Two years ago, Marvel killed Steve Rogers. Later this year, Steve Rogers returns!

IGN: Captain America Will Be 'Reborn"

In March 2007, on the heels of Marvel's Civil War series, writer Ed Brubaker and artist Steve Epting did the unthinkable - they killed Steve Rogers, better known to the world as Captain America. Coming at a time when the United States was engaged in vigorous debate about wars overseas - and conveniently hitting stores when the news cycle was slow - Cap's death swept the nation, becoming a cultural talking point for days and weeks to come. Today Cap is set to once agian become a talking point - mostly because he can't seem to stay dead.

The first issue of "Captain America Reborn" (from the team of Ed Brubaker and Bryan Hitch/Butch Guice) hits on July 1.

I have mixed feelings about this. I never thought Marvel should have killed off Steve Rogers to begin with, but I also never thought that Bucky would start to grow on me the way he has. The potential for his stories are there and it seems like a shame to just discard the idea of Bucky America already.

Having said that, it'll be good to have Steve Rogers back. July 1 can't come soon enough.

Anyone wondering if he comes back for his sheild...which is currently in the possession of Stephen Colbert?

Well, it's not that I'm not glad he's coming back, but I would've rather had a chance for the Marvel universe to really hit its lowest point and have Steve come back to save the day. I wouldn't worry too much about Bucky America, though. People like him, and I figure he'll be sticking around for the foreseeable future. Just needs a new code name - going back to Winter Soldier doesn't seem likely.

Oh, and I want to see anyone come to reclaim the shield from Colbert, it's Mark Gruenwald.

I know I'm asking for too much, but geez, why can't comic book characters just stay dead? I started following CA after Rogers death and I thought the series was compelling. To have him come back would kinda...I dunno...cheapen the dramatic effect of his passing.

This comic from 5 days ago seems pretty prophetic.

I think their original intent was to do this to end Dark Avengers, but now that everything in the Marvel Universe has to have the word "Dark" in front of it, I just think they forgot to tell Brubaker. I don't mind having Steve back, but I do agree this needed to happen when everyone else in the Marvel universe failed to the point even Bucky was killed. I believe in keeping the balance which is Bucky or Cap can't be alive for a long time until one has to die.

And the character currently wearing the suit is one of two marvel characters that people thought would "always stay dead."

I still think Quesada will be on Colbert to reclaim the shield tonight, which is why the book shipped today.

Isn't the Marvel Universe set to hit a low point with all this Dark Reign business? Steve Rogers coming back to lead the fight against Norman Osbourne sounds like a pretty good story to me. He was shot as a prisoner of the superhero Civil War which started this whole recent theme of corruption, and now he may be coming back from the dead to finally put an end to it after it's gotten to its worst point. How is that NOT compelling?

Because any and all ramifications of Dark Reign will be downplayed or forgotten by the next crossover. Both Marvel and DC have turned into a larger scale, pricier, non-inclusive version of Spy VS Spy. Root for whoever, someone will die, and try to ignore the voice in your head telling you that being outraged/saddened is an exercise in futility because sooner or later it'll all go back to square one.

Actually, my problem is that they're bringing Steve back before Dark Reign has really had a chance to get going. It's only been what, 3 months since it got going? Let everyone get used to the idea of the Dark Avengers, have Norman really go crazy with power, then bring back Steve to straighten it out. My point is that, while things are headed to their lowest point, they haven't gotten there yet.

From what I understand, Reborn is to be a 5 issue mini-series which starts in July. I would expect most of those issues to be dedicated to how and why Steve Rogers is coming back. His eventual integration into the fight against Osbourne likely wouldn't start until well after the summer.

That's what I'm hoping for at least.

I have been told how Steve comes back and it is fairly lame. As for Dark Avengers from what I have seen in the solicitations from Diamond suggest there is no end to Dark Reign in sight. I do think the way he comes back will create more questions then answers which is ok to do at times, but in this instance its probably not a good thing. Steve will come back to lay the Smackdown on Norman or at least he should by this next year.

I debated putting this in Pro Wrestling, but ultimately it belongs in Print. CM PUNK wrote the introduction to the Avengers vs. X-Men hardcover edition. Here's an interview from Marvel.com with the reigning and defending WWE Champion. (marvel.com)
