I woulda bet the WWE signed Sonnen before this happened. I'm surprised.

I think Punk will excel as a commentator more than a fighter.

I wonder what the booking repurcussions might be for AJ.

Seeing as Vince is a very vindictive guy I don't see Aj ever winning the Divas belt again, and She might be in for alot of losses for a while. Is it fair for vince to punish Aj for what Punk has done no but since he can't do anything to punk Aj might feel the wrath for him.

Will he still use Cm Punk in UFC? I get he owns the name but doesn't everyone there use their real names for legitimacy

Punk won't win his first fight. So, it makes sense for UFC to get him now. In his press conference, Punk stated he would like to go 170, but 185 is where he will end up. He also seems to have no delusions of saying he is going to get the belt. I think this is something he wanted to do for awhile and he should at least give it a shot.

So many things are going through my lizard brain. Like the fact that MOST WRESTLERS DO TERRIBLY IN MMA. Ask Del Rio, Liger, Takayama, etc. The article drops Batista, Brock, and Lashley so anything is possible. Plus Punk is getting into MMA late in his years with injuries from years of wrestling(including multiple concussions). His mountain to climb is gonna be steep and cold, old fans will become his inquisitors and spew hate-filled derision at his daily, but I'll be there wearing the CM Punk banner (my Best in the World shirt) on his debut in the octagon.

I'm just worried is all.

Good for CM Punk. If he is really mad at WWE, then this is a reasonable course of action to take. It is win/win for him. Either Punk wins, and his ego gets padded more, or he loses and hurts WWE's image by showing that one of their highest profile former champions is unable to win a real fight.

I guess these last couple weeks might be a bridge too far, but Ape has skirted disaster with Punk reprisals for a whole year now. Going back to the Michelle Beadle thing, it seems like they're stuck trying not to look vindictive and court controversy than they are with getting their sweet revenge.

The fact that Eve Torres will be training Punk for fighting is also a good reminder that the pushed WWE women are very willing to retire in their prime.

I don't watch UFC, but if the original green Power Ranger fights CM Punk (foxsports.com) I may have to pony up.

Good for Punk. Even better if they entertain the idea of getting JDF for his debut.

I'm all for a UFC that just books my action figures against each other.

Punk is a smart guy. First do the podcast, create a shitload of controversy. Opens up an online t-shirt store that does monster sales (and crashes the site) and now this.

He's striking while he's hot again.
I'm no expert at all regarding MMA but Punk seems like a guy that will give it 110% and succeeds at what he wants to do.

It's a smart move for UFC because a lot more (wrestling) eyes will be upon them for his first fights.
If he wins, they can start printing money, if he loses it's Punk that looks bad.

And I don't think it'll affect WWE much.
If he loses, they can go "see? loud mouth has-been" and if he wins it'll show that WWE guys can go.

Punk says he's looking at fighting in middleweight (185 pounds) or welterweight (170 pounds). The still-there WWE Punk page (wwe.com) lists him as just under 218.

Either he's cutting FORTY POUNDS or he's never been near 220 pounds, and now I have to question everything the WWE has told me my entire life.

So what do we think he is at walking-around weight? If he's really 6'2", then 180 sounds very slim. I'm 177 at 5'11, and I have the same amount of muscle mass as Ralphus.

I think it's a good move for UFC because it will get a ton of eyes on their product, and if they didn't take him, Bellator would have. I don't know if it's a great move for Punk, but I suspect he will take it very seriously and is very aware of his limitations (age, experience, injuries).

If it's me, I put him on a major PPV with whoever the up-and-coming fighters are at the time - the guys with real star potential (Connor McGregor, Paige VanZant, etc.) - and use Punk's name to attract wrestling fans to the next generation of UFC stars. And then you just have to pray that the right people win their fights.

It also benefits Lesnar because his value to WWE just went up. If he jumps to UFC, it will look like they stole two of WWE's top guys. (I've heard that Del Rio is interested in fighting again, and if I'm UFC, I sign him up too just to add to the perception.)

Not really. PPV numbers aren't declining because there's something wrong with the PPV model. They're declining because UFC has had a lack of compelling personalities in the last eighteen months or so, with vitrually every champion getting sidelined with injuries. WWE's PPV numbers didn't decline due to the PPV model either, they consistently conditioned their audience for almost ten straight years that nothing meaningful happens at any event other than Royal Rumble and Mania.

CM Punk is as much 218 lbs as Shawn Michaels was "220 lbs" or Edge being "240" lbs.

I think Tommy the Green Ranger is looking to pitifully revive his career. He's been practicing martial arts since the 80's, has been slumming it fighting in non-ufc/bellator events against bar fighters because UFC/Bellator didn't want him. Now a hot celebrity is hired and Tommy wants in UFC so badly and is raising a campaign to be his first opponent.

If he were notable enough a celebrity or a fighter I'm sure he could of reached out to Dana at anytime and gotten a fight against someone with his years of "experience". Punk's getting someone at this skill level. This reeks of someone hoping to resurrect a long dead 15 minutes of fame. See you at the next MMPR reunion.

I think you're wrong.

If you search on Youtube for Jason David Frank's (his real name, not Tommy) fights, you'll find that he's a legitimate badass. He's a great martial artist to boot. I think you're jaded because all you see is a former childrens' TV show star.

I have no doubt in my mind that there are a hundreds of MMA fighters who are desperate to get into the UFC - after all, they are the best league, or group, to fight for. However, if someone walks in off the street and takes a spot without any real experience, can you not blame someone for getting upset?

If JDF and Punk have a fight, I don't see it going longer than a round, with JDF completely kicking Punk's ass.

A "legitimate badass" doesn't want to fight someone with no experience. You got that term confused with "douchebag with chip on his shoulder".

I don't recall if it was on the post-fight show on FS1 or the press conference he did after the PPV, but Punk was asked about being billed as weighing 218 in WWE. He said that after he quit he was around 215. When the whole UFC thing came about, he started working out like crazy again and has dropped 15 pounds, so right now he's walking around at about 200 pounds.
