Seriously, wrestling promos on Benoit are worthless. Most fucks doesn't mean you're the most disgusted by Chris Benoit committing murder. Call me crazy but I think everyone agrees that's indefensibly horrifying. It kind of goes without saying.
Originally posted by DirtyMikeSeaverIs it really wrong to think that a guy, who according to Meltzer's site and AP, used an electrical cord to strangle his wife, and then, the next day, killed his son, was an evil fuck?
What if he had a mental illness? Or was under the influence of drugs? Or had a brain tumour? Or was suffering brain damage as long-term effects from a series of concussions? Is he still evil?
Understand that I'm not saying this is definitely the case. But I can't see a person in his right mind doing what Benoit did. If it's revealed that there was something wrong with him - well, obviously there was SOMETHING - but... you know what I mean. If there was a medical condition or something, would he still be thought of as evil? Would we be finally able to watch old Benoit matches with the same mixture of sad and happy memories that we might watch Eddie Guerrero matches with?
I'm not trying to be a dick and not really talking to you specifically - just getting this out there.
Originally posted by gaterI'm wondering how much information the wrestlers had before they gave their testimonials... Many spoke specifically about being a good father. Lawler's insistence on making sure to talk about Daniel and Nancy makes me feel like he knew more to the story as well.
I very much doubt they knew anything. After all, the first reports that police were treating the case as a murder/suicide didn't come out until AFTER Raw had already started broadcasting.
There is a special place in hell for people who kill children, especially their own. After all the times Vince was criticized for not doing the right thing and having the show go on despite death, the one time he actually halts the show it turns out to be for a double murderer. Can't do the right thing even when he tries. USA Network must be thrilled about airing a 3 hour salute for Benoit right now. Put aside steroids and their derivatives for a moment, because they aren't getting out of the business. However, does Vince now need to have regular cat-scans for his personnel with baselines established? If they show during the autopsy that Benoit had suffered severe brain trauma, couldn't a lawyer for an estate looking to make money break out numerous video tapes of scripted diving headbutts that scrambled Benoit's brain, including one within 72 hours of these events beginning. When people sue after a death, they go for where the money is, contributory negligence perhaps.

Yes, no matter how many good things we could say, could have said, and could had said this is the worst.
When a person, public figure or not just like AWArulz was pointing out in his it happens daily posts, stoops this low a point is just inexcusable.
Yet as a close friend of mine just pointed out we don't know what he was going through. That's not an excuse for him to commit such action but we never walked in his shoes either.
If anything I hope the rest of the family can get some closure, the WWE, and us the fans so we can move on from this sad event.

TMZ.com is reporting more details on the Benoit Family tragedy. According to a TMZ source, Benoit was texting friends during the Vengeance pay-per-view and may have watched the event with his son who may have still been alive at the time.
I'm not blaming you for posting it (although I do question 1bob), but TMZ sources don't count and I'm pretty sure both the death timelines and text message stories contradict that. If I'm mistaken then I apologize.
I have watched Benoit for many years, and right now the point is he killed 2 people. Does that make him evil, mabe does that take away that at Werstlemina 20 we all cheered for this man as he won the world title? no. If he would have let people in and asked for help instead of how he was maybe his wife and son would be alive and Benoit in rehab.
Also Their has to me more to this. I mean what, he kills his wife, kills his son, goes to Vengeance ready to fight CM Punk and what.. remembers what he did and comes to the logic that the answer is to off himself?

Point of order: "Pre-meditated killer" is a long ways from "deliberation vs. rage". They're not asserting he planned it weeks in advance to try to get away with it. They're just trying to make the point that "roid rage" per se isn't consistent with what appears to have happened.

You're right.

Especially when "passed a WWE wellness test" just means that their testosterone levels were at something like 10:1 (I'm walking out the door and going from memory) and that they had proper prescriptions for any (large) amount of steroids.
I don't know about anyone else here, but I think I'm going through the seven stages with this whole ordeal, and I'm just passing denial. WWE will likely be made to regret their defiant "this isn't about steroids" stance, unless they want to split hairs and say that HGH isn't the same thing.
Long-term, persistent steroid usage (even with a prescription) can't be something the AMA would recommend in all but the most severe circumstances, can it? I wonder if the medical records will be opened to get a sense of the history, if toxicology shows positive?

If they came out with this statement saying Benoit "tested negative" or whatev, when all they meant was that there wasn't enough in him to raise red flags on their not exactly Olympic level strictness testing shamockery, then Vince has gone coo-coo for cocoa puffs.
Surely, surely, they would have gotten it confirmed that he didn't have anything in him before they said that. Even though it flies in the face of all common sense when you look at Benoit, surely. SURELY.

3. Toxicology tests have not even been completed, so there is no current evidence that Benoit even had steroids or any other substance in his body. In that regard, on the last test done on Benoit by WWE's independently administered drug testing program, done on April 10, 2007, Benoit tested negative.
Word-for-word.
EDIT: I actually agree with most of the rest of the press release. I think Benoit had thoughts of doing this many times, but unlike most of us at our darkest moments, he acted on them. Why HE was the different one, we will most likely never know.

I must have missed Steph's comments last night, but I just now ran into her comments on the unofficial site. Gosh she got really personal. It kind sounded like Benoit was her/HHH's only friend outside the workplace?
Vince lied? Nooo... that's not possible. Whomever misquoted the great Vince McMahon must have lied, and thus must be punished by being thrown into a boiling vat of lava. [/sarcasm]
