Whereas the 1st movie was probably 2/3 Lightning McQueen's journey this one is definitely 2/3 Tow Mater, which makes for a much funnier movie than the 1st one, but I'm one of the apparent dimwits that enjoys Larry the Cable Guy (sorry @AndyKindler).
Really liked John Turturro (in total "Jesus" from "The Big Lebowski" dick heel mode) as the Italian sportscar Francesco Bernoulli. Michael Caine's voice was also well cast as "James Bond-like" Finn McMissile and along with his portrayal of Austin Power's dad really makes me wonder what he might have done as James Bond on the big screen in his younger days (just about always plays the coolest cat in the room).
Also dug the Toy Story "short" that showed before the main feature. Should be another big hit for Pixar and Disney.
edit: There was also a bit of an easter egg in the closing credits showing the location of another of Pixar's movies. Not sure if there were any others as I'm not a huge Pixar aficionado.

While Mater did have more to do this time, this really felt like more of an ensemble film to me than the previous outing. I would almost say Mater had 2/5 of the movie, with the Spies having another 2/5 and Lightning the remaining 1/5.
I don't know if the negative reviews were just a backlash against Larry the Cable Guy, but I've always been able to separate characters from actors

Pixar always hides clues of their next movie in their current one. Ex. In Monster's Inc. Boo has a stuffed clown fish. Last year there was a poster of one of the new Cars in Andy's room. | SchippeWreck

This was the first time we tried taking him to the movies. If we hadn't sat through 20+ minutes of pre-show and trailers, I would have been able to see more of the movie. I'll try to make it back, but I think I'll be seeing the rest on DVD.
LOVED the Toy Story short, but I was seriously bummed my theater didn't show the Brave teaser.

There was....
Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
A skyline shot that included Gusteau's restaurant from Ratatouille (this is the one referred to by Drew).
The movie on the marquee at the Radiator Springs Drive-In was "The Incredimobiles".
One of the ad billboards at the third Grand Prix was for "Lassetyres", a tip to co-director John Lasseter. |
Probably more I didn't see.

I thought the first Cars was easily the weakest of Pixar's films, so I'm not too surprised to hear the sequel wasn't that good. It's all about the merchandise, which is pretty popular. It's still pretty weird to see a Marvel superheroes section in the Disney store. | Jobberman

it has been a while, but I am pretty sure the boy in the dentist's office in "Finding Nemo" was reading an Incredibles comic book. |
