A blockbuster trade occurred today in the NBA. The Boston Celtics acquired Vin Baker and Shammond Williams from the Seattle SuperSonics in exchange for Kenny Anderson, Vitaly Potapenko and Joseph Forte.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I think that ideally, Boston has found the third scorer it needs, but at the cost of having to find a new starting point guard. I doubt that Tony Delk is that man.

Vin Baker is a big fat piece of crap and was a cancer in the Sonics' locker room at times with his crybaby attitude and weight problems. I say, "Thank you Boston Celtics for getting us out of another year of waching that big, lazy, out-of-shape, sorry excuse for an NBA player." He is the reason why the NBA shouldn't have guaranteed contracts. I hope for the Celtics' sake he stays away from the North End.

In the dictionary under the "addition-by-subtraction" should be the report of this trade. Buh-bye, Vin, take care now.

The Celtics will be better when he is hurt, just like the Sonics were.

In the end, this doesn't compare to the Everett/Oliver trade as the biggest "addition by subtraction" case. We CUT Oliver and still made out ahead. Ah well, my Nawlins Hornets have their own issues... come down here, Baaaaaaroooooon...

Being a lifelong Celtics fan, I can't say I am overly impressed with the acquisiton of Baker. While the Celtics needed a power forward and/or center, I am not sure that Baker is the man. On the other hand, Kenny Anderson is not going to be any more tradeable than right now. He's coming off a terrific season and playoffs and he can only get worse. Replacing him at the point will be an issue, but with Pierce and Walker, point guard and distributing the ball is a little less important than on some other Eastern Conference teams.

The final analysis: It's worth a shot.

He's Rolie Polie Olie - and in his world of curves and curls, he's the swellest kid around.

Baker carries a lot of baggage with him and will definitely have to take a reduced role with the Celtics since Pierce and Walker are the main men. Agree with Pieman on Kenny - trade him now while you can, it was time for him to add yet another team to his resume anyway - do the Celts even have any of their picks left now from the 2001 draft ?

Not quite sure I would rate this as blockbuster. Since he left Milwaukee, Baker has been as someone else said "A big fat piece of monkey crap". May be Boston can get something out of him...

Question #1: Why would you *want* to trade Kenny Anderson, whose contract comes off the books next year? You just made it the Eastern Conference finals for crying out loud! It's not like they added the answer to Shaq. The added an overweight, overpaid, soft power forward with FOUR years left on his contract and got rid of a guy who seemed to fit the system just fine with a contract that comes off the books at the end of the season leaving you with cap room?

Question #2: Who was the last player whose career went into the shitter for three years, not due to injury, who came back to have ANY kind of decent career after that? I sure am struggling to come up with one. (Sorry C's fans.)

Well, I did say that ideally, Baker could be the Celtics' third scorer. But you guys are correct-- Baker needs to straighten up or he's gonna play himself right out of the NBA.

Kinda have to wonder what the celts were thinking. Maybe they think they can acquire a point guard... or have one step into the roll? Geez.

I've torn myself apart.... and tried to figure out why... but the only answer i was ever given... that really fits..... is the fact... that women are crazy.

Seems about 5 years too late. I was hoping to acquire Vin when he was on the Bucks(there were rumors), but nothing happened. Kenny will be missed. Arguably, he was the team's MVP this year and the glue that held the team together as well.

Bill Simmons has a hilarious column about his deal at the ESPN Page2 website.
