Ok so here's the part that gets me.

Shouldn't the indignation be directed towards the fact that the guy who was on the Utilities commission was allegedly sleeping with a lobbyist from Sempra, and not the fact that he made comments?

"I am terribly disappointed by the situation surrounding Assemblyman Duvall's comments," said Assembly GOP Leader Sam Blakeslee of San Luis Obispo. " The statements he made were inappropriate and unacceptable."

I mean if you are going to go on the record and make a comment, at least comment about the right thing. I'm sure this doesn't mean he supports banging a lobbyist, but it's an odd thing to say.

By the way - who was he talking to? Wasn't he exposing the fact that he was guilty of an ethics violation? Didn't the other person have a responsibility to turn him in?

I knew nothing about this story until just now, so here's my gut reaction.

I think you can only comment on what he got caught doing, and all he got caught doing was talking. It hasn't been confirmed that they're lobbyists [EDIT: Several blogs seem to think they know who both women are, and they ARE both lobbyists - they also look eerily similar - go find your own links ;-) ] - and with the resignation, who knows if there'll be any traction to follow up and figure it out.

MY question is, if this was videotaped back in July, why did it not air until yesterday? I guess it's only interesting when you find out one or both of the women he's talking about might be a lobbyist? More likely, the "source" didn't feel like taking it to the media until now, for whatever reason. I wonder if there are any other tapes out there... I wonder if any other Assemblymen are wondering that as well!

I'm sure it'll be out on some blog soon, if it isn't already. You have to think whoever that pixelated person is, they're the prime suspect to be the source.

I don't have time to research but doesn't the CA Assembly have a recess in August?

This is great stuff here.

"I want to make it clear that my decision to resign is in no way an admission that I had an affair or affairs," Duvall, a 54-year-old family-values Republican from Orange County, said in a statement posted on his website.

"My offense was engaging in inappropriate storytelling and I regret my language and choice of words. The resulting media coverage was proving to be an unneeded distraction to my colleagues and I resigned in the hope that my decision would allow them to return to the business of the state," he said.

Roughly translated -

I'm a liar. But I'm telling you the truth right now - I was lying then. You can believe me.

Mr. Miller may have to explain why he didn't really hear what he was saying. I'm pretty sure he is supposed to report ethics violations.
