The Carolina Panthers have signed 43-year-old quarterback Vinny Testaverde and placed Jake Delhomme on injured reserve, the team said on Wednesday. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Testaverde ranks sixth in NFL history with 6,529 pass attempts, 3,693 completions and 45,281 passing yards and ninth with 270 touchdown passes. Testaverde entered the NFL as the first overall pick of the 1987 draft by Tampa Bay and played six seasons with the Buccaneers. He then spent five years with the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens and six seasons with the New York Jets. Testaverde moved on to have single-season stints with the Dallas Cowboys, the Jets and the New England Patriots. Testaverde, a two-times Pro Bowler, played in three games for the Patriots last season, completing two-of-three passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. Delhomme, the club's starting quarterback, suffered an injured right elbow during Carolina's game in Atlanta on Sept. 23. The club announced Monday he would be lost for the year. David Carr replaced Delhomme as the starter but injured his back Sunday against the New Orleans Saints and his status for the Panthers' upcoming game against Arizona is uncertain. Carolina is 3-2 and tied with Tampa Bay for the lead in the NFC South.
Fade in: Picture the backstage area from "The Running Man", enough ex-jocks to fill a Miller Lite All-Stars commercial milling about, some hanging onto nubile young women, others getting high - as a game plays on a plasma TV in the background. It's the Jets hosting the Eagles, second quarter...
Joe Buck: 3rd and 8, Pennington takes the snap, drops back.. can't find anyone- OHHHH! A TREMENDOUS hit on Pennington - he's writhing on the ground!
Troy Aikman: That's not good Joe, I could hear a snap all the way up here.. you folks at home might want to look away from this replay....
(Back at the party, people start to gather around the TV)
PA System at the party: Boomer Esiason... Boomer Esiason to wardrobe....

Correction: Arizona signed Rattay to backup Kurt Warner, who is replacing the injured Matt Leinart. I just picked up Warner in my FFL so don't scare me like that. :)

How's this for a scare. Warner tore a ligament in his non-throwing arm. Likely out for a long time. Anyone got some free time to play QB out in Arizona?

Of course the season is not officially up the proverbial creek until you hear the words 'Mike' and 'McMahon' in quick succession. Then my friend, you be afraid.
In Peter King's MMQB this week he mentions that Arizona had called Vinny last week and he had actually agreed to play for them.
At the last minute, he decided not to go because Arizona was too far from home.
Then Carolina called and he even mentions thinking that he can't do that because they were playing Arizona... Then he decides "what the hell" and he goes to Carolina.
As for Mike McMahon, he was a member of the Toronto Argos in the CFL for the first couple of months of the season.
He played in relief in one game and actually played well enough to earn the starting job when Michael Bishop got hurt. However, he sucked in his two starts and was quickly slid down the depth chart to at least 4th... He was then traded to Montreal in September. Last thing I saw was that he was put on the suspended list later in September, but I have no idea why, but I don't think he'll be in the NFL anytime soon...
There's a World Container with your name on it, and a billion ways to go bezerk!!
Since I don't post much in the Football folder I will state for the record I am lifetime Cowboys fan so you can take my bias for what it is. I am thrilled over this. Anyone ever hear an interview with Quincy?
