't be in a BCS game now.
Also, Boise State getting snubbed would subject the BCS to another major round of criticism and possibly some heat from Congress.
Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.
Tomorrow is the day. Bobby has been told he can come back as a figurehead with no real control for one more year or retire. He'll meet again with admistrators in the morning to give his decision, and it'll likely be to retire.
Much as I'm looking forward to finally moving on, I really hope he coaches the bowl game and gets a win.
JJD's Playoff Bracketology That Doesn't Mean Anything™
Methodology: 20 teams. Eleven conference champions automatically qualify. Nine at-large teams. Teams ranked and seeded using six BCS ranking computers, but I take Sagarin's and Massey's ORIGINAL ranking formulae, NOT their BCS-adjusted ones. I try to place the bracket strictly by ranking but I will move a team up or down a spot to avoid two same-conference teams playing as long as possible.
- With the conference championship games this week the last automatic bids will get sorted out. Currently, the MAC and Conference USA games are set to be elimination games to finalize teams 18-20.
- Oklahoma State's to Oklahoma drops them from 15th to out of the tourney, giving the last current at-large spot to Oregon State. Oregon/Oregon State is essentially the Pac-10 championship game, but Oregon probably doesn't need to win to stay in the bracket, while the Beavers likely need a win or they are out.
- Pitt's loss to West Virginia moves them from solidly in (9th last week) to likely needing to win against Cincinnati to make the bracket.
- A Pitt loss and/or Oregon State loss could push BYU and/or Cal into the bottom end of the bracket, provided Cal wins Saturday at Washington.
- A Nebraska or Clemson conference championship upset will knock out a lower-end at-large team, as Texas and Georgia Tech are likely in (Texas, definitely) even if they are beat Saturday.

Before printing the Eagles Super Bowl T-Shirts, remember that the Giants O-Line is; if I'm in a generous mood, hideous, the linebackers are atrocious, and the secondary sucks. But, at least Big Blue will have a high first round pick in '05.
