Observer says so, anyway: http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21514

Reading between the lines, WWE seems to have decided that making Carlito happy is better than handing him to TNA. (Given that the arrivals of Angle, Christian, and Booker haven't moved Impact's ratings or helped TNA's buyrates, I'm not sure why they're worried, but there you go.)

I wonder what kind of push Carlito will get. My guess is that he'll receive something of a push as a condition of staying, but that in the long run he'll end up down on the card.

He might be a good choice to blow off the Flair story line at Mania. The final Flair rub at the biggest event of the year must be chosen carefully.

I don't see why the WWE would be so worried. Carlito hasn't done jack during his tenure, has a rep for being lazy, isn't a "big name", isn't very good (and doesn't have enough charisma to cover for that fact). Let him go to TNA (if TNA would've even been interested).

Haha, I think it's pretty safe to say that TNA would've been interested. And that is not an endorsement of Carlito.

The story in the Observer Newsletter was pretty much what you speculated, Peter (The Hegemon) -- with Booker just showing up in TNA, WWE apparently didn't want it to look like a raid of talent moving in that direction was happening.

Carlito is one of those guys who needs to be moved to ECW and be one of their midcard main eventers, like Morrison and Shelton where management had soured them and they can get a new start away from the Raw politics.

Well I know that TNA gets a lot of flack for their hiring of WWE stars but really their current roster isn't that bad. Kurt, Christian, Booker, Team 3D, Rhino, Gail Kim and Tomko might not have improved their ratings but I think they're all currently good parts of the show. Even Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash are good for a promo if their wrestling is limited.

Meanwhile the WWE guys that really sucked like Test and Rikishi have been cut and it sounds like there is no interest in Masters either. Rick Steiner seems to be gone too. So I'm not totally convinced TNA would've been interested if Carlito is as much a problem as they say. Or if they gave him a chance and he wasn't any good they would've parted ways.

Really the only WWE guy in TNA who I absolutely don't want to see on my screen is Kip James. I could do without Jackie and Christy Hemme too, but they're pretty harmless.

I think Carlito would interest me more as a mouthpiece, than a worker at this point. If they want to try a renewed push, I'd send him off TV (long vacation, or developmental) for at least 6 months, just to let the memories fade a bit. Although I doubt that plan would have convinced him to change his mind about a release.

Carlito needs a Tomko type of big guy as a sidekick so he has someone to fight for him when he plays coward

They went that route once with him and Aaron Aguilera (Jesus). But since Cena demolished him and he was immediately injured, released, and forgotten about, there's no reason they can't try it again.

He's actually had two bodyguard sidekicks, he was aligned with Matt Morgan for a while before Carlito was drafted to Raw.

What about his brother Eddie? I guess he's not a big guy or anything, but maybe they'd make a good team. Is Eddie still in developmental, or what? And has anyone here seen his stuff?

I tend to agree with this (albeit sometimes without much faith). I mean, TNA didn't hire Heidenreich, or La Resistance (well -- I guess Sylvain is doing French-language announcing?), or Joey Matthews or Luther Reigns or Orlando Jordan or Sylvester Terkay or any number of other people. They make lots of goofy choices but it's not really a given that every WWEject gets picked up.

I figured something was up when he didn't take the fall in that lame Hornswaggle match.

Carlito had a "not motivated" rep long before WWE got him. He got into wrestling because his father made him, more or less, and never had the love for the business that his brother did. So I don't see why it became suddenly offensive to them that he turned out to be exactly what everyone always said he was. I know they have this attitude that everyone is either a born Stamford mark (Cena), or will become one after being there for a while (as Angle did), but that's simply not the case with everyone.

In any case, Carlito is not great at anything, but he's just not crappy enough in any one particular area that I feel like washing my hands of him altogether. He's a competent guy who is good to have around, and will probably only make lateral moves career-wise. Still need guys like that to fill out a roster, and you could do a lot worse than Carlito (like that useless lump Bob Holly).

This may sound stupid, but where does this "Carlito is leaving" stuff come from?

How did I miss this?

If he WAS leaving, why was he still being used on camera? Wouldn't they have just fired him or kept him off camera so people would forget about him?

There was a period where Carlito was getting great crowd responses. The guy has some charisma to him when he's allowed to talk, and plays the "Disrespectful heel" role well. Two years ago, he was one of the most popular guys on RAW because of his ability to talk.

And Cerebus: the talk was mainly coming from various dirtsheets. He's still on camera, but as a chump loser who couldn't outsmart Vince's midget leprechaun son.

With the ladder match vs. Jeff Hardy on the 15th anniversary RAW, I could easily see them flipping the title to Carlito and a "thanks for staying" gesture.

Because of the aforementioned "possibly to TNA" threat. They were humiliating him every week on camera in order to damage his "value" - instead of "former WWE superstar Carlito" it would have been "former WWE superstar who got jobbed out to a midget Carlito".

The Looney Tunes sketch where he tried to run through a painted hole in the wall was the dumbest thing I have seen on my TV in years. Not just on a wrestling show, but on any show, period. I know Horsnwaggle is mostly for the kids, but even the kids know there is a difference between wrestling and a cartoon. Maybe Vince doesn't? I can't help but think that had something to do with paying his dues on the way out the door before he was convinced to stay.

Another way to go with him would be to just make him more a manager of a few guys and part time wrestler as instead of fulltime wrestler. He was probably most over when he had a heel Cabana, so he can draw heat with the mic.
