I have seen one Chikara DVD and I didn't really like it. You know when old wrestlers complain that cruiserweights just do flips with no psychology and aren't really having a match? I didn't understand that complaint until I watched that Chikara DVD. But I like ordering iPPVs and supporting smaller companies, so here we are.

I missed the pre-show match of El Generico vs. Jigsaw.

The iPPV opens with ring announcer Gavin Loudspeaker welcoming us to the event, followed by an original theme by Stan Bush. Yes. I might really love this show or I might really hate this.

THE COLONY (Soldier Ant & Fire Ant) d. THE YOUNG BUCKS ("Slick" Nick Jackson & "Mr. Action Replay" Matt Jackson)

With the win, the Colony won a shot at the tag titles (which are only ever called los Campeonatos de Parejas for some reason). The Bucks came to ringside with Marty Jannetty, but he never got involved and I don't think they even showed him at ringside. The match itself was actually really fun, with a lot of innovative (and a few really painful looking) moves, and a complicated but impressive ending sequence. I'd try to describe it but it involved a double Bang For Your Buck and a moonsault that hit knees and some kind of wacky rollup.

Next up, some blonde dude in a tie (but no shirt) came out, cut an imcomprehensible promo, and then ran to the back. Then they cued up some music and he came back out. Mayhaps he is his own personal ring announcer?

"THE QUEEN OF WRESTLING" SARA DEL REY d. JAKOB HAMMERMEIER

Crowd chants "Sara's gonna kill you" followed by "Happy birthday." That's nice. This was pretty one-sided, with Del Ray kicking this dude all over the place, locking him in some sort of submission, and then dumping him on his head for the win.

Vignette: Mr. Touchdown is coming... and it's good!

The Osirian Portal (Ophidian and Amasis) come out for a promo. Amasis announces his retirement due to injuries and everyone is sad. Then they have a dance party. Then Ophidian spits mist in Amasis' face and gives him a big ol' kick and here come referees to break it up. The crowd not only boos, but hisses, which is kind of hilarious. Ophidian is back in and to steal Amasis' mask. Amasis gets dragged out with a towel over his face.

Can I just say it's really hard to watch this and CFL overtime playoff football at the same time?

GREEN ANT d. TURSAS

Tursas, like Jakob Hammermeier before him, represents the BDK, a.k.a. the Bruderschaft Des Kreuzes. Yes. Also, I think he might be a viking. Green Ant, meanwhile, is an ant, the third of the evening. The ref gets splattered early on and Green Ant goes for a quick pin, but the replacement ref isn't out in time. Soldier Ant and Fire Ant drag the first ref (who is some sort of heel ref) to the back, and this becomes power and size vs. speed and agility. Green Ant hits a superplex and the crowd chants "holy poop," honouring an earlier request that everyone watch their language. Anyway, Green Ant wins by submission with something that - according to our announcers - looks like a Chikara Special, but isn't.

Intermission: the iPPV crowd gets promos about the upcoming main event from Mike Quackenbush, Eddie Kingston, Green Ant, Ultramantis Black, Claudio Castagnoli, Sara Del Rey, and others.

We also got some really annoyingly choppy promo videos, so I tuned out for a minute. When I came back, a guy in a bandleader outfit was mistreating a guy in a rabbit costume. What on Earth? The referee shares my disproval.

COLT "BOOM BOOM" CABANA d. ARCHIBALD PECK

The rabbit is Colt Cabunny, former tag partner of CP Munk. This, no surprise, is the comedy match - more so than normal - with bionic elbows, reluctant rabbit interference, wacky marching, and an instantly effective sleeper (complete with snoring and thumb-sucking). The finish comes when the rabbit grabs the bandleader's baton (not a euphemism) and levels him with it. The Colts (both human and rabbit) share a big hug and have a post-match dance party.

Ad: JoshiMania does three shows in three days: December 2, 3, and 4. No idea who's on it but I'd watch that.

ICARUS d. "THE HANDICAPPED HERO" GREGORY IRON

I gather this feud is about Iron having cerebral palsy and Icarus accusing him of faking. Not sure how I feel about this whole idea. Icarus wins with a low blow and a "Blu-Ray" - a "picture-perfect death valley driver into the corner." Oh ho, it's better than a normal DVD, I get it. Icarus whips Iron with his belt after the match. Akuma - back for the first time in 16 months, they say - tries to make the save, but his enzuigiri takes down Iron instead. Akuma gets sent away and Iron tries his best to leave under his own power.

Vignette: @MysteriumP

THE SPECTRAL ENVOY (Ultramantis Black & Hallowicked) d. ARES & TIM DONST (No-DQ match)

The loser of the fall loses more than just the match - Ultramantis Black or Hallowicked will be unmasked, Tim Donst will have his head shaved, or Ares has to give up the Eye of Tyr. Guessing on the spelling of that thing, which is an artifact that gave Ares control of Delirious from the Spectral Envoy. Yes. I think they said that Hallowicked has a move called the Go To Sleepy Hollow. And I think Tim Donst just gave Hallowicked purple nurples. Jakob Hammermeier ran in (since Ares and Donst are in the BDK), but some dude named Crossbones showed up and took him out with a move called the Friggin' Sweet Driver. Crossbones may have been PN News in a pumpkin costume. Lots of crashes into chairs and lots of big moves and lots of kickouts. Match ends when Donst walks out and Ultramantis hits the Preying Mantis Driver to Ares on a chair. Ultramantis regains the Eye of Tyr, which is some sort of thing on a chain. Perhaps it is a sacred MedicAlert bracelet. Hammermeier helps Ares to the back.

EDDIE KINGSTON d. MIKE QUACKENBUSH for the first Chikara Grand Championship

I have told this story many times, but way back when, when I first found out about Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium, a very nice Mike Quackenbush took the time to answer some of my questions about importing the game. I remember him talking about training for his first match.

Quackenbush is listed as a face on the Chikara website, and so is his cornerman, Jigsaw, but the crowd is solidly behind Kingston, who has Tommy Dreamer in his corner. Tommy's wearing a grey Chikara shirt - I don't think I've ever seen him wear anything other than black.

The match opens to crowd chants for the late Larry Sweeney. There were chants for Eddy Guerrero earlier in the show.

The match is mostly Quackenbush taking shortcuts (and occasionally outright cheating) while Kingston sells a knee injury. A bunch of the wrestlers, both heels and faces, come out to ringside to watch, which is a nice touch that makes the match feel bigger. Quackenbush misses a kneedrop from the top, allowing Kingston to turn the tide and attack Quackenbush's knee. Kingston gets the pin after a lariat, a backdrop driver, tiger suplex, and two spinning backfists. A fine pro wrestling match.

Larry Sweeney's friend and brother are here, along with Chikara's Director Of Fun (yes), to present Kingston with the Grand Championship. Hugs and chants all around. Kingston takes the mic and point at his belt, saying "this feels weird." Off-mic, Dreamer says "I never got to wear it," which got some laughs. Kingston issues an open challenge to everyone in New York or "that piece of crap they have down in Florida," specifically mentioning Punk, Cena, HHH, and AJ Styles. More chants and hugs and we're done!

The picture quality wasn't quite up there with the last ROH iPPVs, but it was pretty good for a first effort. All in all, a much more entertaining show than that DVD I watched, and at only $15, I can't imagine it not being a better value than tonight's TNA show.

thanks for posting, sounds awesome. just got in form work so i missed the whole thing. If you don't believe in Chikara yet, I highly suggest the 2 Chikarasaurus Rex DVD's from this year. The technical wrestling is awesome and the comedy stuff is what CM Punk means when he says wrestling is supposed to be fun. Archibald Peck/RD Evans is one of the most entertaining characters working today. Cabana always delivers. The one guy this show was missing is Johnny Gargano who is like a male Daizee Haze. He is one of the sickest mat wrestlers out there.
Sara Del Rey is the Bomb. I got to see here wrestle in person last month and despite the fact she is one of the best heels in the business, outside the ring she is one of the nicest people I've ever met. The shows with Kana (vs. Sara & vs. Jessie mcKay) are on their way to me & I can't wait to see them. Chikara deserves TV time much more than TNA does.

If you actually watch Impact lately you'll see that's improved by a whole lot and again they consistently draw 1.5-1.7 viewers on a weekly basis vs what's rightly or wrongly mostly know for their comedy that may turn some people off by making a mockery of it all with the slow motion wrestling or the hypnotism or whatever. This promotion has it's nice little niche but hasn't even reached ECW type levels back in the day. Hey enjoy the promotion but I doubt it will ever make it to National television nor should it.

I would say Impact is fighting Smackdown for the best wrestling show on tv many weeks as Raw is completely unwatchable most weeks.

There were talks, a few years ago, for Chikara to get TV (they were going to get TV in Italy of all places but I think that fell through), but it didn't happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Quack wanted too much control over the product or would have had to sell a piece of the company or something like that.

It's too bad much of what I remember as the regular Chikara crew were not there, I assume due to the DGUSA PPV tonight, people like Ricochet, Chuck Taylor and Johnny Gargano and Brodie Lee.

Glad Kingston won and mildly surprised Quack did not put himself over as the first champion.

I hope this is the end of BDK. Their mega-push is one of the things that turned me from being a Chikara loyalist.

All of this is probably because of this promo which the with leather guy calls the greatest pro wrestling promo of 2011.

Yes, but WHY are the tag titles in Spanish when the singles title is in English? Not that it matters - I eventually just assumed that it was because tag matches are contested under lucha rules.

As a second-time viewer (and really, first-time viewer of an actual event as opposed to one compilation DVD), I wound up asking "why?" a lot during this show. Eventually I quit questioning things and just worked under the assumption that "this is Chikara and this is just how things are done here." Not that I much cared, since everything was fun and the wrestling was good.

oh thank goodness James did this so I didn't.

That is basically it.

"this is Chikara and this is just how things are done here."

That too. Things are different in CHIKARA because sometimes they're better and sometimes just to be different. It is year 10 and they're just getting to that singles championship.

I watched this on a (occasionally not buffering) delay, and enjoyed it. I would gamble the DGUSA iPPV tonight probably had a match with a better star rating, but being a casual follower of both promotions, I can't imagine I would've cared as much about those matches as these. (Though I'd have the lucha de apuestas match as "quite good", the opener as "very good", and the main event as "very good raised to pretty excellent via crowd reaction and random white guy in a button up shirt who is apparently Reckless Youth.")

Almost every match was either fun or happy; only mean ol' Icarus got away with a win for evil, and they made clear it was about chapter 3 in a longer story. The Ants all won, Sara del Ray won, Colt Cabana won, the BDK was pretty well vanquished and may be effectively done. If you bought the show, you were going to have a lot fun.

If you had gotten into the hype for the show, or just used some basic logic, it was not that hard to figure out the finishes to most every match. It would've been the lamest PPV prediction thread yet, because everyone would've probably had about the same exact picks. And there was absolutely nothing wrong with that predictability, because all those stories were good stories perfectly good stories to tell. The small guy finally beat the bigger guy, the good duo finally stopped the evil force when the evil force, Two guys hit each other hard and one guy won. Pro wrestling. Not very complicated!

I was kind of worried about the Larry Sweeney tribute at the end, but it felt honest. I though challenging guys from WWE and TNA was a bit silly, but that felt honest to Eddie Kingston too.

So, does challenging people in Floria mean FCW? And was that a dig against Claudio?

I think we all know that Quack doesn't play nice with others and has a long history of falling out with people. Did CC leave on bad terms, with Quack not being able to finish the BDK storyline as he had written it?

lol you just got yourself some iwc street cred by bashing TNA! Bully for you! You should go ahead and sign up as a poster for 411 wrestling. I do love how you think a promotion that may not even have gotten a 100 buys for their first ippv should be on national tv. And lets be honest chikara is a fucking freak show you'd see at a carnival. Mae Young giving birth to a hand is better than the freak show crap chikara puts on to entertain their social misfit fanbase. Any slow motion wrestling on the show? Another thing I love is people that bashed TNA for bashing the WWE and calling them bush are wetting themselves because Eddie Kingston(who?) blasted TNA. Speaking of Kingston I never heard of him so I googled him and he looks like a more generic version of Tommy Dreamer. His ring gear is bush as is his look. I'm sure Vince and Dixie are falling over each other to sign this superstar.

I'll take you at your word there and let things be. But as a new poster here is something to think about. You can disagree with anyone all you want, most people do. but flaming people for their opinions went out before the EZ-Board. You should also take what anyone here writes in the context of what they have been saying here since the 1990's.
So as to show thanks to CRZ for having my back, I'm posting this link for everyone to see Sara Del Rey and Allison Danger wrestle New York Knockout Nikki and Michelle Morgan with special guest referee The Fabulous Thunderkitty.
