Another 'Saturday Night Live' Cast Member Departs On the heels of Will Forte's announcement that he'll be departing late-night sketch comedy show 'Saturday Night Live,' it's also been confirmed that Jenny Slate will not be returning this season, EW.com reports. Slate joined the cast in 2009 and made quite the splash when she dropped the F-word during her very first show. She played bit parts in sketches for the remainder of the 2009 season.
In addition to her 'SNL' work, Slate recently created and voiced a popular viral video, 'Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,' about a shy, shoe-loving snail. Prior to landing the 2009 'SNL' gig, Slate starred in a one-woman show, 'Jenny Slate: Dead Millionaire.'
Slate's departure is the latest in a slew of 'SNL' casting changes. After Forte's farewell announcement a couple weeks ago, EW also confirmed the show will be adding four new feature players to the cast: actor/comedian Taran Killam, Chicago-based comedians Paul Brittain and Vanessa Bayer and newcomer Jay Pharoah.
'SNL' will begin its 36th season on September 25: former cast member and current 'Parks and Recreation' star Amy Poehler will host and Katy Perry will be the musical guest.

Wow, bite your tongue on the ESPN Classic sketches. Those were a highlight of the season for me. Perhaps it was more about Sudeikis' reactions to what he was saying and to Forte, but I loved those sketches.
I do agree that I will miss MacGruber, and I don't really get the timing for Forte leaving because of the MacGruber movie bombing. Jenny Slate though...the only thing I will miss from her was the sketch about the personalized doorbell messages.

You know what would be even better news? SNL trimming their sketches down to an average of five minutes instead of dragging the unfunny for 15. | JST

I am wondering if the two people "from Chicago" are from the Second City troop I saw when I was there a few years back. There were some FANTASTIC comedians there that night. | It's False

At the very least, though, MacGruber went out on a hell of a high note with the sketch featuring Betty White. It was probably the best one of the entire run.
And say what you will about the movie bombing, but it was still a hell of a lot of awesome. I'm personally jonesing for a sequel, even if it has to go direct-to-DVD. God knows they've greenlit worse crap in the past.

I saw that video of Pharaoh doing a hell of an Obama. If this means we can finally get Fred Armisen out of that role, I'm all for it.
Well...at least we're not losing Kristen Wiig.

I know the impressions are the things that get SNL play on Monday morning cable news channels, but I prefer character skits much more. A killer impressionist joining the cast doesn't excite me in the least.

As good as his Will Smith and Eddie Murphy impressions were, it's the Smeagol bit that got me all tingly. Kid's got skills.

Keeping Wiig is good, as long as they also acquired a Wiig filter.

That's really the biggest change in this newest era of SNL --- most of the cast sticks around for 8-10 years now instead of leaving after five or six at the most.
