C.T. WEBER (PF)

Not to be confused with: C. Webber (chriswebber.com)

Occupation: Union organizer

Website: None - try http://www.peaceandfreedom.org/recall.shtml

Peace & Freedom party candidates on the ballot in this election: One

Something you didn't know (or care) about the Peace & Freedom party: After missing two elections (2000, 2002), they managed to register enough voters to requalify for inclusion on the California state ballot

I'm sold: The Peace & Freedom party (peaceandfreedom.org) describe themselves as "the only socialist alternative on the California ballot." Be sure not to miss their links page! (peaceandfreedom.org)

Hey, at least he beat out the Natural Law party: As PF candidate for controller in 1998, received 74966 votes (1.3%) and came in next to last (primary98.ss.ca.gov)

Idealism: Recent speech offered "a utopian socialist vision of California with free university educations, free health care, a 30-hour workweek with no loss in pay, a doubling of the minimum wage, property taxes based on the ability to pay and a massive public works program to create jobs."

Estimated size of audience for "Progressive Election Forum," where this speech was delivered: 150 (sacbee.com)

A plan: "To reduce the huge deficit, we should stop expensive contracting of jobs to private firms that state workers do better for less money, substitute treatment and education for imprisonment of nonviolent drug offenders, restore higher tax rates on the wealthy, and enact split-roll property taxes so residents have low taxes and big corporations again pay their fair share."

What this election is all about: "Stop the extremists who sponsored this recall from weakening workers' labor rights, taking away women's choice, and dismantling coastal and wilderness protections."

And finally: "As Dr. Spock said, 'As long as we vote for the lesser evil, we will always have evil.' "

Vote for C.T. Weber - the "Fab Five" candidate

LATER: SOCIALISTS WITHOUT PARTIES

The only thing I enjoy more than doing the crossword puzzle is actually finishing it.

It is a Washington Post/Gallup poll. Just because it's on Drudge doesn't AUTOMATICALLY mean it's right wing propaganda. The REAL telling stat is the favorable rating difference between the Democratic Party and their candidate in 2004.
