I normally don't take time out to watch an NHL game, but I love the rivalry between the Leafs and Montreal...and I wasn't disappointed. The Canadiens and Leafs played an awesome match.

Lindros keeps getting better everytime he plays. If he stays healthy, I think he'll be the breakout star of the Leafs this season.

Anyone else watch?

I watched it, and although I'm a Leaf's fan, this is the first year I've actually watched an NHL game from start to finish. This year I've actually watched 6 or 7. Even teams like Atlanta and San Jose that I really couldn't care less about. The game's finally not boring my to sleep by the second period.

This game was fun to watch because of the fans hatred of Lindros and his two goals (game winner too, no less). I'm having a lot of fun watching Lindros play this year. He looks like he's having the time of his life, and I really think that this year for him is going to rejuvenate him like like Belfour's first year in Toronto did for him.

I'm even starting to come around to Allison too. With the team starting to gel and work together, it'll be interesting to see what the lines end up being when Sundin comes back.

I don't even mind if Sundin stays out, since it seems the Leafs get a real PETE (Patrick Ewing Theory Effect) going whenever he's out of the lineup for an extended period of time.

On the flip side, congrats to ABC for hiring Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to "I like it, I love it" for every halftime highlight show throughout the "Monday Night Football" season. Just last week, my buddy House and I were discussing Cosell's classic highlight narratives in the '70s, and how nobody had approached them since, and I told House, "Only one thing could ever come close, and I know it's a long shot, but what if ABC hired Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to 'I Like it, I Love It' for each week of NFL highlights throughout the season?" And wouldn't you know, it happened! See, dreams can come true. --- Bill Simmons, www.sportsguy.net

Wow. So we've gone from wanting to burn down the ACC to getting our spots ready on the parade route in a matter of a few days.

I think the Leafs will get better but they are still in an extraordinarily tough conference so they'll still be battling for a playoff spot come April. I hope I'm wrong, though.

I caught the 3rd period of the game at the Saddledome, while waiting for the Battle of Alberta to start. The Flames are starting to come around, although they owe that entire victory last night to Kiprusoff, who was just incredible in goal, including fighting off seven shots in a full two minutes of 5 on 3.

The Oilers were missing Horcoff, certainly, and looked inept at times (particularly Cory Cross, who gave the puck to Iginla for the game's second goal).

Great atmosphere in the 'Dome, but I couldn't understand the intense booing for Pronger when he touched the puck.

The idea that a team might do better without a great player than with him. F'rinstance, the Knicks making it to the NBA Finals without Ewing. Guess the whole concept's that they'll play harder knowing they can't rely on their superstar teammate.
