Possible slogan: "IT'S TIME TO STOP PUFFING AND DO SOME HUFFING!" (I think they want you to do both)
Campaign promises: "He will be the only honest man in the race for Governor."
Typical: Started a blog (smokersparty.com), then engaged in textbook novice blogger behaviour - made seven entries in six days, then either completely forgot about it or lost interest, with no new entries in over a week.
Yeah, but: Roscoe reminds us that "if one out of four smokers in California votes for him, he will be the next governor."
Approximate number of Californians who smoke: 4 million
Approximate number of Californians who cast votes in the 2002 Gubernatorial election: 7.7 million
Number of times Roscoe has voted: Zero
Campaign HQ: Any of the 150 Cigarettes Cheaper! shops - photo example here (smokersparty.com) - he HAS managed to hit 41 shops in five days...and always seems to manage to get some press in whichever city he's in. (On the other hand, who ELSE is the Turlock Journal gonna interview)
Another reason he thinks he could win: "R" randomly selected first to put names at the top of the ballot - except that he'll be close to the BOTTOM of the ballot in many *more* districts since they bump the top names to the bottom as they move through the 80 districts
Unclear on the concept: "Hopefully being a third-party candidate would give me a negotiating advantage" in dealing with the Democrats and Republicans in balancing the state budget
But please, take a mint first: Instead of campaign expenditures, expects smokers' word of mouth will get his message out
Vote for Ned Roscoe - the "other Huffington" candidate
TOMORROW: WOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHORT SKIRT LEGS WOO PARTY GIRLS *ARE* REPUBLICAN AFTER ALL
Roscoe plus involvement with something involving Dixie? Finally Roscoe P. Coletrain is moving out of the shadow of Boss Hogg and taking control for himself.
Ok, so Ted Williams is decapitated now? What will his son do next, sell him to the Japanese dog food company that bought former Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand?
Looks like Ned has earned the endorsement of the LPC (ca.lp.org). I wish they'd gone into detail about WHY they picked him over the other two Libertarians (although, with one of them it's pretty obvious - Hamidi's a grade A kook - hmm, I need to profile him soon) - my hunch is they decided to sell out and go for the "high profile" candidate. At least the mothership was good enough to mention ALL the candidates (lp.org).
