I respect the hell out of him as a performer. But, if he was truly responsible for the intentional death of his own child, then fuck him.
It had to be said
Respect the performer
Despise the human being who could murder a 7 year old child
I hope it is not true, but it seems more likely. Why are people going wacko these days????
Maybe somebody should look into the kind of brain damage that pro wrestlers inflict upon themselves to entertain a crowd? Wouldn't be surprised, if, in the years to come, we end up seeing a lot of guys that started in the 90s end up having scrambled brains like Andre Watters. All those chairshots and working a hardcore style can't possibly be a good thing. Andre Watters was the result of 16 games a year...who knows what happens when somebody goes through the same night after night...

That doesn´t make any sense, does it?
Following your theory Mick Foley´s wife and kids are in real life danger right now!? (Just one example)
Dave Meltzer reported that the tapings are going on tomorrow, business as usual with no tributes or any continuation of the Mr. McMahon angle.
Personally, I'd have cancelled the tapings tomorrow, if only because there's no way the crowd or the wrestlers are going to be into the fake fighting after this.
If nothing else, this suggests that WWE know that Benoit did indeed do what he's suspected of.
Fuck.
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

How does it not make sense? I'm not saying that every wrestler who has ever worked a hardcore style is going to end up with some sort of brain damage. Though we've had more than a few people who would be prime candidates to develop some sort of brain damage down the road die already. Mick Foley might live the rest of his life perfectly fine, though he'll never be able to put a pen behind his ear because he's hardcore. Neurological problems are not going to develop in every guy to lace up a pair of boots. Maybe the wrestling industry will luck out and it'll only affect 75% of the wrestlers.
(The 75% number comes, by the way, from the AMA, who has studied the long term affects of repeated blows to the head for professional boxers. They say that 75% of pros who have had more than twenty pro fights show signs of brain deterioration. Some luck out and it just affects their memory, while others go on like Ali or Freddie Roach...)
Shit. How terribly pathetic is it that all our wrestling heroes are far more screwed up than we are?
How can a sport that is so much a part of us, that resonates so deeply with us, twist and corrupt its players so completely and deeeply away from all that is good, human and decent?
Well i'm certainly not ready to jump on board with the brain damage theory but to be fair Mic Foley seems to be abnormal when it comes to taking punishment so I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it effected other people but not him.
Considering the NFL is looking heavily into the whole concussion/brain damage thing I'd say there could be something to it. Add a healthy dose of steroids or whatever kind of enhancers and you could end up with quite the rewired circuit board.
I have a 7 year old son. I can't even imagine.....
The last wrestling video I purchased was Chris Benoit's DVD back when it came out.
Just waiting for more details now like everyone else.

Look, guys - not that I feel any better or worse than anyone about this - but don't blame wrestling for the result (whatever it ends of being) in the Benoit case. I was a cop. Domestic disturbances happen all the time and this situation, while chilling, is not all that rare, unfortunately. Wait for the aftermath - there was some terrible thing that happened in the family and things snapped. It happens. Seriously.
I agree. Benoit showed no signs in the past of the business getting to him for whatever reason. It seems to be that he lived and pretty provate life with his wife and son. Perhaps their marriage was not as strong. Maybe she asked for a divorce and he lost it. Who knows. But for once, I will not pin any of the blame on the WWE or wrestling. They are handling this sensitive issue with the grace and class that is not normally associated with the WWE.
As for domestic violence, it is so common that it is scary. There was a case in my town a while back that shocked everyone as the husband in question was the unofficial town mayor. It did not end in death, but his wife was beaten pretty badly. It came to light that their marriage was close to ending and he did not want his public image tarnished with divorce. When his wife (now ex) presented him with the divorce papers, he hit her in the head with a lamp and then beat her. My father in law was a cop and he told me once he lost count of how many domestic distrubance calls he has been on.
So sad.
Fry crack corn and I don't care Leela crack corn I still don't care Bender crack corn and he is great Take that you stupid corn!
"just because you ARE a character does not mean you HAVE character.."
Perhaps I'm trying not to believe that Benoit would kill his own son, but calling it a "double murder-suicide" doesn't have to mean that the same person inflicted both murders.
One possible scenario: Nancy kills Daniel, intentionally or not. In a rage, Chris kills Nancy. When the rage settles, Chris realizes (1) he's just killed his wife, and (2) with her dead, he can't prove he didn't kill his son as well. He spends the better part of two days trying to wrap his mind around that and ultimately fails, killing himself.
Of course, the initial ruling could turn out to be completely wrong as well.

P.S. (6/26 2350): Unfortunately, I didn't know about the updates to the timeline at the time I posted this message. I was still hoping there might be a reason for this that didn't involve a father (allegedly) murdering his son.

The details already known indicate that Nancy died first.

I rememeber just last week reading an interview that honky tonk man had saying he wouldn't write a book because no one would believe how many of the performers where emotional and psychological train wrecks waiting to happen.
I know if someone said that Benoit was like that, I wouldn't have believed him.
I can't believe a man could bring himself to kill a 7-year-old innocent child ... his child ... As much of a fan I was of Chris Benoit, the wrestler, I hope Chris Benoit, the human, has a lot sunscreen for where he might be headed ...
I wrote this elsewhere, so I'm just going to repost it here.
"In an attempt to NOT think about Benoit, I have to say that this ruins wrestling to a degree. WWE got great mainstream pub for the Donald Trump angle, and they were working on the Jackass angle. We were possibly heading to another boom period, at least with everything but PPV buys.
This just puts the kibosh on all of that. Like HammerVa said, the media is going to crucify WWE, justly or unjustly. Wrestling has probably just been taken back 15 years, and the impetus for this involved one of the greatest performers in the business of pro wrestling. That is just crazy for me to think about."

Bill Lash was a law school professor of mine. An insanely smart guy (degrees from Harvard & Yale) who held the prestigous position of United States Assistant Secretary of Commerce in the current President's administration, Professor Lash was in his early 40s & was one of the truly bright rising stars in the legal community. When my class graduated, he was the guy voted by the students to give the faculty speech at the graduation ceremony.
Then, about a year ago -- for reasons that make absolutely no sense -- he went home, took a shotgun, killed his autistic son, and took his own life.
Obviously, given the high number of wrestlers who fail to live to 50, the WWE needs a stronger internal support system... but in situations like this one appears to be that are just SO horrific & SO nonsensical, I don't know if anything can be done. And unless there's some sort of note, I don't think the whole truth will ever come out.

I have to disagree completely. Why would the actions one of its employees takes hurt the company or the business? That doesn't make any sense. It didn't hurt the NFL or Hertz when OJ (allegedly) did what he did, right?
I'm with AWA on this one. You can't blame "the business" for this. Chris Benoit could've been a doctor or a mailman or a bartender or whatever, and this could have still happened.

After last night’s absolutely horrendous crock of a main event, it is clear WCW needs a completely fresh direction. And tonight, we’re going to start taking babysteps in a better direction. Let’s turn things over to ...
