New Dramas in Fall 2014

Madam Secretary – Newly appointed Secretary of State deals with international politics at the office and domestic politics at home. Stars Tea Leoni.

NCIS: New Orleans – Scott Bakula leads the next NCIS spinoff.

Scorpion – A team of socially awkward super geniuses defend the country against high-tech threats. With Kat McPhee, Robert Patrick, Eddie Kaye Thomas.

Stalker – Two LAPD detectives specialize in investigating stalking incidents. With Maggie Q and Dylan McDermott.

New Comedy in Fall 2014

The McCarthys – Multi-cam comedy about a Boston high school basketball coach who inexplicably chooses his gay, unathletic son (who just wants to move away and live life) as assistant coach.

New Shows in 2015

Battle Creek – Polar opposite detectives (one focuses on old school instinct, the other on high-end tech) solve crimes in RVD’s hometown.

The Odd Couple – Remake of the classic show with Matthew Perry as Oscar and Thomas Lennon as Felix. Well, at least the casting works.

CSI: Cyber – Yet another CSI spinoff that focuses on investigating cyber crimes at the FBI. Sounds like it’ll go the way of L&O: Trial by Jury. Stars Patricia Arquette.

Oh...look my prediction of How I Meet Your Dad was right. Big Bang on Monday will probably get switched back to Thursday in October. Weird how Thursday Night Football is only going to the end of October when the season ends at the end of December. Nothing of interest in their new line-up, again should have kept Crazy Ones.

I'd give The McCarthys two weeks if not for the fact that it's CBS and I'm sure that it will be another lowest common denominator show that, inexplicably does monster ratings (I mean, hey, who doesn't like cheap stereotypes and homophobia in a comedy har har).

Survivor and Hawaii 5-0 are still on? Not that I've watched either one of them. In all it's years on, I've watched one episode of Survivor (I think season 2's finale) and not one show of 5-0. I'm just amazed that they are still on as I haven't heard a thing about either one of them.

Amazing Race moving to Friday is going to be odd, but at least I don't have to record the next 90 minutes of shows in case football runs late.

You wonder if Amazing Race will get the axe in another year or two. It's an expensive show to produce, so you think CBS would think more than to schedule it for a Friday night death slot.

It's funny - I barely watch any shows regularly, but Hawaii Five-0 is a must for me. I wouldn't miss it if it got cancelled, but it's a nice stupid escape. Eye candy (both natural and human), easily solved crimes, and a fun cast keep me (and, presumably, others) hooked.

Also:

Madam Secretary – Newly appointed Secretary of State deals with international politics at the office and domestic politics at home. Stars Tea Leoni.

This description sounds like it was spit out of a computer that randomly generates lines.

It sounds like How I Met Your Dad is suffering from the same thing that Community did. Ideas that don't belong (I would say, too good for) on Television.

God forbid people try some different things.

Or the fact that the show that it was spun off of royally screwed up their final season, causing a backlash.

PS: I wouldn't say Community "suffered"; they lasted on television five years later than they should have despite horrendous acting and subpar writing.

Not that I would've watched CSI: Cyber anyway, but the "pilot" cross-over with the regular CSI a few weeks ago did absolutely nothing for me.

Funny thing about that show...I know a number of people who started out as fans of it, then discover the original on MeTV, and suddenly they can't watch the new version anymore.

I don't watch it regularly, but I'll catch it once in awhile for the same reasons you note.

I can only work with what they give me. :-) All things considered, it's an appropriate one-sentence pitch.

MADAM SECRETARY stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth McCord, the shrewd, determined, newly appointed Secretary of State who drives international diplomacy, battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues, both at the White House and at home. A college professor and a brilliant former CIA analyst who left for ethical reasons, Elizabeth returns to public life at the request of the President following the suspicious death of her predecessor. The President values her apolitical leanings, her deep knowledge of the Middle East, her flair for languages and her ability to not just think outside the box, but to not even acknowledge there is a box. McCord's team includes her Chief of Staff Nadine Tolliver (Emmy Award winner Bebe Neuwirth), speechwriter Matt Mahoney (Geoffrey Arend), press coordinator Daisy Grant (Patina Miller) and her charming assistant, Blake Moran (Erich Bergen). As McCord debates third world problems and finesses foreign dignitaries at work, that's just a warm-up for when she goes home to her supportive husband Henry (Tim Daly) and their two bright children (Katherine Herzer and Evan Roe), where "politics" and "compromise" take on new meaning.

I am a big time H5O fan from the old days so I was VERY sleptical when this show started. Really the only thing that is the same are the names. Now I am hooked in the same way Mr Heel II is and in the same way I was hooked on CSI:Miami. It's a mindless 45 minutes on the elliptical when I get done fast forwarding through the commercials.

and my wife & I have never missed an episode of SURVIVOR. It's not the same show it used to be but it is still fun to watch the idiots make the same mistakes show after show sfter show.

Sorry, it just didn’t. If CBS cared what the internet thought, it would’ve canceled Two and a Half Men years ago.

Not really weird at all, the last few years have had the Thursday night games on TNT for the first half of the season, with the remainder on NFL Network.

You must be thinking off something else. The NFL hasn't been on TNT since 1997.

The NFL only sold off eight Thursday games to CBS, not the complete schedule. They decided to keep most of the later in the year games for themselves, which is about the same amount of games they had before the NFL expanded the Thursday night schedule. The 10/30, November and December Thursday games are only on NFL Network (and all the CBS games will also air on NFL Network.) CBS also gets a game on Saturday 12/30 - both the Eagles/Redskins and Chargers/49ers play at 4:30 pm ET, so one goes to CBS and one goes to NFL Network.

While your counterargument is compelling, my search for "Tea Leoni Hillary Clinton" returned about 2,630,000 results (google.com). Now, that means NOTHING, but I seem to recall the Clintons had some friends in Hollywood...nah, go ahead, protest away at my baseless conjecture. In fact, watch the show and tell me how wrong I am - I won't be able to argue with you 'cause I ain't watchin' it!

(But also, did you see her character's hairdo? Come on, man. You gotta AT LEAST give me three just for that - they definitley aren't going for Madeline Albright or Condoleezza Rice there)
