Sheesh, talk about wrapping yourself up in the flag! It's...
MOHAMMAD ARIF (I)

Website: www.mohammadarif.com

Occupation: Businessman - well, that could mean ANYTHING

Claim to fame: Allegedly first Pakistani-American to run in an American gubernatorial race

Crimes of web design: Lots of forms for no reason, animated gif on top of a busy background gif

Missions/Goals: "Coming soon" - uh oh

I don't know the lingo: This story linked from his website (bbc.co.uk) PROBABLY talks about him - there's definitely a picture of him down there (hey, looks familiar!) - but it appears I don't speak Urdu - but hey, check out that swank picture of "Arnold" at the TOP of the article

They may be onto something: In a story highlighting Arif and the two Indian candidates, a reporter from Outlook India (outlookindia.com) writes, "The recall of Gov. Gray Davis has inspired some obscure and purely puerile candidates to try their luck at the top job in a great celebration of chutzpah that is so American as to leave one breathless." They don't seem to classify Arif as "puerile," thankfully

Equal opportunity: Also linked from his website is what appears to be a scan from La Opinin (mohammadarif.com) - Now I wouldn't say I know a whole lot of Spanish either, but I'm PRETTY sure he's making a real stretch to categorise this as one of his "press releases" - you click on it and let me know

Maybe he should have used crayon: Using much of the same techniques, there are "press releases" going to the Los Angeles Daily News and, get this, FOUR times to the Times - here's the worst offender (mohammadarif.com)

Campaign offices in California (claimed): SIXTEEN - you think Schwarzenegger has that many?

Ties to: Pakistan People's Party (ppp.org.pk) - while espousing laudable goals for Pakistan, they probably wouldn't translate very well to California...plus that name will probably put up red flags, scaring normal folk

How many Pakistanis vote?: From an email sent by campaign manager Aamir Raees to Pakistani paper The Nation (and reported in their online version (nation.com.pk)): "We would need support for Mr. Arif's campaign in California. We would like Pakistanis to be more involved in the political process of this country and Arif is a very good example of this."

Quote: "My agenda is to work for the common people for everyone."

Pakistanis in California: 20,093 (2000 Census data)

Californians: 33,871,648 (Ibid.)

Vote for Mohammad Arif, the "Triple P" candidate

NEXT: My high school was not named after him

I don't think 0.06% of the vote is going to get it done for him.

Well, certainly not ALL Californians are registered to vote - nor all Pakistanis, for that matter.

This is some powerful logic. So, anytime your name is included in a published list, then it was because of "press releases"? Maybe I'm just being condescending because I was once cited (and quoted) in the Hereford Brand newspaper (hopefully you can understand why I don't have a link to that particular newspaper). As all the wieners are probably aware, the Brand (as its afficionados call it) won first place in Division II feature writing and society pages in the 2001 Panhandle Press Association Better Newspaper Contest (texaspress.com). Only chicanery from the Plainview Daily Herald prevented the Brand from winning the coveted General Excellence award.

Sorry, but I just cannot bring myself to click on that link... knowing what the is contained therein is enough for me. It is all so sad... and so completely un-fucking-necessary.
