And I'll respond: When he was in a six-man tag match at a December taping in South Carolina (where the LWO birth went over like rocky toothpaste), the cheers and chants blew virtually everyone else out of the water. Only Undertaker garnered a bigger individual pop, and that was during his entrance.

At a HOUSE SHOW in the old Stampede Corral before a crowd of about 1200 people, Eddie blew the roof off the joint. If that isn't a sign of a good face, what is?

I'll say this. I think at this point, that they HAVE to give Cena a run at the top. If not, they'll seriously take years off his shelf-life as someone the fans care about. That said, I really don't think that WM is the place that I want to see Marky Mark win the world title. Let someone else get it at WM (or even half JBL keep the title until after WM, but that would mean that Triple H would have to lose his to Batista, and I don't know if that'll be happening).

I still think the guy amounts to a re-vamped version of the Road Dogg, only with the added bonus of appealing to middle-class white kids who wear their hats crooked and think they're all 'old school'. He's a marketing dream for the WWE to have as a top guy, but as someone who has watched the WWE/F insanely for the past 14 years, and loves the Dead-man Undertaker and all his feuds, I have to say that I personally don't want Wrestlemania to be built around someone I'm worried is merely a one-shot wonder for wrestling. I didn't bring up the Undertaker because I think he should win it. I just mean that I can watch the show for both the potential five-star matches and also for the cheesyness, but the WWE has raised me to beleive that Wrestlemania is supposed to be something special. Triple-Threat matches for the title instead of one-on-one bother me, and so does Cena winning at their biggest show. Let him have IYH 176 or something.

Personally, I'm not much a Cena fan, but I give the guy credit for his ability to get a crowd pumped.

Sure, for most of us, his mic work is stale and that's a result of his character basically being a cartoon of hip-hop culture. But I think the WWE knows what they're doing with Cena. They have groomed him very well, but not for the smarks and the old school fans. Cena is there to entertain and draw the younger viewers. It's the kids that love Cena. It's the kids who want to be in the Chain Gang.

If the WWE wants a new-generation Champ, then in Cena they have someone with the potential to bring in a new generation of fans as well. I think that's good business.

What about the US title? WM20 was where he won that one.

Kudos to you for recognising the feeling you have in you and also knowing that it is out of your hands. I agree his shelf life is fast approaching for a major run. Saying that I dont expect him to be in a major role in 3 years either..unless he changes his persona dramatically.

As to your concern over him winning at WM21 , I dont know if he will or he wont , I have concerns over whether he can carry the title. But I recognise that the $$$ will have more of a say over that. What about Batista? Do you feel he is more of a one shot?

I LOVE Eddie. LOVE.HIM. But I have yet to hear him or anyone else consistently get pops like CENA. I like Cena. I like his look and I like his confidence. I'm bummed that his in ring work lately has seemed to diminish, but I think part of that has to do with what he is working with. Dupree and Kenzo are pretty weak in my opinion, his fued with Booker suffered because of Booker's bad back and Cena's inexperience. The Carlito thing was a mess for many reasons. I think back on the matches he had with Benoit, Eddie and Angle and they were MUCH better. He needs an experienced worker to help him along. I also think they need to broaden his character. Yeah, he can keep up the raps of course, but also let him cut some intense promos without the rap. At a Championship level I want to feel there is realized hatred between two competitors, and goofy potty and gay jokes don't convey that. So with all that I would say if they broaden Cena's scope and given him a solid worker to fued with he could make a great champ. My suggestion would be, give him the belt, and book him in a fued AGAINST Eddie.

The US title I'm okay with. I grew up watching guys like The Honky Tonk Man and Goldust with the secondary titles, and Cena is certainly higher up than them.

I do. To me, Cena is more of a gimmick that can wrestle poorly. Batista may be a poor wrestler (like someone else pointed out in another thread, we don't really know since he's been protected since birth in the WWE), but I feel better knowing that he is a *wrestler* first, and I think they can do more with a guy who's really a more talented Goldberg than they can with a guy who rhymes that his opponent is gay each week. Cena's always just one promo away from becoming a parody of himself.

Cena entertains me. Maybe he did more a few months ago than he does now, but I still like seeing him for the reaction he gets before and during his matches if nothing else. I have no problem with him as Smackdown Champion either. I can't really explain it fully, but somewhere hidden deep inside me, a wrestling purist is screaming "Not at Wrestlemania!"

Assuming Eddie and Cena are equal in crowd reaction, I think Eddie would be a better choice for champion for three reasons: he appeals to an actual monetary market, can put on a good match (seriously, Cena hasn't had a good one since the Summer), and the "smarter" crowd favors Eddie. It would appease more people overall.

The smarter crowd favoring Eddie means nothing. The "smart" fans are clamoring for Stevie Richards pushes. The fanbase they want to appeal to are the ones who go to shows, not the ones who will sit back on the internet and protest things until Benoit gets the title back.

And also, Cena doesn't appeal to an actual monetary market? Unless I'm misunderstanding that, you're talking about a demographic of sorts. Eddie has the hispanics but I'd venture to say theres quite a large amount of little white kids who are wannabe thug rappers also. QUITE a large amount.

I agree about the match quality part. That all goes back to the smart fan thing though. If wrestling ability was good for business, Hogan wouldn't have made anything. Wrestling ability is an excellent plus, and Eddie has that total package, but unless someone is horrific in the ring and gets booed out of the building because of it, their "in ring quality" is hardly a concern to business. Cena is hardly terrible or embarassing in the ring, and the crowd responds to his gimmick. That's what counts. See we look for the better wrestling and all that, Vince looks for the dollars. There are dollars with Cena as the future. And like others said before, STRIKE while the iron is hot. Eddie is a proven talent, Cena can fizzle if they don't act when they have the chance (just like with Batista).

EDIT: Ah yes, and by the way, I am a huge Eddie fan and not one of John Cena. Personally I'd like Eddie better also, but you have to think how THEY would think. Cena is a wiser choice because they have the chance now to propel him even higher and make a buck or two out of it. It's hard to disagree with that.

Well I've got two points you agree with and one that you don't think they'd listen to...good enough for me.

I know the internet consensus of "what WWE will do/won't do" but I think outside that realm, cause I don't even like the fed.
