After reviewing and reviewing Lance Storm's new Team Canada/Hart Foundation gimmick, I've decided that I don't like it. I think this is the kind of gimmick that can bury a guy. Remember in WCW the last month when they tried to move Storm away from his whole Team Canada/hating American thing, and it was unsuccessful? The fans weren't buying it.

And, I like Storm, I really do, but it has become increasingly more noticable to me he's not a god on the mic like I initially thought he was. He's talented as hell in the ring, and he's just decent on the mic (at least his WWE work has been in my eyes), but is this gimmick digging him and Christian and Test a hole they won't be able to get out of? I mean this gimmick as it is right now obliterates any chance Storm has of being a face outside the northern borders (anyone else dreading the possible return of the "USA sucks" chant when we return to Canada?). I thin the possibility he's not good enough on the mic to get out of this hole is high.

Me, personally, I'm just glad they didn't have Storm or Benoit join the group, becasue I think this is the type of thing that can ruin a guy for a looong amount of time. Anyone else think of someone who was ruined by a gimmick or who overcame something like this?

I don't remember, did Bret ever overcome the Hart Foundation while in the WWE?

Anyone else agree, disagree?

I strongly disagree this is a problem.

Storm has been consistently buried for a long time now.

He has a role, which he was very successful with in WCW until they killed it dead with stupid booking in Canada.

This role does not require him to be a clown.

He is lucky.

If he gets 'stuck' with it, who cares? One of the things I hate about wrestling is a lack of character consistency over the years. This makes Lance Storm consistent.

It's not like he's Doink or the Godfather, where it's all gimmick and no wrestler.

Good for Lance if he can get over strong... and better if he can headline as a face in Canada because of it.

He didn't have time. The end of the America vs Canada angle was also the end of Hart's WWF career.

If the anti-American angle means Lance Storm gets more TV time, then I'm down with that.

The dude needs to be used more consistently anyway, and given longer matches than he's been getting. And those matches should be on the big shows, not just Velocity and such.

Besides, Lance Storm was one of the few bright spots in 2000 WCW, one of the few guys (besides Booker T, Scott Steiner and the cruiserweights of course) worth watching.

So I'm glad they've finally gone back to what worked for him during the most memorable part of his career. I can dig it.
