| #1 Posted on 3.6.03 0731.36 | Looks like teams were pretty quick to make post-1 June moves in order to spread out cap damage over more than one year. I already see J.J. Stokes cut by the 49ers (along with - ha - Junior Bryant - Click Here (sfgate.com), and the Bengals just unloaded Akili Smith (bengals.enquirer.com). Anybody else have any news of high-profile cuts? Anybody have any comments on the ones I just listed or others?

Teams have gotten better managing the cap recently, so there is no need to turn quality players loose. Plus, there were no teams in 2002 that loaded up to make one more title run(i.e. 2001 Ravens) so that lessened the pool of teams making cuts.
Regardless, Greise, Smith, and Stokes were deadweight in their present locations and just needed to be moved.

You know, we were real excited when they reportedthe Cardinals were moving to Baltimore in 1988. Thank GOD that didn't happen!

I just hope he doesn't play like one when he gets here. So much for "Future Fiedler"...tradition is going to run him out of town!

| #9 Posted on 3.6.03 1537.15 | By Week 10 Griese will have played Fiedler right back into the starting spot. Assuming he is still upright by that point. I have no great love for Jay, but I am not sure that Griese is really an improvement for them. But I guess it won't much matter if they do the smart thing and turn and handoff 30 times a game.
and maybe I should open up my sensitive side/but really, the sensitive side sucks./I've been there./You can only imagine the kinds of sweaters they make you wear.

Whether or not he'll be an improvement over Fiedler is debatable, but he's definitely an upgrade over Ray Puke-us. If not for him, the Fins might've been playoff-bound last season. | dMr
