| #1 Posted on 14.2.02 1455.48 | I know cigarettes are bad for you and all that crap. But I'm pretty sure there is others who smoke on the board.
Just wondering what the prices are like where you guys live?
They're up to $7.25 here and I heard they could be going up more.

| #2 Posted on 14.2.02 1508.28 | A pack?! Great googly moogly.
There is a brand here that is like $1.05 a pack, but best we can tell its the tobacco that's fell onto the factory floor and been swept up and repackaged.
I assume, though, you're probably talking about Marlboro level stuff. Last I checked they were about $3.50 a pack here. Of course, "here" is in one of those major tobacco states, so I'm sure your mileage will vary.

Marlboro's are about 3.50 a pack when there not on sale. Lately, they've had a 5 pack deal for 11 bucks, which I pounce on when I can. If I can't get those, I usually settle for Doral Lights for around 2.39 a pack.

7.25/pack must be the price in one of those liberal driven euphorian states. We pay around 3.75 here.

Uhhhhh...not quite a state but a province.
Marlboro's are about 3.50 a pack when there not on sale.
On Sale that's unheard of here. I can only wish.
Curious if other Canadians can let me know what the prices are like where they live?

| #8 Posted on 14.2.02 1859.17 | Instant Rating: 7.87 | It's $6.75 in Quebec. I don't smoke - but I have friends who do and are none to pleased.
I had a roomate two years ago, and we'd go to the store alot, where he bought smokes. I may be dreaming, but I'm fairly sure they were around $4 in the fall of 1999?
The increase is nuts, and while I don't USUALLY offer pity on smokers, I do on those who are trying to quit and simply can't.

Everything is more expensive in Canadia in comparrison to the US. Buy they're dollar is less than, and I would assume they make a more comarable sallery to the prices they have. Shit, in 1992 we drove to Alaska, and gas was like $1.90 for a LITRE. That less than a friggin gallon.
Needless to say I was outraged.

| #10 Posted on 14.2.02 2119.29 | I remember in the late eighties/early nineties when Canada taxed the living hell out of cigs and had to stop because the smuggling problem got so bad (hell, I always brought cigs in for my buddies). But I remember that the highest they got up to was like $6.50.
I quit about 2 years ago and they were about $3.00 - $3.50 in Wisconsin. But I think they're around $4.00 or so here on the East Coast. I'm not really sure though.

USD1 is about CAD1.60 these days. It's like the metric dollar!
So we're talking about $4.50.

I checked, Z. Although, before I checked, I nearly pooped myself when I saw $7.25/pack..."$7.25??? These better be the best cigarettes I've ever had....[Takes puff]....you got lucky."
Out here in Taxachusetts (or Assachusetts, if you prefer), I paid $5.25 for a pack of P-Funks a couple weeks back. Median price is about $4.50, though.

| #15 Posted on 15.2.02 0627.44 | In Mexico, the cost of cigs is about 1/2 of what it is here. and you can bring back 2 cartons per person at a time. My Bro and his wife go down there at least twice a month to buy them. A carton is $12-16 depending on brand. The best way to make sure you are getting the real thing vs. the inferior made in Mexico product is to go to a stateside duty free store and do their thing. what you do is go in, buy your tax free items, sign a form, go across the border (they take you there in a van) and then come back to the U.S. , "importing" the cigs back home.

| #16 Posted on 15.2.02 1042.44 | You can go to a reservation here and save like $15 a carton just because you don't have to pay the taxes there. But it almost costs that much in gas just to drive there.
