It's Valentine's Day, the Lovely Future Mrs. Hegemon is overseas, so I'm watching lucha...

Mistico welcomes us with a recorded promo, and then it's time for a minis match:

Pequeno Violencia, Pequeno Pierroth, and Pequeno Guerrero (rudos) vs. Shockercito, Mascarita Dorada, & Bam Bam. Shockercito's look amuses me. I so hope there's a bit somewhere of him only being 400% Guapo or something. The announcer refers paradoxically to "los pequenos grandes." (And I'm sure there's some way to properly get that tilde over the n, but I'm not that good with the HTML.

First fall: The announcers are already talking about the main event. Shockercito starts us off and gets a nice rana on PV. These minis are bigger than the ones I'm used to seeing, with the possible exception of Mascarita Dorada. PP comes in with a legdrop on Shockercito to get the rudos going. Shockercito is knocked out of the ring, and MD starts bouncing around like a ping-pong ball. He hits some high-flying moves including a rope walk into a rana. Bam Bam flies out of the ring, and PP flings PQ onto the faces outside of the ring. Shockercito does a a somersault plancha from the middle of the rope, and MD ties himself around Peq. Pierroth for a submission. (about 5:30)

Second fall: Shockercito works over PP, and then that little blue-gorilla mascot CMLL has gets involved with a splash. Shockercito goes for the pin but the rudos break it up. After some brawling MD finds himself alone in the ring with all three rudos--the vibe here is very much junior-high-school bullies ganging up on a small kid. Peq. Violencia holds MD in a piledriver position for the others to kick him. Shockercito comes in to save MD, but ends up triple-teamed himself, and PV gets the pin. (3:50) Before the break, PG grabs the mascot; MD tries to save him and again finds himself outnumbered.

Third fall: Joined in progress as MD is getting beaten down again. Shockercito gets in and is held in the ropes and kicked by PV. BB comes in and gets a triple kick for his troubles. PV climbs the ropes to splash Bam Bam, but MD kicks him off. MD jumps all around PV's body, knocks him to the floor, and hits a rana there. They come back in, and MD hits a sunset flip for the pin. I guess they're really short of time, because the "Third Fall" graphic came up as they were counting the last pinfall--that sure takes the drama out of it. (3:50 shown) Watching Mascarita Dorada bounce around was fun, and the schoolyard-bully vibe worked in places, but the match overall was nothing special.

Astro Boy vs. Caligula (rudo). One fall here. Caligula does a Roman gladiator gimmick, which makes sense. Astro Boy hits a big somersault out of the ring early--impressive hang time. Caligula comes back with a pescado. AB misses a plancha, but ends up hitting a backbreaker out of nowhere for the win. (2:50) Didn't do much for me.

Marco Corleone, Dos Caras Jr., & Mistico vs. Hijo de Lizmark, Ultimo Guerrero, & Atlantis (rudos). Hijo de Lizmark is also known as Lizmark Jr., which makes sense ("hijo de" means "son of") although there are some cases where there's a difference (Hijo del Rey Misterio is a different person from Rey Misterio Jr.). Marco Corleone is Mark Jindrak. We get some short pre-recorded promos from Dos Caras Jr. and Ultimo Guerrero, presumably recapping the hostilities between them we were seeing last week.

First fall: Joined in progress with Mistico getting worked over by the rudos--Caras comes in, and hits a big enziguiri on UG. Everyone brawls, and DC tries to get revenge by taking UG's mask--he settles for kicking him, knocking him out of the ring, and hitting a flying headbutt. With him out of the ring, though, Liz hits a superkick on Marco for the fall. (2:44 shown)

Second fall: Mistico controls Atlantis and hits a 619. DC gets some sweet, sweet revenge by beating on UG for a while, until Liz hits him with a dropkick. Marco dispatches him and takes control. Mistico hits a nice tope suicida. Caras and UG end up in the ring again, and UG grabs Caras' mask and pins him. (4:37)

DC gets the mic and we close with a dueling promo, which is not good for a Spanish-impaired recapper. Caras wants a one-on-one match. I think it was UG who brings up the idea of putting the mask on the line--perhaps a mask vs. belt match? (I'm not sure if Caras has a belt, but it would make sense.) I know I heard UG say he is the real champion, more or less. They seem to be building up a feud between these two well. The match was pretty good.

Anyway, we end with footage of a female fan copping a feel of Jindrak's butt, which I find amusing. There was also a cute clip in there of a very young boy imitating Jindrak's Rick-Rude-like gyrations.

Pequeno Guerrero should be Pequeno Warrior. He's a mini Black Warrior, except he's still in Black Warrior's old (with mask) look. Actually, so was Shockercito, until he dropped his mask about a month ago (and had the dyed hair the next day.)

Really? I thought it was pretty good. You don't get nuttyness like Shockercito taking that monkey flip off the apron into a headscissors on the floor.

    Didn't do much for me.

Me neither. They really should've just aired the two dives and the finish as highlights because there's nothing more to it

Fun fact: Astro Boy is Mistico's brother (though we're supposed to not know this - Mistico's back story is being an orphan, after all.) Mistico used to wrestle as Astro Boy himself before getting the new story/life.

and let me tell you, it's quite annoying when there's two of those in the same match. Some of those may be here soon..

Ultimo's the heavyweight champ. Dos' is arguing he hasn't been acting like a champion, while Ultimo is pointing out he's won, so no title match for him. UG opted to give Dos a singles match next week, where Dos will get a title match if he wins (at a date TBD).

I knew I should have studied harder in Spanish class! B^) Thanks once again for filling me in. OK, so "I...AM...THE CHAMPION!" makes a lot more sense now.

BTW, I meant to mention that I'll probably be out next Saturday night, so likely no recap unless I'm feeling inspired Wednesday night for the rerun.

I for one am glad the whole "We've got POP!" nonsense is over. Spike TV or not, they won't be the 'first' network for men ...
