The PDF version of the Voters' Guide being mailed out to every registered voter in the state is available at http://www.voterguide.ss.ca.gov/2003-vg.pdf - why wait for ME to post kooky excerpts when you can go straight to the source yourself?

Strangely, they make mention of a website, www.MyVoteCounts.ca.gov, that doesn't seem to exist at the moment. Maybe by the time it arrives in the mail? We can only hope - we'd hate to have the state of California look bad from such an embarrassing gaffe! ;-)

I've got some paper Sample Ballots.

The Santa Clara County has the candidates on 7 pages
on half sheet papers and will likely use the number
punch card system as usual.

The Alameda County one has candidates listed all in one 8.5"x11" page with three columns and made mention of
a computerized system.

I wonder if they'll publish the paper voting guide.

It's pretty nuts.

Supposedly the statewide guide is being mailed out ...umm, I think it started yesterday and the last ones will make it out about a week from now. So you should have it by the 19th for sure. You can also call the elections office if you don't get one. Or you can look at that PDF linked at the top of the thread, which I've been doing off and on just for grins.

I got my sample ballot (SCC) last Friday. SCC, by the way, is one of the last six counties that hasn't gotten off the punch card systems so look for CHAD CHAD CHAD come October.

One more big day between now and the Election is the last day to qualify as a write-in - which is the 23d.

Mainstream journalism has a huge bias towards sensationalism, laziness, and the status quo. Stories are dropped when they get too complicated or drag on too long (don't hear a lot about Iraqi prison abuse these days)
