I know absolutely nothing about the Captain America storyline, but the pics look good.

With a new build and haircut, Evans seems to have quelled at least some of the "How can the same guy play Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers?" complaints. He looks completely different!

Chris Evans is actually a really fantastic actor who's proven that he can play a pretty good range of characters. I'll admit that I wasn't sure at first, but now that I've seen him in a couple different films, I have no fear at all about the job he'll do as Cap.

Amazingly, it appears that Hydra has replaced the Nazis as bad guys.

Are Nazis even un PC to use as villains now?

(Or maybe they don't want to worry about places like Germany, where the swastika image is ... verboten.)

well the Red Skull is the villain, so I'm pretty sure there are Nazis. As long as we get to see Cap punch out Hitler.

The picture of the Red Skull in the EW Article shows him wearing what appears to be a Hyrda-styled SS outfit, with the Hydra symbol on the shoulder and no red arm band.

I thought maybe it was the Skull in the present, but a) he has a human face and b) the movie apparently takes place only in WWII.

The Avengers cartoon completely replaced Nazis with Hydra, and it's pretty weird. I get the impression that the movie's going to be the same way.

Didn't Tarantino do enough damage to the Nazis in INGLORIOUS BASTERDS?

Nope. This movie has Nazis.

I like Chris Evans, he's a hell of an actor, but when I saw those pics (last week) I didn't see Captain America, I saw Chris Evans wearing a Captain America costume. I think what I'm trying to say is, maybe Marvel should have put out a pic of Evans wearing the mask/helmet too**.

It's a tighter line with cartoons, because no matter how much you try and aim them at both kids and adults, they have to aim at kids, first and foremost. Nazis aren't what you'd call kid-friendly in the 21st century, so those references are out. Heck, even adult cartoons aren't immune to this idea, as Adult Swim's first order of Lupin the 3rd (WAY back when) came without the Nazi-filled "To Be or Nazi Be" episode.

Movies are in a different category. No matter how much the film is based in fantasy, you can still have Nazis. Indiana Jones made a series of it. If it's good enough for Indy, it should be good enough for Cap.

And on a tangent, that new Avengers series has been nothing short of phenomenal in its first few episodes.

I would expect Hydra to be part of the Nazi organization, but have a line or two where they say they are more forward thinking then Hitler. I just want to know if the rumor about the Secret Defenders being the original Avengers is true. The costume looks good as does Evans, still would have preferred Nathan Fillion in the role.

Not to completely derail this thread, but I absolutely love the Avengers cartoon. The characterization is totally perfect (I can't imagine better representations of Graviton or the Hulk - I love the voice actor who does the Hulk), and there are some phenomenal beats, like in the last episode where Iron Man says, "Avengers Assemble!" and Ant-Man says, "We're all right here." And Iron Man just looks at him.

Evans is awesome - he proved to me he could do action when he starred in Cellular.

It's probably no secret that I completely adored the Fantastic Four movies. I thought the casting was perfect for all major characters, with exception of Doom. Not being a comics guy, I thought he was the perfect Johnny Storm.

Colour me excited!

Can we find any shots of Weaving as Red Skull?

The EW article has a picture of Weaving as Johann Schmidt, but not the Skull.

I want to copy a format I've seen for TV ratings, namely where I list some winners and losers, ratings wise. This lets me highlight a few shows whose ratings have stood out to me.
